Automobility
1 review
My brother purchased an Automobility conversion of a Hyundai Staria which has now been completed. We've been using the converted Staria for a few months now. Our dealings with Automobility have been timely, friendly and professional with one exception which I will detail below. The build quality is excellent. Functionality is excellent and the work was completed ahead of schedule. We are very happy with our decision to go with Automobility.
My beef: It's almost insignificant and I didn't want it to feature in my review - but I want to have my say. I asked if they could transfer the existing (Automobility) docking station from the existing car to the new car. The answer was that the existing one was old and they wear out so better to fit a new one. I'm calling nonsense on this. The mechanism is similar to a car door latch, only (presumably) using a higher grade steel - and it gets less frequent use. There's no reason it why it wouldn't outlast the car. I get that unpacking a cardboard box is much easier than extracting one from a car that was installed 15 years ago - and that's a valid answer but when you dismiss me with nonsense it makes me wonder what else you've told me is trash.
Secondly as they were showing me a new docking station latch, (it looked identical to the one fitted to our old wheelie car). The pin entry point was a straight edged "V" which guided the pin from the chair into the locking mechanism. I pointed out that if the narrow end of the "V" was rounded, it would mean that you didn't have to place the chair with surgical precision for it to slot into place (which had been our experience with our existing docking station). The response was, "It'll only be a sharp edge the first few times you use it". That's definitely nonsense. The one in our car was 15 years old. It was as angular as the new one I was being shown. Also, I spent 10 minutes with an angle grinder rounding a few mm off the corners (and yes it did make a big difference). "Thanks for the feedback" would have been an appropriate response. Again the willingness to dismiss my concerns with nonsense angered me and made me wonder what else have I been told that's trash.
I know it's nit picking and it turns out to be insignificant but it made the months we waited an anxious period when it turns out needn't have been. The end product is excellent. I still wholeheartedly recommend Automobility. (review also posted on Google)
