Replaced battery! – The gel cell died a while ago, and is no longer available from supplier, however I have been able to buy a replacement battery from Batteryworld Marion, South Australia, which fits the machine and works perfectly. Now two months later and still as good as new. Maybe even better Show details

Don't Buy It – I bought this product a few years ago and didn't use it very much. It didn't charge and nothing could change it. I've looked it up but it seems the battery isn't made anymore so can't be fixed. It's a shame because I've found Breville to be pretty reliable.. but not this. Stay away from it because it has one life only. What a waste of money.  Show details

Was Fine Until It Stopped Charging – Mine worked fine for a approx. 6 months although I didn't use it that often, It went into storage for a few years, took it out and charged for 24+ hours however it just wont work!! All my other electronic devices that were kept in storage work just as well as they day they were purchased and I've had them for over a decade. Thank you to the… Read more

other reviewers for highlighting that this is a known problem.

My vac looks brand new so its a real shame it has to be tossed in the garbage as if its an old broken down piece of machinery.

I guess Breville products are cheap for a reason. I've had a Breville blender and a Breville stick mixer that have all died on me.

Disappointed purchas – This product worked very well at first but when the battery ceases to work no replacement is available so it will have to be thrown out no matter that it is not very old! I notice that it says that this product has been discontinued which is just as well as it was a waste of money. When i phoned Breville to find out about purchasing a… Read more

replacement battery they said the manufacturer was no longer in business. Surely a company such as Breville can find another battery supplier so that the appliance can still be used rather than thrown away.A most disappointing experience!

Dead and never chage – The vacuum died and never charged after 2 months. Very disappointing. Read behind the label: turn off the vacuum after use. I do not think every person will do it as the switch is easy to slide to turn on. Do not buy this one, a waste of time and money.  Show details

Did the job but now it's landfill – I only used this product a handful of times and always kept it on charge as recommended. The power was good, it worked fine but now, the battery won't hold its charge anymore and in fact, can't even be used at all. I called Breville to find out about a replacement battery and they have been discontinued. It's so disappointing that these products… Read more

don't last and then become filthy plastic landfill. Surely the better alternative would be to keep making the batteries available (or make them last longer!). This whole planned obsolescence concept is driving me crazy. Listen up, companies, you can make money from consumables such as batteries, stop making us buy brand new products again because even if we have to do that, there's no guarantee we'll buy your brand next time. Disappointed.

Dud, two times – My Breville hand held was always only meant to be used for little jobs but my first one failed after twelve months. Having been happy with Breville products in the past I took a chance that a second identical machine would be a better performer, but no the third time I went to use it, it was dead and could not be charged. Second Breville product into the bin without reasonable use.  Show details

Battery life terrible – We have owned our unit for approx 2 years and the battery has died. Called to obtain a replacement battery and to my disappointment was advised that the batteries are on back order and that they are $61 each i.e. might as well toss it in the bin as a new unit is just $28 more! I would have expected for it to have lasted longer.  Show details

Perfect for the little jobs – This is a great little handheld vac! Perfect for those little jobs, difficult to get into corners and edges, the car and lounge chairs. Having two cats hair gets in everywhere and this has been perfect to get into those little places the bigger vac can't get into. Don't expect it to do the job of a larger and more powerful machine as it is just… Read more

a handheld one.

I tried it once on a wet spot in the boot and it was fine, did the job nicely.

The only wish was that it came with replacement hepa filter.

Great appliance – This will be the third one of these we have purchased over many years. We have tried other units, but have come back to the Breville. We use it regularly, which helps with maintaining the ability to re-charge the battery. The Breville is a very handy little unit, especially for the price.

What a good and useful worker – Great machine -- in fact our second one as we took our old one up to our unit and it still performed well although getting tired after nearly 4 years of hard use in the house and sometimes the two cars if they just needed a "tickle". We didn't count on turning the unit power off for 9 weeks so unfortunately the old one died. So what will we… Read more

replace it with? Another BHV9 of course as soon as we can find one on "special". Can't understand those who spoke badly of the model as all we have had is good use from the BHV9 which replaced POOR PERFORMING "OTHER" BRANDS. -- Vic B-- Qld

Battery dead – Yup same problem. It worked fine for its purpose but I didn't use it much, maybe 3 or 4 times in the first year or so and then by the time I went to use it again it wouldn't charge and the warranty had run out. Just had to throw it out.

Cheap and Nasty.......Really Nasty – Hopeless. Had the unit for about 15 months and is as useless as a cardboard screwdriver. Suction went within a couple of months. Now it lasts (on full charge) for about a 10 second burst. I'd return it however its now out of warranty. I will never buy anything Breville again.

Send Me Your Units – All those who think this unit sucks badly, send them to me, I think they're OK when used for minor jobs. try using it like normal vac then you may encounter some irritable drawbacks.

Useless suck (p pun) – Got 2 of these 12 months ago and both don't work now because batteri is dead. Bad ju-ju to all comp. that make products that fail after 1 day out of warranty.

Useless. Don't buy – Have tried to use it several times. It's never managedt to pick up anything - not a crumb, not a bit of fluff, nothing.

Don't buy – My experience of this vacuum is almost identical to that of robbie55. I also have owned numerous Breville appliances (a kettle, a rice cooker, a slow cooker and an older handheld vac) and all had performed well. Unfortunately, this one has turned out to be a dud. The suction is lower than on the older model and very weak, and after about 2 years… Read more

Poor performer – I've owned a few Breville products in the past and although I would say none of them are exceptional they are generally great value and dependable solid products so when I saw this vac I thought it would be ideal for cleaning up the kids crumbs and spills around the dining table and in the car. Sadly the suction of this unit is so poor that it… Read more

is essentially useless. Despite putting the head directly over bread crumbs it would not pick them up and all I ended up doing is essentially sweeping them up with the unit picking them up by hand and sticking my fingers into the hole before it would suck them up. The crevice attachment was no better and in fact did not have tight seal so more of the suction was lost.

Emptying those crumbs was also difficult, its a bit difficult to describe but there are two chambers like a tube has been instered into the bottom of cup and the top of the cup is where items enter. The crumbs ended up between the cup walls and the tube and so were almost impossible to empty and after a futher 15mins trying I could still hear things shaking around in there. I suspect this is to avoid liquid getting into the filter but I'm not sure any real thought was given as to how to empty it.

Fortunately the store had a good return policy and it wasn't too hard to get my money back.

Extremely poor suction

Suction terrible – Suction is terrible and the main attachment cover falls off constantly. I have only used about a dozen times because if this and to top it off the battery is now useless. I live in a regional area and would of handed straight back if it wasn't so much hassle.

Shameful marketing – Suction is next to useless. OK for a few hairs in the bathroom. Battery hasn't lasted three years and a new battery is more expensive than a new vacuum cleaner. [censored word removed]??? This is a joke! Similar sealed lead acid batteries are readily available for about $30.00. Cannot recommend it at all. Battery fails (and they always will) - it is easy to change but unavailable except at a higher price than a completely new unit!!

Bad – Don't be sucked in (pardon the pun) thinking it's a great wet vac. It is quicker to use a cloth to mop up spills. If you use the vac you have to vaccuum, then take the vac apart to clean it and allow to dry. Easy to charge and use Heavy, battery life not very satisfactory, not worth using on wet spills

It sucks in more ways than one! – Received as a wedding present and have never been happy with it. It does vacuum but not overly well. I mainly use it to vacuum out the inside of my espresso machine maybe once every fortnight. It is hard to keep clean and once it gets dirty, using it will fill the area with a foul smell each and everytime you use it. The motor makes an… Read more

Ok - could be better! – An "OK" unit for the price. It didn't last very long (2 years) and the battery would only last a couple of minutes at the end. Pretty average suction also. Inexpensive Didn't last long, poor suction

Love it! – Great little handy vac. My best purchase in ages. Works really well at picking up little bits on the carpet and is my best friend in the bathroom for pickup up hair after I've blow dryed it all over the bathroom! Good strong suction. Breville recommended the battery be charged 24 hours before using. I wish it came in a neutral color rather than the purple.

No Volume specification – When comparing this product before purchase, I confused voltage with Water Air Flow. The product specifications failed to quantify Water Air Flow. On trying to use this product I found the suction too low to be of any use. I returned this product and will now look for a product with at least 1000 liters per minute water air flow. Inexpensive no suction so of limited use

Great Performance! – We love this little sucker. Use it for all small jobs around the house. It is worth buying this heavy duty model as the cheaper only last one year if you are lucky. It's five years old and still going strong but now the filter needs replacing. Hope I can find one soon. Strong suction and reliable. Easy to empty and clean. No complaints whatever.

Good – Very happy with the product. I bought it to pick up little bits and pieces like crumbs that i couldn't be bothered using the regular vacuum for. Works very well and sucks everything up! Easy to use and clean and change filters. Haven't used it to pick up any spills or anything yet but i'm confident it will do the job well. The crevice tool and… Read more

upholstery brush is very handy. This unit can be wall mounted as well. Portable, easy to use and empty out, good suction, dust doesn't fall back out Nothing in particular. Wish it was all white instead of purple but nothing against the performance itself.

Bad – I wouldn't buy another one of these. I have used other brands with more efficient filtering systems. The filter in this consists of a single layer paper and a thin plastic foam. Clogs very quickly. Long lasting battery. Filter clogs quickly. (needs emptying regularly) Heavy

Good – Very happy with this machine. Not the cheapest but good value for the price. Would recommend to anyone looking for a portable vac. Good suction particularly with the extension wand inserted. Fully charged batteries last long enough to maintain suction for longer jobs like vacuuming out the car. Nothing worth mentioning

Bad – A nicely designed product but not reliable.Small amounts of usage still require frequent emptying. Battery cost prohibits replacement(sound familiar?). It has a nice design and is easy to use. Only recently purchased & wont charge the battery. Have to empty it fairly often.

Bad – Initially I was satisfied with this product as it was convenient to vacuum small areas. The suction was good but after a couple of years, it seems to not vacuum even crumbs from the floor. cleaning in corners and edges. And the little brush is good if you're vacuuming tiled floors or even fabric upholstered sofas. Overall, I think for a product that does a good job for only 2 years, it is not worth the small investment! Handy for a quick cleanup Suction seems to have reduced after a couple of years
