Why? - I have Bodum Glasses with the white writing underneath. Manufacturers of White Goods put their Brand name on their Products, same with TV’s. Cars put their Brand Name on their vehicles etc!

I don’t mind the word bodum but very annoying seeing the two lines of text at the bottom of my coffee cup that I can now see because of the design of the cup. These lines of text take away from the whole experience of drinking from these cups.

The markings on the base of our double-wall glasses serve a few important purposes: they identify Bodum as the manufacturer, provide product information, and reference our design patent. Including this information also helps protect the originality of our glassware and prevents imitation products from entering the market.

We completely understand that you’d prefer a cleaner look. Unfortunately, the markings are fused into the glass during production, and removing them would require sanding or polishing, which could damage the integrity of the glass. For this reason, we don’t recommend attempting to remove them.

Wash in warm, soapy water before first use and dry thoroughly. For all subsequent uses, wash and dry by hand or pop in the dishwasher. My mug has moisture between the glass walls. How do I remove it and reseal the hole on the bottom?

I wouldn’t buy them again - they are very fragile & crack/break easily, the Seals leak & moisture gets in between the double glass. I have bought 3 different Styles (9 glasses - 2 with handles) in packs at Myers Works out expensive if they don’t last 1 year. I don’t have a Microwave or a Dishwasher….I enjoy drinking out of them but will go back to using ordinary Mugs…they last forever. !!

Sorry, can't help. I didn't have that issue - only fogginess between the glass layers, even though the silicon appears to be completely intact. The design does not work, so it's good to post reviews to warn others who are considering buying them.

I purchased a Bodum Double Wall Thermo Glass just last week. I put milk in it and somehow, after I finished my drink the milk has made its way into the double wall. I couldn't see any obvious hole so this is definitely a fault. These glasses have not been adequately tested.

BODUM glassware is made of tempered, borosilicate glass and then annealed post production, to release any stress and tension in the glass. We take great care to strengthen the glass for durability and everyday use, however glass, by its nature, is fragile and sometimes accidents can happen when glass suffers stresses and cracks. Our quality control team tests the glass under a variety of conditions during production, and then a 3rd party inspection is carried out on every shipment. It is difficult for our team to determine the exact reason the glass broke and where it developed a weakness, either through general use or during transit. No way I know how to fix this. Disappointing. We purchased another brand that doesn’t have this problem but they are no longer available on the Internet. They don’t have that plug that seems to be the problem

I was able to correct the problem. I added cool water to the glass and let it sit for a bit and fog disappeared. I wash by hand now.

I'm amazed they wouldn't just replace your glass. Pathetic customer service.

So simple to remove water between walls. First boil kettle then hold mug or glass over sink pour hot water into glass. Water will spray out because of expanding air between walls. Last of water can be wetting a tea bag string into the hole with a pin. Make sure end of string is in the puddle of water left inside glass. It’s slow, the last process, but very successful if you hold up and keep end of string in water. I’m now going to try a little silicone glue in the hole. Then carefully poke a tiny hole thru the dried silicone one day later. Failing this will try to purchase new silicone plugs. TonyR

I see. after reading the answer, I understand the user of Hydrophobic silicone vent. But, this reason has to be described in the manual clearly, please.

The silicon valve is meant to ensure the air pressure between the two layers of glass, but the design needs further work to get it to work without allowing condensation to form between the layers.

Hi Paul, not sure if this is getting to you too late, but I've been trying to get condensation out from one of mine all day... This is a little odd, maybe, but I think it's working. I turned on my coffee maker and placed the glass upside down on the warming tray that the carafe usually sits on, and just left it. The goal is to heat up the glass enough that the moisture inside turns to vapor and releases itself through the plug. After a few hours, I've been able to notice a pretty big difference. I'm pretty confident this is gonna work, but it'll take some time and patience.

Hi Kristin, many many thanks for this. Actually, before your response came in I had already decided to take the glass back to the vendor - by luck one week later received a box with two new glasses in it ! If it happens again I will try your suggestion first before chucking it in the microwave. Yes, I recently heated up a cold drink (in the Bodum) in the microwave and it was fine. That could be the fastest non-sensible solution I think. Aren't these glasses just magic. Thank you again.

That film should not stick to your glass, but it is possible that the glass reacted to the detergent, just like in the shower, you tried to put it a couple of hours with bleach? or a bit of warm vinegar is the only thing I believe, I can help you, that's how I keep the glasses in my shower without blemishes

I have never had any trouble with condensation. I wash them in the dishwasher, and (other than the one that broke the inside wall when stirring) I have not had any problems.

One of our double walled glasses shattered when a metal spoon was casually dropped into it. We've kept the rest and are more careful with their use these days. We are very happy with our Bodum glasses

I don't know what they 'guarantee', but I've poured boiling water from the kettle into mine to make a herbal tea before and it hasn't cracked. The site says "Dishwasher, microwave safe, and oven safe (up to 350°F/176°C)". I don't know what temp boiling water gets to. I personally would prob look at getting an exchange.

There is nothing stated on the information leaflet that comes with these glasses as to any guarantee/warranty at all.

Hi Foodie65, Thank you for your feedback. It sounds like the silicone plug at the base of your cup has let water in. The purpose of the plug is to let in air to equalise the air pressure between the two layers of glass when either hot or cold liquids are added.

Bodum, your design is faulty. Condensation on the inside of these double-wall cups is not a rare occurrence judging by the number of reviews citing this issue. You should be offering replacements to all affected customers, while going back to the drawing board on the design. I have bought Avanti double-wall coffee mugs without the silicon plug, and there is no problem.

I too have just encountered this condensation problem and this is the reason I am reading these posts,. As Bodum obviously read this thread and occasionally answer some questions but have still yet to have offered a solution after 8 years, my guess is there is no solution and I may as well throw this ugly glass out. After using them for a few years now this is the 1st time I have encountered this problem and have been careful to have only ever washed them by hand. I know they are fragile glasses and have broken a few , that's life.... they are nice glasses and cheap enough when they are easily found on special. I won't bother wasting any more time on this problem. ;)
