Breville the Milk Jug Thermal
VerifiedMPN: BES0031 review
Does the job for consistent milk heating – Purchased this to achieve consistency of temperature when frothing milk for home cappuccino’s. Description. Jug has a capacity of around 400ml and there is a temperature strip (recessed so as to be flush with the jug surface) around the outside which functions in a similar fashion to aquarium thermometers that you may be familiar with. This is where the colour changes to green adjacent to the temperature within the jug. Breville has made the range from 55 to 75°C but there are also markings in Fahrenheit. Nb. The colours are a bit brighter in reality than indicated in the photo below.
Functionality Operation is simplicity itself. You froth and heat the milk until you reach the desired temperature (shown as a green rectangle). Job done. I have checked the temperature with another thermometer and it seems accurate enough for the purpose of heating milk. The jug body is made from stainless steel which seems to be of good quality (food standard without any sign of corrosion) while I hope the glue which sticks the thermometer strip to the outside is up to constant heating and cooling. So far, so good. It should be noted that this is marked as hand wash only unless you want to destroy the strip in your dishwasher. Have been using it for a number of months now without any issues. It’s only a few dollars more than a similar jug without the thermometer strip so why not?
What I liked… * Solid and quality feel * Does exactly what it says it would do * Reasonably priced
What I didn’t like so much… * Hand wash only (Only reason I deducted a star)
**UPDATE April 2023** Jug has now survived being in the dishwasher twice (full cycle) due to accidental loading. Happy to say it seems to have survived unscathed, however, I wouldn’t like to keep risking it.
Purchased in at Bing Lee Online store for $29.
