Bailey Dual Purpose Stepladder

Overrated and horribly overpriced – Bailey ladders appear to have the bulk of the market share with Bailey claiming to be the number one ladder brand. So initially, my core focus was on this brand. I was looking for a quality 1.8m Double Sided stepladder or, a dual purpose “lean safe” 6 Contractor ladder. Startled by the astronomical cost of Bailey ladders, I travelled to a few outlets and looked at all the brands available at Bunnings, Total Tools, Sydney Tools and Mitre 10. Most of the Bailey opposition ladders were cheaper - a lot cheaper. In fact, around 50% cheaper in some cases. Overall, I found the build quality of Bailey ladders did not match or justify the price. I also found inconsistencies across the range. In many respects, Bailey ladders were not much better than other brands costing considerably less. The Bailey ladder steps were poorly fitted and not flush with the upright structure - something that really surprised me as stepladders are a lot more robust and durable when the ladder steps are placed flush against the side walls of the vertical struts. I do concede that the Bailey ladder steps are double pop-riveted but this does not excuse the poor construction. See accompanying photographs. How Bailey can justify their exorbitant price tags is anyone’s guess. In my opinion, and from what I’ve seen, Bailey ladders are overrated and horribly overpriced. Especially when considering Bailey ladders are made in China - just like most other brands. Still prospecting.
Poor start - great finish - read the postscript – A complete waste of money and, IMHO, dangerous. It's only worth one star for the privilege of posting a review. We wanted a sturdy, safe ladder with wider steps for our middle aged feet, and a longer ladder allowing us extra room to hang on to something at the top, as we're not 20 any more! The ladder was only used a few times - maybe a dozen - before it failed. The left hand bolt which allows the front and back of the ladder to pivot if you are opening or extending it simply sheared off without warning. Neither of us are anywhere near the maximum load limit of 150kg, although, frankly, testing that might be ill advised. This ladder and it's fittings are simply not fit for purpose. I shudder to think that my daughter was several metres up that ladder recently, painting for me. The warranty is only 12 months long, so that was a complete waste of our valuable money. I'm unemployed and it really hurts to be taken for a ride by saving up to buy crap like this. Am left bitterly disappointed and unable to carry out home maintenance until I save up for a replacement.
Purchased in for $210.

I am extraordinarily impressed. This must surely be the best customer service I’ve ever received, and gives me a large measure of hope that there are still companies out there who care about the quality of their products and service. Simply awesome. I’m very grateful. Have altered rating to 4 stars for outstanding customer service.
