ASUS Travelair N WHD-A2

Works with many screens but wrong Instructions and crap support – I just bought the Asus Travelair 1TB hard drive to use with my PC and Apple laptops, phone and 2016 Sony 55" Bravia TV. To use it as a hard drive, turn it off and then attach it to your computer and copy the files onto it (that's the reason for 1 star). However, do not attempt to copy files with it turned on via wifi as it slows down to less than 50 k/s (minus a star). Setting it up on the Phone is OK to change the password and setting it up on an Apple Mac is fine (as long as you go to Network Preferences and connect to it 1st (every time) and then remember to go to Connect Server and find it (or make an alias for it). The instructions for a PC are totally WRONG as Windows 10 update 1903 onwards has prevented any files being accessed from shared devices so the instruction to use file://192.168.96.98 is wrong (minus another star). You cannot speak to an Asus Support staff member because this device does not warrant that luxury (minus another star). Instead you have to log on to their website and send them an email - good luck waiting for a reply that will offer the correct assistance - after 1 month and 3 feedback survey emails (that do not give the opportunity to write anything), I have received NO SUPPORT. So I have now sent emails to Asus in the UK, Taiwan and the USA, hoping someone in the world has the skills/knowledge to provide the correct instructions to connect the Travelair drive to a PC running Windows 10 (Update 1903) via wifi. On my Sony TV, I tried four different media/video TV Android apps before finding one (Nova) that played MP4 movies - only to find that the video will stop randomly (and show a black screen) due to the Sony TV losing wifi signal from the Asus Travelair drive (the Asus Travelair drive is next to the TV and both devices have no barriers to the wifi router)? No updates are available. Be careful resetting the Travelair drive as it locked up twice when I tried to change the password (I got "Communication Problem" or "Error" messages and a spinning wheel (of death)) when I tried to change the original (blank) password (minus another star). So it has taken me many hours trying to fix the problems before finally watching a video from it on the TV, Apple Macbook and my phone (with a few random stops (or loss of signal)). Playing videos on an Apple Mac were OK (sometimes it paused to buffer). So, I'm not impressed with much about it. My recommendation is NOT to buy this device (the review sites state the competition is better - but I bought mine locally due to COVID-19 shipping problems).
Excellent Product – Purchased this from MSY on 25/6/19 and up and running and streaming movies onto 4 devices. The Asus AIDrive app is perfect and works well with the hard drive. The app is easy to navigate. This is a wireless hard drive which can play any media file. I had a seagate wireless hard drive and was limited in what media it would play ie mkv files. This is a prefect companion for travels if you have a family that like to view films etc
