Baumr-AG BPX700 Post Hole Digger

We purchased this machine, keeping our expectations fairly low. For the price it wasn't bad, and it did help, but we didn't manage to complete what we needed with it. We had 5 holes needing to be dug to 1 metre. In Victorian clay, this machine struggled. We managed to get to around 600mm, but from there we manually dug. Even to the 600 point it was time consuming and physically taxing.
One thing I did find was the extra 'tip' that screws onto the ends of the auger attachments does not self-drill. which means the cutting blades aren't hitting the soil. Once I managed to get these tips back off, it was a lot better.
For us, with our soil, it was a two-person job. I don't regret the purchase, and do believe it gave us a pretty good start. It certainly has its limits, which is good to keep in mind.
Tried writing a review on the Edison's website (where I purchased this), but they didn't publish it! Might explain why there are so many 5 star reviews there.
Purchased in at Edisons for $379.
Thanks, Hana. Yes - our soil was definitely challenging, so I can see this being a great unit in better conditions.
Didn’t work – When we assembled it and tried to ignite, a rope was gone. This machine didn’t work a second. Also, nobody in Melbourne wants to service it. A seller sent a spare coil module. Unfortunately, it didn’t help. A seller was really responsive and willing to help. It’s just with no service available, when a fault is more complex, a customer might struggle to resolve the issue.
Hi Elena, We understand you mentioned encountering a missing rope and the machine not working. We wanted to inform you that we attempted to reach out to you to gather more information about the specific problem you were facing. This would have allowed us to provide a more accurate and helpful solution.
Unfortunately, we did not receive a response to our inquiry for a photo or video of the issue. This information would have been invaluable in assessing the situation and determining the best course of action.
If you are still experiencing difficulties with your post-hole digger, please do not hesitate to contact our customer support team at this link: external link
We are ready to assist you further and find a resolution that meets your needs.
Kind Regards, Jay
Not a trade tool but good for price – Brought to do 300 + tree holes in clay soil. Works well, starts well, also used the extension bit with 200mm auger to install fence post to 1200 depth.... have nothing bad to say based on the price point....
Hi, So glad that you are happy with your purchase! We try to make all our customers as happy as you and it's awesome to hear we have done that again.
Come back and shop again soon!
does the job well – Arrived on time, well packaged. Easy to assemble, and started easily. Have used it a few times, tends to struggle a bit with heavy soil/clay, revs seem a bit low for the centrifugal clutch, will check if any adjustment on carby to bring revs up a bit.
Purchased in for $269.
We’re glad to hear that you were happy with your purchase! Come back, any time!
The hard work is over – Being somewhat disabled, most manual labour in the garden or for DIY is off limits for me. Now I also like gardening to a small degree and wanted some fruit trees. The answer, a Bauer-AG Post Hole Digger. A 62cc 'handyman' rated post hole digger for home or light business work. Hence, no manual digging, no swinging a mattock. Ordered online, the parcel arrived within a week. I was quite impressed by that. That afternoon, my son and I decided it was time to assemble it.
Opening the box all parts were present and wrapped for protection. The manual is located online. They provide a sheet of paper to explain this.
So a few nuts and bolts later, the digger was ready. You attach the reduction drive and handles and the auger piece/s as needed. A quick note, the handles can be attached inside or outsides the body section. It is your choice.
A quick overview. The top provides the engine. To each side are the handles, one of which has the throttle. Down past the reduction gearbox you get the auger section. Basically a big drill. This is approx a 800mm long. There is an extension piece of approx 600mm. So you can get a bit short of a metre and a half deep. Some report it as 1800mm, but for my uses, the 1.5m, is more than enough.
A quick addition of some 25:1 2 stroke fuel. Quick note here, find a couple of bricks to sit the unit on while fuelling, as it will not stand on the protruding post.
Once fuelled, attach the auger, or auger and extension if you are going deep.
The unit started easily with a little choke. Make sure you pump the fuel bubble to get fuel into the system to start with.
The hole I needed was about 40cm deep. While not being too deep, I would struggle to dig it and be sore for days afterward.
The post hole digger started, me on one side, my son on the other, a few short squeezes on the throttle and the auger ripped into the ground, like it knew what it was doing. A quick check on depth, nope, need a little more, another short burst, hole dug. The Bauer-AG BPX700 Post Hole Digger can also be used as a 1 or 2 person tool.
Now this was to plant an Orange tree I had purchased. I can absolutely recommend a post hole digger for this purpose. Total hole digging time . . . about 1 minute!
I have a back fence to replace, plus a deck I want to build out the front, along with a few more fruit trees, so the Bauer-AG BPX700 Post Hole Digger will be earning it's keep. I also expect some friends to borrow it at times.
Looking at how easy it is to use, with basic handyman skills, maybe watch a YouTube video, I am sure any sensible adult could happily dig themselves all the holes they needed.
I don't expect I will wear this one out in my lifetime, the unit is very sturdily built. The auger itself is very strong. I live in a relatively rock free area, so would expect the Bauer-AG BPX700 to maybe struggle in heavily rocky ground. But for your average household, farm or similar, this is a great Post Hole Digger.
