Pump bearings seals etc gone soon as warranty runs out, purchased a second hand one with new bearings etc, lasted 6 months. these pumps and all pool equipment is built to fail, to keep pool people busy in the off season, a complete rip off, looking at installing a Grunfos! Show details

Another failure – Inherited this pump when we purchased the house. Manufactured in 11/2016 but I have only recently replaced the bearing because it was extremely noisy. Now 3 months later it won’t start and pool shop think it is the PCB in the pump and told me I might as well replace it because it is too expensive to fix. Are pool pumps only supposed to last 6 years, I think not!! Not buying another Viron P320!! Show details

Energy efficient and quiet. Lasted 7 years then got noisy and have just had it rebuilt. It’s running great again – Our Astral Pool viron P320 pump has saved us at least $300-$400 a year in electricity costs. We’ve just had it rebuilt after it started getting noisy. No it’s running like new again. Aquamech Services in Brisbane rebuilt it for just over $500 and gave us 12 months warranty. Give them a call on 30677956 before buying a new pump unnecessarily. Show details

Good Unit but Savings Come in Exchange for Other Issues – There is nothing actually wrong with these pumps but the savings on electricity come with other issues - and they don't save as much as you might expect. Never had any mechanical issues with the P320. It always worked okay. However the savings against the price paid for one of these are not much. I reckon about $250 per year which, against the… Read more

cost of maintaining a pool, is not a great deal.

An issue with variable speed pumps is that they have to be run at low speeds to make significant electricity savings. The trade off is that the water in the pool does not circulate as readily as it would with a high speed AC pump. Consequently if the pool is not vacuumed or cleaned with a robotic pool cleaner on a regular basis sediment tends to collect on the bottom. When the P320 was swapped with the CTX280 the pool it was found that the pool stayed clean for a lot longer without vacuuming.

Another issue is that at high speeds these pumps are very quiet at low speeds but quite noisy at higher ones. At full speed they produce a tinnitus like sound which you can't ignore. Therefore, if the pump is run at a higher speed to ensure good water circulation the noise could be intrusive. They also have a two to five minute priming cycle when they start when they run at full speed which could disturb neighbors, especially if the pump is starting at night.

These pumps will save you a bit of money but the savings come at a cost, the main one being the high initial purchase price which kind of nullifies the power savings. You virtually can't give away the CTX 280 pumps now so you could buy three or four used ones for the price of one new P320 or equivalent. The real savings will come if you have solar which will probably mean you can run either of these pumps for next to nothing and get the thieving power supplier of your back for good. If the power bill was zero with both pumps I would take the high speed AC pump over the DC low speed one.

In a way, trying to cut the cost of maintaining your pool by buying a low speed pump is like driving around trying to save five bucks on a tank of petrol when you have paid 15k for a car. Basically if you are reduced to this sort of thing for a petty saving you can't afford the fuel so you perhaps should not have the car or pool and buy a bicycle and ride it to the public swimming pool instead.

Our warranty hasn’t yet expired – Our Viron XT P320 is still currently under warranty as it’s under 3 years old, but I am waiting for it to be fixed for the forth time, maybe I am just unlucky. May2018 pump delivered to my house ready for the new pool, very excited. But noticed the pump had been dropped before it was delivered and parts around the motor were broken. Once… Read more

installed the new parts were replaced. Around Aug2018 pump stopped working, computer died , computer replaced Dec2019 bearings we’re making a loud noise, replaced jan 2020 Dec2021 pump just stopped working not fixed as yet. Controller changed again , works well again

We are now considering purchasing a new backup pump , as I am sure in a few months we will be out of warranty and don’t have any confidence that it will make it passed that date.

Like I said very unlucky as we were sold the best pump available:)

But on the other hand the pump is fixed in a very timely manner

Manufacturers warranty period means squat – To all those people reporting this pump breaking right after the manufacturers warranty period expires...note - you have additional protections under the Australian Consumer Law which states that a product must last for a ‘reasonable’ length of time, and 3 years and 3 months is not reasonable for one of the most expensive pool pumps on the market.… Read more

I suggest you remind Astral of their responsibilities under consumer law, and if they are not receptive, speak to consumer affairs in your state (In Vic is is Consumer Affairs Victoria) and they can give you some advice on how and where to take it further. Hope this help.

Once again let down immediately after warranty expires – I bought a Viron P320 EVO pool pump for the princely sum of $1562 just under four years ago. The sales pitch at the time, as per the Astral website, was that it would "save thousands of dollars over its life in running costs and low speeds would mean a much longer lifespan". It would last forever I was told! As seems to be the case with other… Read more

items I have purchased with the same brand name, my pump completely died, just after the 3 year warranty expires. The brochures show savings over the first seven years! There was an expectation when I bought the pump that this pump would last way beyond this time. "Don't go for a cheaper one", I was told. "They just don't last outside the warranty period". SO I contact Astral and to my complete surprise, I get no answer. Very poor on all fronts. Never again!

High price, low quality pump that needed replacing after a short time – I am extremely disappointed in with this pump. After only a few years of buying this pump with a new pool it's completely packed up. Our pool gets very light use and the pump has had an easy life. The pump packed it in shortly after the warranty expired and I was told I needed to buy a whole new pump and VFD. After owning a few Astral products I… Read more

will never buy this brand ever again and will be recommending all my friends / colleagues to avoid it too.

Power efficient, but designed to fail at warranty expiry - mechanical seal failure caused rusting – I had this pump fitted by my local pool shop with the claim it will save 90% of the power costs, and for $1,400 installed I thought a good investment. My last pump was costing $3.40 per day to run for 9 hours, this pump costs about $0.40 to run for the same time on eco mode. All good so far, however, the manufacturer has done something very sneaky… Read more

and sinister, the mechanical seal that stops water entering the pump will fail 100% of the time at warranty expire - 3 years. It is good to know this because as soon as it fails water enters the pump and rusts out the main bearing, making it noisy and it will eventually seize. All is not lost, a really nice fellow made this YouTube that shows how to fix the pump bearings and replace the seal, total cost $60, better than pool shop selling you a new pump, don't you think? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA_BjqW6ds8&ab_channel=AstralPoolAustralia

Astralpool Viron p320 – Problem every year since new with motor repaired or replaced 4 times since new in 2016. Runs quiet for a very short while then screens all other times! Noise complaints! What you save in power you loose in purchase and yearly repair costs. Steer clear!

Also Died 2 and a bit months out of warranty – Not very good for a pool pump that retails for over $1000. Converted my pool all to Viron setup and has been nothing but problems. ( Cell and chlorinator controller also).

Died 2 months out of warrantee – Great pump while it worked, but unfortunately for me, two months out of warrantee and the bearings failed. Sounds like a jet plane taking off. My old Hayward pump lasted 12 years.

Good product but complex set up – Pump and chlorinator are good. But the setup done by pool shop was inadequately done. I wanted to change to pump priming speed (as it was too much for my pool clener) and the medium run speed but with inadequate manual instruction it seemed difficult. But luckily I found the instruction on you tube and hence was able to change the settings… Read more

finally. It was stressful first few days. And my pool guy was not much help either. Also must add that pool pump sound at lower speed is hard to hear!

Same with the standard chlorinator (without any sensor), the setup was incomplete after the pool guy initially installed it. Chlorinator install setup in the chlorinator menu was not done at all. The pump was running on priming speed all the time until I luckily checked a YouTube video on how to properly complete the set up. Again without proper manual instruction it seemed difficult at first.

Now that I have worked out its working , it seem like a great set up. And ability to change the pump speed as per your pool requirement is superb.

I think Astral pool person should be sent out to make the learning process easier and less stressful, especially when you are paying almost twice as similar less complicated products in the market.

Austral Pool Equipment – Austral - Viron P320 eVo Pool Pump, eQuilibrium Ai Mode for control of pH balance, chlorine and water flow. When deciding for a pool being built and what filtration system to complement it, I had a number of concerns as I have never owned a pool. So, after thoroughly researching and studying the filtration and chlorination systems on the… Read more

market I went with Astral Pool Systems and purchased the C400 filter with the eQuilibrium Ai Mode for control of pH balance, chlorine and water flow (Viron P320 eVo Pool Pump). Even thou it was an extravagant outlay we were ensured it was the “best automated system on the market” and was told “all you require is salt and acid”.

I would suggest that you never allow the pool builders to set up the Astral system as it is quite complex. On handover a qualified Astral technician should be there to assist you and go over this specialised product.

I am truly grateful to Roy (CEO of Austral) and his team of experts who assisted us tremendously in giving us the best experience of how their system worked and how to manage our pool competently.

There were only a few minor hiccups that occured, however Austral were very obliging and sent a technician out to rectify the problem.

I contacted the Astral Pools in regards to all the problems I am having with this system. I have to admit that the CEO contacted me personally. He is very accommodating and seems very passionate about his product, which I am very grateful.

In February this year, Astral technician (Christian) came out to rectify the issue of the pH probe and chlorination. Both the pH probe and Chlorinator were replaced by Christian, thanks to Roy the CEO of Astral, on Christians findings when calibrating the pH sensor found the unit was reading at 8.6 pH, well over the requirement of 7.5. Unfortunately the well known Pool Maintenance Franchise had made a mess of all our calibration and running systems and never picked up the issue with the chlorinator.

In regards to customer service these guys definitely look after you andknow their product.
