Bowlsome Braised Lamb

Bowlsome Braised Lamb – — 2026 UPDATE — Perhaps a year after writing my original review of this product (below), its quality dropped off a cliff. In the last half-dozen that I bought, the meat was 90% gristle, and basically inedible. For me personally, consistency of quality is a critical factor for any food product. So now I’ve re-rated it from 5 stars to 1, and will never buy it again.

Often I’d like to heat a pre-cooked meal, instead of cooking from scratch. But I’ve found that most such meals:
- Are too small. And I have a small appetite. So if something is too small for me, it’s probably way too small for anyone else.
- Have disgusting inedible meat. Here’s the con: they’ll position the meat in the packet so it looks good from the outside - but when you go to actually eat it, you’ll find that it’s mainly inedible gristle.
Happily, this product has neither of those two problems!
- Its net weight of 360 grams seems typical for such products. But there’s a layer of cooked rice across the bottom, that you can’t really see from outside the packet. For me, that rice adds just enough bulk to make it ok as a small main meal. Your milage may vary.
- The meat is partially shredded, not in large chunks, so it’s basically impossible to disguise inedible gristle. In all of these that I have had so far, the meat has been fine - tasty, and with no inedible gristle.
Where I purchase this product, it’s displayed at room temperature (or maybe slightly chilled), not frozen. I don’t know whether you could freeze it for later. Being unfrozen, it only takes “12-15 minutes” to reheat. I find the vegetables are sometimes a bit undercooked, so I use 14+ minutes, then add some butter and seasoning and let it stand for a moment.
In summary, I think this is an excellent product. It’s exactly what it says on the tin. And the meat is fine, as opposed to competitor products that brazenly con you with inedible gristle.
5 stars!
