Exciting but expensive process - no financial return – My book was accepted imnediately and i was offered a contract once i indicated i was prepared to invest several thousand dollars even though there were chapters to add and a significant amount of content addition and structuring to do. I was unpleasantly surprised that the $5900 payment converted to $9000 AUD The contract includes 2 edits by their Editing Director which i dont think is enough for such a sizeable piece of writing. I paid a further $653 for a 3rd edit. I also made many additions and changes through the design phase and i didnt receive any feedback on them. There are a few contract add ons including an additional proof read before the book goes to publishing, an expensive marketing package and it costs several thousand to have your book made as an audio book. When my book was available live on amazon i promoted it every second day on 60+ facebook groups with thousands of members (around 2 million members in total each time) only to find out today (4 months after i had been provided the link by an Atmosphere Press staff member) that it was the wrong link and international customers werent able to purchase the book using that link That being said i enjoyed the writing, editing, creative and cathartic process and the staff i had contacf with were very nice. Before you sign a contract with Atmosphere Press i suggest you consider how much you can really afford to invest, any additional expenses throughout the process, what you expect to get out of it and what you can afford to lose.
