I purchased my Arlec PC800 more than a year ago, maybe two years, from Bunnings. I have just taken it out of the original packing and plugged it into a wall socket, which is switched on. After 6 hours, there is nothing on the screen. Because I let it sit unopened for so long, could the battery have become faulty without being charged?

battery was dead, so I opened it up with a drill and ripped out the battery. Just used a single rechargeable aaa attached externally with a couple of wires and it works fine.

It is complicated to set. There’s a very good video on the internet which explains how to set the controls. It might be the settings that need resetting. The model on the internet has a different name but it is the exact same model in every detail. Ours has worked for nearly a year so far with no issues.

Just google in arlec pc800 and there are very good videos on how to programme the timer. The videos are titled ‘Crest’ not ‘Arlec’ but it is the exact arlec pc800 model.

But this is what I wrote for myself to use the Count Down Function: Countdown function. 1 Procedure to turn on or off attached appliance after selected time A) Press “manual” to navigate through “OFF” - “Auto” - ‘’ON” till “Auto” shows up in the display B) Press “Down” to switch from time display to H M S [00:00 00] or entered CDT amount.) C) Press “Set” to display flashing words ‘Set ’ and “ON” or “Off” - Whilst here pushing either ‘Down’ or ‘Up’ will alternate CD ON or Off for you to decide what happens when countdown elapses. - Next. D) Press “Set” again to Increase /decrease amount under H,M,S with Up /Down buttons (press Set to move to next time unit). E) When amount in Second has the desired amount (most likely 00) Press “Set” again to complete countdown setting; and you are ready to use it. F) That is you Press CD to start the appliance up to the set count down. But remember you have to keep “Manual” selection on “Auto”. Else your appliance will be On or Off but not ‘CD’. (Pressing again CD will abort the countdown) * As long as you have power in the timer (inc. battery backup) your CD time will stay as set but you can alter this amount whenever you want following the same instructions. * From the “Clock” display pressing CD will get it flashing so you’ll know it’s activated. * Pressing Up or Down will alternate between Clock or CD display with the time decreasing. (But extra steps in any direction will get you into the 10 programmable settings not involved with CDT …So step back!) Count down will start and you’ll know because the display will show cd blinking. In “A” the same applies if OFF is the starting wanted but it must show “Auto” before setting the timer (B~G) Not too sure about the above but could not work it out to get it to work. Instead found out with a cdt already entered. I had to Press ‘Manual’ to get “auto’ to show. Press CD to get CD flashing and turning the appliance on. This also start the count down. Press “Down” will show the CD On and the count down progress. Press CD (at will now) to move from ON to OFF. But your CDT time get reset to original input. Pressing “UP” from previous will get you back to the Clock time.

HPM Timer cdt Use Start with “Up” circle with On Auto Off (On and Off will determine the CDT action) ON will have your appliance on.

Wish I could be more helpful but, after multiple attempts with a few different people I still could not get it to do what I wanted. A complicated system of programming the dam thing beat me!!!! In the end I got a cheap mechanical rotary dial one and it works fine.
