Avanti Electric Salt and Pepper Mill Set

Won't grind rock salt or sea salt – The Avanti Electric Salt and Pepper Mill is great for peppercorns however I've had no success with either sea salt or rock salt. Despite the instructions on the box stating to fill with sea salt, no salt is dispensed regardless of the setting, ie, fine or course. With 6 batteries to operate the grinder it sounds as though its doing the job however not a single grain appears.
Disappointingly I'm unable to use the salt mill as was intended for grinding sea salt or Himalayan rock salt.
Not Recommended - Only work on the coarsest setting – Purchased the Avanti Electric Salt and Pepper Mills as an upgrade ... Out of the box they look OK. Filling with salt and pepper was straight forward with a large opening (much larger than our two other brands) From there is all goes downhill Two small fiddly catches are used to retain the battery and motor assembly inside the top part of the handle
Once the fiddly catches are carefully rotated the top should slide out
But it doesn't because the battery retainer is too large.
Without the weight of the batteries getting the top section out took much longer than it should
Put in the batteries and force the motor and battery pack back into the top part of the handle (alternatively throw out the battery retainer which is the cause of the problems)
Once again fight with the fiddly retainers (one fell off so had to pull out the battery pack to refit)
Then TRY to fit the top part to the bottom section - but if while pouring in the salt and pepper the grinder spindle has rotated then the top will not fit.
To make this more troublesome - once salt/pepper is inside the grinder the spindle cannot be easily rotated - so another fight using a pair of pliers to manually align the parts (I acknowledge that this should only occur on the first filling - because after that the salt/pepper remaining in the grinder will retain the spindle while it is being refilled)
Now press the button and a loud click click click is the only result
Found that by adjusting the setting to coarsest was the only way to get the motor to turn the grinder (this applied to both the pepper and salt)
Even on the coarsest setting they are still very noisy
