This Sensor On It's Own Is Good, The Rest Of The System, Not So Much
If this review is focused only on how this motion sensor works, then it would have a 5 Star rating. The detection range is about the same as everything else, the detection angle is about the same as everything else - it just does it's job without a problem.
Where it is let down is the rest of the infrastructure in the Arlec Grid Connect system. This sensor (in fact, all of the Grid Connect Sensors), need to connect to a Grid Connect Hub via bluetooth. This is a problem mostly because bluetooth has a pretty limited range. The end result is that...
Read more to have multiple temperature / motion / humidity sensors throughout your house, you would also need to have multiple hubs throughout your house. The cost and complexity would add up quite quickly. The only reason that I invested in the Grid Connect ecosystem is that they are the only smart lighting manufacturer that has a 4' fluorescent tube replacement. If Phillips Hue had them, I certainly would have gone for their product. The motion sensor is good, the rest of the system, not so muchPurchased in July 2020 at Bunnings Warehouse for $21.78.
Questions & Answers
I got the arlec grid connect motion sensor paired with the arlec grid connect hub and the smart hub is connected to my wifi network. I also got Deta grid connect smart fluoro tubes. All in my garage. I added 2 rules in the Grid connect app. 1 to turn on the tube when motion sensor sense motion. 1 to turn off the tube when motion sensor sense no motion with a delay of 2 minutes. But the sensor some times sensor motion some times not. and when it turns on the tube, it turns it off in a few seconds. sometimes it stay on longer. sometimes nothing happens even u wave hand 10cm from the sensor. what are the rule conditions and sequence I should use to make it work right? Thx
I've found a similar thing. I assume that you also have a condition that says the 'turn on' and 'turn off' rules only happen at night? Try removing that condition then re-test.
As for the sensor not ...
Read moredetecting you sometimes, I have also experienced this. I assume there is some sort of delay in the sensor, by this I mean that if it detects motion it won't detect any further motion for about 20 seconds. Try triggering it and then wait 30 seconds, then move again to ensure it triggers and wait a further 30 seconds. If it detects your movement every time (with a delay between movement) then that would confirm that there is a delay in the motion sensor itself.Thx Mate. I also suspected there could be a built-in delay as well. But today, it gone nuts and sent notifications for every single movement. Even 2 mins after I left the garage. So I thought there mu...
Read morest be a delay. I don't have day time condition in the rules. But I've just added in pre-condition to check only turns on the lights if they are currently in OFF status. And only turn off if they are in ON status. I'll test some more. But at this moment, I am considering using the door sensors instead and see if that's more accurate. Do u have any experience with those? Thx a million.OK I've replaced the motion sensor with a door contact sensor instead. and that works much better.
The motion sensor is just too fuzzy, not good for light triggering.
Returning that to the shop next....
Can the motion sensor activate other Grid Connect devices?
Ie can I use the motion sensor to active other lights
Yes, that is it's intention.
I have Grid Connect fluorescent tubes in my garage, as well as the Grid Connect motion sensor, and the Grid Connect hub. In the app, I have setup an IFFTT rule so that w...
Read morehen motion is detected, the lights turn on. When no motion is detected for 10 minutes, the lights are turned off by a separate rule. Thanks mate , great to hear. Can I ask is the hub necessary? Can the motion sensor operate independent of the hub?
Yes, the hub is the gateway between the sensors and the lights - it is absolutely required.
Bear in mind (as per my review) that the sensors connect to the hub via Bluetooth, then the hub connects t...
Read moreo the lights via Wi-Fi. This means that you will need your hub in the same room as your sensors. If you want multiple sensors in multiple rooms, you would also need multiple hubs.Get an answer from our members and Arlec representatives
