The service was amazing from start to finish. The staff were very friendly, professional, and helpful. The quality of the work was excellent, pricing was affordable, and everything was done on time. I’m very happy and will definitely be back again soon.

ALTER IT HAWTHORN. Dropped in 2 pairs of trousers to be shortened. Important to note that 1 pr was washed in fragrance free laundry liquid and the 2nd pair were brand new. When collected BOTH pairs absolutely STANK of god knows what. i wondered why i was coughing and wheezing later on - was the trousers! ALSO charged $1.05 additional eftpos fee on a $70 purchase.

Alter It Fountain Gate took a pair of trousers to be let out and a dress to alter they said 5 days, they called on the day to pick up and said it wasn't ready if I can collect the next day. I needed the trousers by midday as we were flying out to NZ for a wedding and need them I also needed the dress but knew it wouldn't be ready so I agreed to… Read more

collecting the trousers at lunchtime that day and picking up the dress in 2 weeks. 2 Weeks later I went to collect my dress and it still wasn't done was told blah blah went on holidays. That is not my problem 3 weeks you had to alter my dress and nothing was done such unreliable and terrible service. Took my dress back and received a refund with no apology. As I was waiting to pick up my dress another lady mentioned how her dress wasn't ready and received the same treatment I had. My first and last time at Alter It Fountain Gate!! How you are still in business is a mystery.

ENTER THIS BUSINESS AT YOUR OWN RISK.THEY ARE COMPLETELY DISHONEST!I placed 2 evening dresses at ALTER IT RUNAWAY BAY SHOPPING CENTRE for dry cleaning on the 16th February this year. They have apparently disappeared into thin air.I am a reasonable person I understand that things happen and mistakes are made, had they been honest ,told me what… Read more

happened given me the laundering money plus compensation for the dresses that would be the end of it.Instead they have taken multiple photos of my receipt, say they are going to phone people and then get back to me.Only you never receive that phone call.It has been weeks of no contact from the business, ,no offer of my money back or compensation for the dresses. I have been at the store on multiple occasions at opening time of 9am and they are never there ,30mins later they are still not there. When I do manage to get to the store and someone is there, they just do the same thing over and over again. That is take a photo of the receipt say they are waiting for someone to get back to them or they are going to phone someone and then they will get back to me, ONLY I NEVER RECEIVE A PHONE CALL..So use this company at your own risk, there has been no service at all from this business, can’t even give them 1 star but you have to give at least one star for the review to go through.

Brilliant repair job of 3/4 denim shorts – Old pair of denim 3/4 shorts with worn out hole in bum area. Brilliant repair job with combination of patch and darning perfectly matching colour of the shorts. New life for an old pair of shorts.

Avoid if You Value Your Clothes and Money! – I spent around $500 on alterations, and out of 10 items, only three were done satisfactorily. The communication was awful, and the high prices didn't match the poor quality of service provided. Our first visit was a disaster: my husband and I were told our alterations would be ready on a specific day, but when we arrived, they weren't. We had to… Read more

return two days later to collect them.

They claim to offer free alterations if you're dissatisfied, but it's never the same person working on your clothes. This inconsistency led me to pay again on my second visit. They ruined three pairs of jeans, including two brand new ones. When they offered to fix the mistakes for free, the alterations only made things worse. The work looked like it was done by an inexperienced apprentice.

I expressed my dissatisfaction to the staff, and while they seemed apologetic and offered another fix, I decided to take my jeans elsewhere. It's clear this business lacks skilled personnel and any quality control. There seems to be no manager overseeing the work, which raises concerns about the working conditions of the employees.

Refunds were never offered. If you want to save money and care about your clothes, stay away from this place!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND NO CUSTOMER SERVICE ATA LL - AVOID!! – This place is pathetic. It is run by Asians and the old woman there -who must be the "boss"- speaks no English and it is very hard to understand what messsage she tried to convey. On top of things she has a total lack of customer care and/or service. Her fees are very high for simple jobs. Finally, she refused to take my request to cover two… Read more

Terrible business. Avoid at all costs – Long story short: this crappy company destroyed a very expensive pair of leather motorcycle gloves and refused to provide a refund on just the labor. // Dropped off an expensive pair of gloves. Was told that they would take 2 days to repair. A week later, after having received no word about the gloves, I drop by to see if they are ready. … Read more

Immediately, the surly woman behind the counter asks for some sort of ticket. They didn’t give me a ticket at drop off. She then angrily says that she can search for my gloves by searching my phone number in their system. She eventually finds the gloves and drops them in front of me. I examine the gloves to find that it doesn’t appear that any repairs have been carried out - aside from a shockingly shoddy bit of velcro that has been haphazardly GLUED over the old velcro.

I tell the surly woman I am not happy and will not be returning with any further business.

As I am walking away, I notice that they have, in fact, stitched a replacement bit of velcro to the WRONG PART OF THE GLOVES. Moreover, they only used the hooks side of the velcro, and now they cannot be worn.

I immediately return to shop to inform them that they have ruined my gloves, and that I would like my money back.

The surly woman becomes even more unpleasant, and proceeds to insist that I give her back the gloves so that she can fix them - as if I was going to trust her business again.

When I tell her that I just want my money back, she spends ages one the phone to the owner who eventually refuses any refund.

2 days later, I get a call from the owner (who is apparently monitoring their poor Google reviews) to insist that she didn’t, in fact, destroy my gloves, and is still insistent that she doesn’t owe me a refund.

The whole business gave off a strong “avoiding tax” vibe.

Avoid at all costs.

Faulty zipper – Took some pants to Alter-It The Glen to have a zipper replaced. Woman charged cash and refused to provide any paperwork. Naively, I proceeded. The new zipper broke 2 weeks later. Returned to the store and was told they didn't remember repairing my pants only weeks earlier. Refused to provide refund or free repair. Contacted Peter Frayman who… Read more

advised that he was no longer the franchisor and that he would forward my details to the new owner. I also emailed head office. Waited 2wks, no reply. Avoid, not worth the hassle.

I don’t know which was more jaw-dropping, the botched job or the rudeness! – I visited Alter-It Hawthorn to take in a pair of jeans after losing weight. My jeans are now completely ruined—incredibly disappointed with this outcome. Not only are the pockets absurdly close together, the belt loop is shredded and there are pulls in the fabric where pins pierced and tore fibres. I called Alter-It Hawthorn directly to spare the… Read more

negative online review, and to ask if anything could be done, but after the unbelievably sarcastic, defensive and accusatory response I received, I have no choice but to comment in a public forum. This was unsettling as my tone (initially) was polite and simply asking if anything could be done to rescue the jeans—I had to ask her at one point to please refrain from being so defensive. Also note, I hardly ever leave reviews, and feel compelled to, given the experience I just had. The woman said, “I told you the pockets would be too close together, you saw how it would look in the mirror, etc. etc.” and before she tries this defence in response online, please know that I have ZERO expertise in alterations, sewing, etc. An “expert” should explain, with authority, what WILL happen, provide alternatives and/or recommend against the alteration. This woman casually, lightly mused that the pockets “could” wind up too close together, but when she kept on pinning, I assumed that meant she decided the distance of the pockets would be fine. I trusted that. I also don’t have the expertise to imagine what a pair of jeans will look like when they are stuck full of pins. Additionally, at no point did she mention that I would lose the original top-stitched seam, which definitely would have given me pause (especially now that it disappears then reappears weirdly in the crotch—like a permanent wedgie). She also told me that “no one has ever had a problem with my work” and that I was the first, which clearly isn’t true based on the negative reviews I just read on this very forum and on Google. Furthermore, she told me nothing could be done to save them and no money could be refunded because “they did the job they said they were going to do” and continued on to say, “I know it sounds harsh, but it’s your problem.” I was so furious and shocked frankly that I ended the call with profanity. Anyway, the photos are below—you judge for yourself if you think they look “fine”. I refuse to be gaslit into believing that they are. *Note, the first two photos are the before and after. I showed the comparison to a group of people yesterday and every single one of them burst out laughing (expletives from some). I suppose the consolation is that the $90 I paid for this botch job went towards brightening their night with a laugh!

Coat damage – I was very dissapointed today. Last week I dropped off a Forever New coat for dry cleaning at the Glen Waverley branch and today I picked it up and it was damiged. It had a stain. It looks like the material was rubbed and that material can't be rubbed and cannot be fixed now. I got the refund. However the point is that they said they do… Read more

professional dry cleaning which is no true. I had to by a new coat today because I have an important ceremony on Monday. If they damaged a garment they had to pay for the cost of it.

Fantastic repair job – We are on vacation so don't have many clothes along. They repaired a pocket that was torn. It was so expertly sewn I was hard pressed to find where they had done the work. I am a seamstress and am extremely impressed. And they were very accommodating with getting them repaired quickly. Many thanks.

Bad service and overpriced – I came in at the Camberwell branch to shorten a shirt dress and to cut excess material that was pinned before I left. Cost was not cheap close to $300 which is more than the dress itself. I came back to pick up to find that they have removed the pockets which are features of the dress that I loved. I was apparently told of this which I would have… Read more

remembered and would have said ‘No’ to outright. No phone call even to confirm as you would think it odd. Apparently it was going to cost me much more if I left the pocket?!?!? They could have removed elsewhere which was pinned behind the dress and not the side. Very disappointed and I’m sure I will be told that I ‘misheard’ just like the other reviews that left a very disatisfied message. They didn’t even offer to rectify the error. To put salt in the wound, they handed me the material with the pocket that was removed. I suppose they wanted me to go elsewhere to fix their mistake. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place and save yourself the heartache.

Lost my bridesmaid dress – 0 stars!! **be warned!!** the staff at this store lost a bridesmaid dress for my wedding and claimed no responsibility for it - no refund, no compensation, even after centre security were called to help mediate with the extremely rude owner, who refused to check any cameras or go over any of his records when provided all the transaction details! 2… Read more

bridesmaid dresses were dropped off pre-covid, 2 were paid for to be altered, but only 1 dress was given back when collected! We now have 4 weeks to pay for a new dress before the rescheduled wedding date and have filed a consumer affairs claim against this fraudulent business & owner! Disgusting customer service and no shame or compassion, a cold, cold person!

Always Obliging – Needing a trouser alteration done this morning - admittedly, a somewhat unreasonable request - the staff at "Alter It" (Fountain Gate) proved to be most accommodating and within the hour it was done perfectly. I have used this service on a number of times in the past and on each occasion the ladies have been most helpful and courteous. I can highly recommend this alteration service.
