After dealing with American Express and my card declined i simply said thanks and moved on and got a credit card elsewhere. process, they input my monthly expenses as $40,000 a month.... being $480,000 a year for household expenses instead of $4,000 a month, and the card was declined. I had a line of credit with my Bank for my business with a limit of $90,000, and it was $20,000 owing and the required payment was zero but I gave her a figure based on principle and interest, and the team member, kept saying that's not a loan and would ask me if I had debts and I'd say I've a $90,000 line of credit. According to Google and my time as loans officer in a Bank a line of Credit is a loan.
I initially submitted my application on 25 June. I received no feedback until 2 July, and only after I followed up by responding to your email. website and email correspondence indicated that applications would receive a response within 5–10 days, I submitted a second application through the ACEM website. Today I received an email advising that this duplicate application had been cancelled. I then called to ask whether that application could instead be processed, but I was informed that this was not possible.
During the call, the representative also stated that it is not your responsibility to contact applicants if further documentation is required. I asked how I was supposed to know that additional information was needed if I was not informed. He further advised that your turnaround time is up to 40 days, despite your website stating a response time of 5–10 days.
After nearly a month of waiting, all I wanted to confirm during today's call was whether I would still qualify for the ACEM benefits. Unfortunately, the experience I have had with your customer service has been both disappointing and unprofessional. The lack of communication, the inconsistent information provided, and the dismissive manner in which my concerns were handled have left me with little confidence in continuing my application.
Customer service lady named L.D…Y was passive aggressive during the entire call. She started teaching me company policy whereas I could clearly see issues on their side. And the usual AMEX pasting on people’s face, that we are waving fees as GESTURE OF GOOD WILL. They seem to love caps and passive aggression instead of accepting their own… Read more

Additionally seeing that recently small business don’t accept them anymore, I highly recommend against having an AMEX card.

As a long-term customer with multiple accounts, I believe American Express has failed in its duty of care and its obligations under the Banking Code of Practice to provide clear and transparent disclosure regarding the loss of financial benefits. Had I been properly informed, I would have utilised the credit prior to closing the account, spoke to [Name Removed] at American Express and didn't attempt to resolve the issue which made it more frustrating. I am requesting a resolution in the form of: A statement credit of $200 to my remaining active Amex account; or A bank transfer of the equivalent value. Please note that if this matter is not resolved to my satisfaction within 30 days, I intend to escalate this dispute to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). I am aware that AFCA is a free service for consumers and that American Express will incur a case fee regardless of the outcome. I look forward to your prompt response. Regards, hope this helps ,if anyone as simular issues.

BAD BEHAVIOR & DECEPTION – Trick interest charges on payments using their system. Reversed the charge "as a good will". Unbelivable what companies get away with. You still charge interest beacuse the money did not arrive by the due date which is clearly out of my control… Read more

Velocity Scam – Offered bonus points with Velocity to sign up to a business card, from just having a personal card. It is a Trap - for late and interest fees – I am with American express for over 10 years and I have been making the payment ontime. Recently this year, I noticed their system error with failed payment even though the pop up message says "payment already processing, it will take up to 72hours to reflect onine". I informed the American express the next day as the payments didn't go through.… Read more
The customer service insisted that I need to pay the late and interest fees even though it is their fault. It happened more than twice this year , and of course they only offer 1 off waiver. It is bizzar how American express treat their customers. I suspected this is their system trap for customers to pay late and interest fees. I have reported the evidence to ACCC.
Amex Stone Age communication – Raise complaint with American Express? You need a written letter - yes a physical letter with pen and paper. But sorry, I use Fax machine only. Congrats to those who still collect Stamps!

American Express engage in discriminatory practices disguised as lending criteria despite being proven otherwise. Any complaints to the company are ignored. Just another banking behemoth that puts profit-making well over and above customer service.
Follow-up · • How were complaints ignored? Completely ignored until I lodged a complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. credit card limit and I have at least paid the minimum payment. Even my Green card has now had a limit imposed on it, having always paid what is due monthly. The interest rate has risen to 23.99% on any outstanding credit card debt, which is outrageous. They try to encourage you spending with their rewards, spend local and cash back offers and then penalize you if you do. They try you get you to buy their insurance which they won't let you pay for with your card if you are a day late with your card repayment. My latest piece of correspondence from them, Titled "Helping You Pay off Your Balance' informs me of a timeline to which I must abide; it is 18 months; to pay off my card as I have been paying it off too slowly by paying at least their minimum payment. This piece of correspondence informs me of the potential of having a debt agency appear at my door. Alternatively, I could change my card to a card with an annual fee of $1450. I could go on and on regarding the changed culture of this organization. I admit I do have a small debt; however, my focus will now become removing the debt and closing the account. All of this only makes me feel that the Australian/NZ Amex CEO is trying to destroy Amex Australia, or is this Just part of the 'Making America Great Again' agenda?

I have been using the American Express Platinum Business Card for several years. While the benefits such as airport lounge access and airline points are great, they are not what truly make this card exceptional. During a recent trip to Bali, my wife had a serious accident. I contacted American Express, as our card included travel insurance, and I… Read more
was genuinely amazed by their professionalism and compassion. The team immediately took control of the situation, guiding us through the complex and often confusing Balinese healthcare system. Their medical team became involved and strongly advised against an expensive spinal surgery that a major hospital in Bali was pushing for — advice that turned out to be absolutely correct. Once we returned to Australia, Canberra Hospital confirmed that no surgery was necessary, and my wife is now walking again.
Once the insurance claim was approved, American Express covered all hospital expenses and even arranged an air ambulance to fly my wife from Bali to Canberra. It was an incredible experience, and their support went far beyond what I ever expected from a credit card provider.
I cannot recommend this card highly enough — it truly pays for itself many times over.
The Best service and Credit card ever, always taking care of customers with quick service, the customer service very friendly and quick process if something bad happens like scammers. Really proud to have American express Card
Wish other companies customer care was as helpful – AmEx is the only credit card I don't constantly cycle on/off, they're the easiest bank to deal with if there's disputes and response times are far better then some of the other major banks. After venting my frustrations of another bank I'm once again on a 30+ minute hold for, I wish more were as efficient as AmEx

(apparently being with Amex for 37 years meant I could get this deal). I was attracted to this as I sometimes fly from Sydney to Perth and it seemed this would represent good value. So I paid for the upgrade; once I received the various links I checked on the flights available only to find Sydney to Perth and back was NOT available. Perth to Sydney and back was, which I found strange as the distance is the same. So now I've had to go through pain of cancelling and getting a totally new card! I they trying to get new customers or lose existing ones, what a terrible experience!
False advertising and very poor communication. The company advertised their credit card for long term visa holders. worst customer service ever, answers the phone promptly which is good, asks you to send through the paperwork, yep done, no worries, then because i have scanned the 10 amex cards that we have in one pdf, instead of individual pdf's, they can't process them like that, has to be one pdf per card, are they living in the 80's. This took me 4 months, all i wanted to do was get them to debit my bank account automatically for the payment each month.

No more dealing with AEA and I have also considered filing a complaint. Note that they don't even put down the contact email or number of the Customer Relations Manager who is dealing with customer complaints. That probably explains why (too many complaints to cope with).
American Express have the absolute worst customer service, clueless agents and deliberately play it dumb to try to extract costs from you. Absolute garbage organization, their offers are rubbish only good for churn and burn.
Extremely disappointed with the way my issue has been handled. The worst service! and that this document it was not enough prove, they wanted me to get it certified!!! So, besides we have to answer their calls, do the application that takes time, gather all the information they need and now... I have to leave my Job just to get certified for them? No! The passport is the most important document we have and I send them all the identification they asked. But no, nothing. I withdraw the other application so they stop calling me until I could do what they suggested, the said the Australian ID would work for the application, which I took the time to do it and now, is not valid either! I feel like I've been discriminated because of my passport only. I mentioned this to the caller and he went into defensive mode and said, and I quote: "you think what you want to think" and started being passive aggressive after that!
Do not apply for credit cards through Amex (American Express). You apply, they take your fees upfront, then reduce limits and restrict access immediately after. No communication, No explanation!!! This company should be teportrd to Consumer Protection for unfair practices causing financial harm and no benefit.
will say and do anything to deceive you into joining - none of the benefits are true. They are only contactable when i told them i would leave due to them not being truthful
They are really not educated and not kind. Dont know what to do. Duplicated payment, no consistent instruction. Bad customer service. Bad app and online system. Not clear instructuon. So many things to improve.
Pathetic! I've been with them for years, always paying the balance in full every month. Due to being away I missed last month's payment of $30 (such a huge amount!), and today I received a letter threatening legal action if I didn't pay by a certain date! Unbelievable!

making it unnecessarily expensive to finish paying it off.
I contacted Amex multiple times asking for any goodwill or retention support (temporary interest relief, a one-off interest credit, anything) to help close out the balance. I was clear I was not asking for hardship, not asking to pause or close the account, and not trying to avoid paying.
The response? Nothing. No flexibility. No recognition of repayment history. No value placed on loyalty. The only “options” offered were hardship arrangements that impact your credit file or account closure — completely inappropriate for someone who has nearly paid the balance off.
At this point, it’s clear American Express is happy to bleed customers with high interest and offers zero support unless you’re in full financial crisis. If you’re doing the right thing and paying your debt down, don’t expect any help.
Premium branding, premium fees — but no premium customer care when it actually matters.
I’m now actively moving my business elsewhere.
The service is not for a platinum card the banking system very poor I’ve been client for over 3 years and was just a waste of time with those guys
Amex is not reliable, they charged more fees with the other credit card, the customer service is really bad. It is not recommended to go with Amex. I tried to call the customer service and they are not helpful, they are very rude.
Two weeks of nonstop nonsense from a call center in India trying to get approved for an Amex in Australia after 25 years in the US with a Platinum card. I gave up and cancelled my application
American Express has become, without question, the most unnecessarily difficult, inconsistent, and obstructive financial service I’ve ever dealt with. exceed, proving their own assessment makes no sense. Their internal departments don’t seem to communicate, their explanations contradict reality, and their “reviews” appear to be nothing more than box-ticking exercises completely detached from the customer’s actual profile. Trying to resolve anything with them is a nightmare. Critical emails go unanswered. The instructions they give are often incorrect or incomplete. Their customer service promises follow-ups that never arrive. And when you finally do get a response, it’s usually a generic cut-and-paste template that fails to address the actual issue. They also provide incorrect information—such as claiming my bank supports features that it objectively does not—and then base decisions on that wrong information. It’s astonishing for a company that markets itself as “premium” to rely on inaccurate assumptions while ignoring the documents, facts, and account behaviour placed directly in front of them. Their processes are slow, rigid, and painfully outdated for a company of their supposed calibre. Customers are left dealing with unnecessary obstacles, poor communication, and a credit limit system that resembles guesswork more than responsible lending. American Express markets itself as a top-tier service provider, but the reality is the complete opposite. The disorganisation, dismissiveness, and lack of accountability are staggering. Without exaggeration, Amex has caused more operational disruption than any bank or financial service I’ve used in over a decade. If you are a business relying on consistent limits, accurate assessments, or timely support, look elsewhere. American Express will absolutely fail you when it matters most.
Amex is not a problem until they are a problem and then it is a big problem. Typical problems 1) They can suspend your card and "request" to see 2 months of bank statements for every account that you use to pay money off your card.....that means they see all of your financial interactions for 2 months. If you don't give it to them or if they… Read more
don't like what they see then they will cancel your card. They are unable and unwilling to explain why they want that information.... they give you an explanation but that explanation is carefully worded to disguise the real concern they have. They won't tell you that reason due to "commercial secrets". So they demand to know everything about your finances but won't tell you why.
2) if someone pays money to your card they can cancel your card. I have not had this experience but when I asked about it they gave me the run around so I am fuzzy on this detail
3) If you refer a friend for the bonus points then you do business with that friend (they call it a "close association") then they can cancel your card.
4) They don't like it when you get close to your limit and so in order to keep using the card (for points) you pay off a bit, spend a bit, pay off a bit, spend a bit etc etc.
So if you are the sort of person who uses the card through the month then once a month you pay off the balance in full then you should have no problems but if you ever think they you are free to use the card in any lawful way that you think then you need to be aware that if they think differently then they can cancel your card.
