Our new expensive Caroma Contura II does not even flush away toilet paper! Our plumber, my handy husband and the Caroma service person have all failed to fix the problem. The service guy said he has been told the half flush is not for use with toilet paper, to which I said "Well that means half the population cannot use the half flush and that is… Read more

absurd". Even the full flush fails to get rid of paper half the time, and that also means faeces! Surely something is seriously wrong with this design and I want my money back!

Impossible to clean – This toilet was in my unit when I rented. It is supposedly dual flush, but it takes at least 3 flushes every time and even then isn’t very clean. My cleaning lady hates it — says there are several in my building and they are all terrible and are impossible to clean. When flushing, the water does not swirl around, but goes straight down so doesn’t… Read more

even try to clean. There is also a sort of shelf, where solids can sit instead of falling to the bottom. I am planning to buy a new toilet as soon as I can get permission from my building. This is a piece of junk.

Caroma rubbish – Totally useless. Hold the half flush button down until it completely empties of water or it will continuously run water down the drain if you quickly flush. What a joke. Not sure where this rubbish is made but send it back to the manufacturer. Total rubbish

Impossible to remove black mold growing in crevices inside the plastic mechanisms within the cistern!! – I'd had this toilet for about 10 years when I noticed a horrible smell in my bathroom, and after extensive searching of the rest of the room, I discovered it was coming from the toilet cistern, where all the parts of the plastic mechanism above the water line were covered with black mold. It's impossible to get all the mold out, since there are… Read more

many tight spaces - between parts that overlap, between the two plastic towers and the back wall, that are impossible to reach. In the process of cleaning what mold I could reach, I discovered that this toilet's cistern, unlike any I have ever experienced, doesn't drain completely when flushed, the outlet leading to the bowl is about 4" (10 cm) up from the bottom, leaving all that water basically stagnant. Just to give an idea of how unusual a problem this is, most toilet cisterns in the US, if they have any problem at all, have mineral deposits from the water. In fact, I've seen survivalist videos suggesting the toilet cistern as an emergency source for clean water (it being covered, and changing multiple times per day). If I had to sum up my experience of this product, it would be shock and disappointment.

Caroma essence uniset II from Bunnings – Bought this unit from Bunnings and plumber easily adapted it to replace an old existing Caroma cistern only as toilet pan still in good condition and this is a budget renovation. Fits lower on wall than old one so need to paint the wall but looks amazing. It does the job well if you are happy with plastic and basic Seat as it's not soft close. … Read more

Might potentially switch it later on. For now it doesn't matter. Main bathroom has a new modern unit in a different brand in vitreous china and was disappointed. No 2's require 2 flushes so no point in the water saving function. I will stick with Caroma in future.

Design Faults + Maintenance faults – 1️⃣ Design Fault. Significant nearly horizontal surfaces in the pan means skid-marks that require brushing after almost every use. It might boast water saving, but in use, the constant need to double flush and brush and flush makes a mockery of that. 2️⃣ After around a year, the outlet washer failed to seal due to the flimsy plastic pressure plate… Read more

having cracked apart. This is not available as a spare part so the entire outlet flush mechanism had to be bought for around $80 just to obtain the one small part. 3️⃣ After another year, the outlet washer is again allowing a trickle of water into the pan. Another purchase of the entire outlet flush mechanism is required. This time, in order to fit the new unit, the whole ceramic cistern will have to be separated from the pan to get to the mounting nut concealed underneath.

Defective Fowlerware cistern button and bracket assembly – I have a Fowlerware toilet (now part of Caroma / GWA Group) and have had to replace the cistern button and bracket assembly five times as the button breaks off after 2-3 years of not heavy use (we have 3 toilets in household of 4 people). The part is $89 and I contacted GWA to see if on this occasion they'd be open to replacing it FOC in good… Read more

faith. Their After Sales & Service team was very slow to respond (10 days) and kept asking for different extraneous information each time contacted, eventually indicating this was "normal wear and tear" when the part is clearly not fit for purpose. I've also had problems with my Caroma Classic antique style toilet, where the buttons have jammed and they don't manufacture the part any more. Unfortunately it looks like a case of poor local manufacturing compared to larger foreign brands, I'd look to some of their well known competitors like Kohler, Villeroy and Boch, Toto for example, and stick with manufacturers who provide better after sales service, make more reliable toilets and can supply parts as needed during the lifetime of the unit. Meanwhile I'm pursuing an unfit for purpose claim under Fair Trading. What a hassle!

toilet luna – Poor quality, the base of the toilet is offset to the top, the seat flex (lid banging the cistern when you seat) and is too narrow (not comfortable) Customer service do not deal with client (their reply). Chineese poor quality overall. NEVER again and very disappointed to loose another Australian icon. Show details

You are better off buying something cheap from Bunnings – Can't believe how bad a Caroma toilet could be since it's such a big brand. Bought this toilet suite as part of my new build thinking that Caroma is a good brand for toilet. Less than 2 years and the cistern is leaking and was told that the internal mechanism only has one year warranty. I've had no brand toilet suites in all my previous properties… Read more

and they have NEVER leaked, after over 10 years. Terrible product. Don't buy Caroma, the other reviews here will tell you the same thing.

Poor quality – The seals in caroma cisterns are very poor quality don’t get me wrong as a plumber they give us lots of jobs but it’s just wrong that they can last less then 12 months and there is nothing we plumbers can do about it I recommend my clients use another brand. Show details

Defect – Looks good- comes in different colours to choose. Not very old, but already needs a washer change. P trap has also stared leaking. High water usage despite double flush. Sometimes need to flush twice

Washer change required every time! – I like the Caroma integrated washbasin cum cistern as it's such a space saver and looks good too whilst it fulfils the need of a wash basin when you don't have the space or plumbing to support it. However we are having to call a plumber to replace the washer almost every 8 months, which is a burden. Wish we had known of this manufacturing defect earlier.

Caroma Pretty Good Suite – Replaced my old toilet and cistern because cistern was leaking and toilet bowl had hard water stains - everything still worked but leaked and didn't look good. Plumber installed Caroma Concorde Uniset - ceramic bowl, plastic cistern. Has a dual flush so economical on the water, suite also quite compact so sits better on the wall. It seems very… Read more

efficient and flushes much quicker than old one. Am very happy with result and thought it was a fair price altogether with installation - and I have been severely ripped off by plumbers before! Is also very smooth and clean looking in its design.

Replacing with something else – Replacing my coroma toliet this week as it won't stop running. I have replaced all the parts and it still runs. Last straw was today when I had to have a plumber come unclog it because of some paper towel. He told me that with any other toilet I could have done it myself. Had to remove the toliet to fix it. Total waste of money. Don't buy.

Overpriced garbage made in china- Caroma and Dorf – Stay away form Caroma . All their toilets are over priced garbage made in China. My toilet has been hassles no end. My dorf taps ( GWA product which also owns Caroma) have also been a nightmare. My kicthen mixer got called out for warranty twice. The bathroom taps once, and then since the warranty has expired i have had to pay three plumbers.… Read more

These guys are kidding Australians. It is not made in Australia anymore , none of it. Just over priced Chinese garbage. The prices are highway robbery. I hope this review helps someone.

Absolutely worst product Caroma basin/cistern – We installed the hand basin over toilet cistern style toilet in 2012. It is now 2017 and we have had to have a plumber 3 times to fix it. It breaks down a few months after the warranty on the part runs out every time. It is garbage I wish we had never installed it. When I contacted Caroma I was ignored. Good job. Stay away from this product.

Caroma are slack – One toilet in our house which had to be removed. Ordered a Caroma Profile 5 with integrated basin toilet. That was a few weeks ago. Caroma tell Tradelink that they have not had time to unpack the container of stock that they have received. Thanks Caroma.

Caroma Slimline Cistern, looks good but tendency for button to stick – I purchased Caroma Slimline Cistern which looks good but I have discovered if one isn't careful then button can get stuck. Had water flushing in toilet for several hours. Will need to get plumber back to fix it

Excellent after sales service – I bought 3 Caroma Banksia toilet suites for a major renovation. When the last one was installed the plumber threw out the chrome plugs that cover the screw holes and access holes on the pan. I rang Caroma and Ben at tech support as extremely helpful. This toilet suite is now discontinued but he found some plugs for me and expressed mailed them to me. Couldn't get better service than that. Well done.

Absolute rubbish – I have 3 Caroma toilets in my house and all of the cisterns leak water even after changing the washer. I have tried rubber and silicon washers with the same result. The whole flushing mechanism is plastic. Do yourself a favour and give Caroma a miss to save you headaches and money further down the track.

Superb toilet cistern – This is Caroma rimless toilet cistern is superb . Being a little higher, it is very comfortable. It is so easy to clean, flushes well and never seems to get those nasty 'skid marks'. Highly recommended.

Safety Alert – Safety Alert - Caroma toilet cisterns If you have a ceramic china Caroma toilet cistern please take this seriously. I am horrified to think this fail could have happened while a child was on the toilet. Just look at the large sharp broken pieces let alone the crushing weight of a cistern full of water. Take the lid off the cistern and… Read more

look at how the cistern is held to the wall. If you see plastic thumb screws on a plastic thread then the installation is dangerous.

As supplied by Caroma, this dual flush cistern (which I'll guess is around 30Kg full of water) is hung on the wall by two x 1/4" (6mm) Hollow plastic screws which are housed in an aluminium backing plate. However well the plate is screwed to the wall the entire cistern weight hangs on these two small plastic screws.

The plastic screws failed. The cistern came away and crashed.

I believe this is an epic fail on the part of the manufacturer Caroma and there should be a national product safety alert published.

The problem can be averted by replacing the plastic screws with 40mm long M6 countersunk stainless steel nuts and bolts available in Bunnings at less than $4 for a pack of three. Wrap the shank of the screw thread with plastic insulation to cushion the ceramic and use the original thumb screws as washers.

You will need to disconnect the water and the flush pipe to take the cistern off. Unscrew the backing plate from the wall to replace the bolts and reassemble.
