I have paid for 6 months with ancestry.com.au thinking this included a DNA kit which is what I want. Do I unsubscribe or can money be Transferred over to a kit instead?

The kit and subscription are unfortunately separate from each other. You can buy the kit separately online for about $99-150 (Ancestry.com only), it is sent to Ireland (IRE) for testing so it may take a while to arrive.

You dont have to get a subscription to get the kit, the subscription is for Family research and other Genealogy stuff (not for the DNA test). To use or create a tree you can use Ancestry.com for free, buying a subscription gives you benefits and can find multiple records and collect more info than a non subscription can.

If you unsubscribe you should still get the kit (if its already been ordered) i think.

As far as I'm aware you cannot transfer the money your paying for your sub over to your DNA bill.

I am not a Ancestry DNA employee, but i am a user who has navigated the entire platform over a span of a year or a bit more (roughly).

Why why why
Why why why

Why does Ancestry keep changing my DNA. Results. The information on my background was provided by me and now they want me to pay to look at it. My great grandfather came from England. He was a white man. My grandfather was a mulatto. They keep ignoring those facts and want to only focus on the ancestors that came from Africa. They want to nickel and dime you to death and they always claim I have hints but those hints were provided by me. It’s a waste of time and money.

REPLY TO : Why why why. An explanation on why it happened. " only focus on the ancestors that came from Africa." I can relate to all of those problems, they have happened to me as well, but i have solutions below which may or may not fix it (75% - 85% chance your prblms will be fixed).

The reasons they may focus on your African DNA more than the White/English DNA (if thats the right origins) could be for many reasons as well:

No. 1 - Depending on how much of the region you inherit it may show that region more because you've inherited it more than others. No. 2 - Mixed origins (i am not as confident saying this is true compared to No.1), Mixed origins may be more appealing to the summary because of all of the different countries, my Family tree / Maternal Families DNA has multiple ethnicities on it as well and i think i had the same experience as you as well my Great Great Grandfather was Syrian and my other Great Great Grandfather was white/Irish, they wanted me to focus on Ireland a lot but not Syria, but in my case this may be because they is very little info about records in MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) countries, but maybe not. No. 3 - Unrelated / Irrelevant reasons to the above, maybe reason they do this is random, Customer service may be able to help you for further inquiries and info, call on: Australia: 1800 251 838: (toll-free) UK: 0800 404 9723 USA: 1-800-ANCESTRY (1-800-262-3787) China:+1-800-760-9599 NZ: 0800 442 100 Canada:1-800-760-9599

No. 4 - If you spend more time on a particular part of your tree, the platform may start to recommend it more, eg: you spend 5 hours on your EURO (Eng) side and 1 on your AFRO side it may start bringing up the England side more, if you have more African born people on your tree that may be the case, for the best experience spend equal time on both sides (in the end its up to you what you do on your tree not me).

Ancestry can change results due to many reasons:

1. The more in time we go the more the results improve, the labs in Ireland test all the specimen and calculate the results, they may calculate them or check them even after the results are released 2. More family members are having their DNA done, i am not to sure why this happens but I'm 100% this is a cause/ reason.

" I have hints but those hints were provided by me" The only reason i can think of is having multiple trees, if more info is on one of your trees and not on the other then the one with little info will start getting hints from related trees such as your own.

RESPONSE TO: "and now they want me to pay to look at it", don't worry the same happens to me and my family using the platform, what i think is happening is that they want you to upgrade your subscription to the best one, this sub plan can be ignored easily i think.

". It’s a waste of time and money."

Money - You can cancel your sub (nothing will be deleted) though you may have less hints and other stuff.

Time - You can permanently stop or temporally stop, your account should not delete unless permanently deleted by you, though people can see when your last active eg "over a year ago". I recommend not deleting your account because you will lose you DNA results i think, though deleteing a sub or tree is fine i guess, but up to you.

Hi, for those who said were waiting for the DNA results, were your resukts out now? How many months you have waited? Thanks

Thanks for your reply Tee. I dropped my sample in the red AU post box. It's nearly 3 months since I've posted it and Ancestry still has not received it. They are offering to send replacement kit. Is your sample received by Ancestry now? And can you track the sample since you paid $27 thru AU post?

I had to pay $27+ postage bag and fill the customs form cause i couldnt put it in the red box...i was told by the manager at Australia post. I have it tracked. It arrived in Ireland over 2 weeks ago. So many times it was a courier but it doesnt get received/as Australia post told me that there is a tax payable too pay in Ireland for it.They offered a new one, but it seems when you get a new one and the old one finally arrives ...its no good then.(and you have too wait again) When you ring them, (overseas call centre) they say you cant speak too a manager and the manager cant ring you back cause they cant make outbound calls. Was told by them it can take 50 days, but there are so many waiting months I told them yesterday it was getting tracked and after i spoke too them ...i got a email notification that there was a change to my details/ email and i didnt authorize them too do that. Honestly does my head in. I feel sorry for you and the kits arent cheap either I really hope your Dna turns up. Maybe contact your bank for a refund.

Hi tee. You can try raising your complaint in trust pilot au ancestry dna. They respond in there but not here in productreview. Next week I might ask for a replacement kit and see how it goes. Hope they will receive your sample in Ireland as you send it thru registered post.

Sorry but all i can say is good luck!! Unfortunately my experience with Ancestry.com tells me they are not reliable and are hit and miss with their results. Try another DNA provider

Not good. My cousin has done accurate research about our family’s heritage. I got my DNA estimate with my heritage and it was quite inaccurate in comparison to the research. Not recommended.

Hi,

I have received my DNA results but have have not been given my specific Y DNA haplogroup? Is that part of what is supplied? Do I get any information on subclades?

Any information appreciated. Michael Mackenzie

I loaded my ancestry dna results up to Genesis Gedmatch where you'll have access to so much more than the flimsy, and in my case, inaccurate ancestry results. My Heritage tested my ancestry kit and got a whole lot more than ancestry found. It takes a few days for gedmatch to load up all your 'matches' but you will be amazed at what can be found- there is a whole lot more there but I am a newbie, so still learning. You can play around with the chromosomes too.
