Bernell Eyeport II Vision Training System
1 review
I have been using the Eyeport vision trainer for ~20 years and when my old one started to fail (seemed to be an electrical problem) I bought the newer version. The EyePort is about 1 m (~3 feet) long and has a series of red and blue lights which flash one at a time. You wear a set of glasses with red and blue lenses. There are 5 sequences of lights: horizontal, vertical, diagonal left/right and front/back (90 degrees to your nose). Each sequence lasts about 1.5 min with a ~60 s pause between sequences. As each sequence ends you remove your glasses, flip both arms in the reverse direction and put the glasses back on with the red/blue lenses now on the opposite eye. The constantly changing colours and lenses exercise your eyes better. The whole thing takes about 10 minutes once a day.
When using the EyePort the muscles in your eyes feel like they’ve just been exercised hard. The user manual recommends you do the eye training for 3 months (12 weeks). My distant vision was back to normal after about 6 weeks. Some of the research measured improvements after 3 weeks. However, Jacob Liberman (the inventor) estimated you'd get a measurable improvement in 10 days N.B. Jacob Lieberman is an optometrist with a PhD in vision training.
After training you notice that your sight has improved i.e. If you’re farsighted your near vision improves… or visa versa.
The EyePort is the only eye training device with any research demonstrating benefits… so you buy any alternative at your peril. I don’t doubt that some alternatives work… but also suspect that the EyePort works better than cheaper equipment.
The EyePort is the only device with videos online explaining how it works.
It’s well worth the price (trading $$$ for better eyesight is a no-brainer).… although it’s always been a struggle to use it regularly: It’s surprisingly hard to set aside ~10 minutes a day to do the training.
I’m 61 and still don’t have glasses.
I love my EyePort.
:-) P.S. I’ve always thought the EyePort could be significantly simplified and cost reduced to make it easier to use and cheaper to purchase. Instead it seems to have gone out of production once again.
Purchased in at Bernell for $565.
