I bought for myself for my birthday from Cash Converters Prahran an expensive French designer brand jewellery item that was advertised as sterling silver. The images looked like it was gold-plated but this is often done with sterling silver. My purchase was more than twice the price of two other jewellery items of the same French name brand, and… Read more
the same model but different colourways/designs that I've bought from other Cash Converter stores before. I did my research and found that this French brand did once make this item in sterling silver, so I assumed it was genuine vintage stock. When it arrived, it was clearly gold-plated metal, possibly brass, and not sterling silver. I phoned Cash Converters Prahran and spoke to both the online store operator and the store manager. I explained that I wanted to keep the item, but that I would like a discount because it was not made of sterling silver as advertised. The Prahran store manager declined. I escalated it to the Cash Converters Regional Manager via the Western Australia headquarters of Cash Converters. He declined a partial refund and gave me the same response as the store manager. They wanted me to return the item for a full refund but it was my birthday present to myself and I didn't want to return it. So, Cash Converters gets away with false advertising, which I understand is an offence that carries penalties. This means that you possibly can't trust that any item advertised by Cash Converters online is as described. I've made a complaint to the correct authority, but you need to know that you cannot trust that the details on Cash Converters Prahran store listings are correct. You should also doubt the accuracy of the listings of other Cash Converters stores. This is the listing, if it's still online. https://www.cashconverters.com.au/shop/jewellery-fashion/jewellery/bracelets-bangles/bracelet/001900391888?utm_campaign=wbat&utm_content=savs&utm_medium=email&utm_source=epi The response from the Office of Fair Trading (Queensland): "Regarding your concerns about false advertising, it is important to note that such matters fall under the jurisdiction of the courts. If you wish to pursue this matter further, you may need to seek independent legal advice or contact your local magistrate’s court to explore your options." So, if you see something advertised, and it's not as described, the only recourse you have is to take the matter to court.

So many people are quick to criticize and complain however on this occasion I want to take the opportunity to congratulate cash converters in Clarkson for their very professional after sales service. I was interested in making a purchase from a store a few hundred kilometres from me. The Bunbury WA store had the piece of jewellery so I rang them and was lucky enough to speak to Fraser. He couldn't have been easier to deal with or more knowledgeable. He's also a jeweller so definitely the go to person in store for this type of query. He… Read more · 1

MAJOR BREACH OF AUSTRALIAN CONSUMER LAW – MISLEADING LISTING & DISMISSIVE MANAGEMENT I am warning the public about the deceptive listing practices and dismissive management at Capalaba QLD store. I purchased a Golf Set based on listing photos that clearly show 7 clubs. Despite this, the store attempted to provide an incomplete set and is now… Read more
attempting to evade their legal obligations.
Both and store staff and manager, and the Regional Operations Manager have been dismissive of my consumer rights, attempting to twist the facts with their inconsistent claims, and "re-write" the law to suit the store's bottom line. They claim they are adhering to the law because the text now says "6-piece," completely ignoring that the overall impression of the listing, which a reasonable consumer relies on, was a 7-piece set.
The Specific Breaches of the ACL:
• Section 18 & 56 (Misleading Conduct & Description): The store continues to display photos of 7 clubs while providing 6. The law is based on the overall impression, and this listing is fundamentally misleading.
• Section 261 (Remedies at No Cost): Most insultingly, the store admitted they sold the putter from my set separately for "a couple of hundred dollars" according to their own words. After profiting from selling my item to someone else, they attempted to make me pay their "cost price" for a replacement. Under the ACL, a replacement for a failed consumer guarantee must be provided entirely free of charge.
• Section 259(4) (Consequential Loss): The store’s behavior regarding fees was opportunistic. They initially refused to cover delivery costs and only "offered" to cover a minor $8 logistic service fee once they realized I had already secured a refund for the primary shipment. This is a failure to acknowledge the true consequential loss, including hours of research and communication required to fix their error.
• Section 263 (Rejection of Goods): Because the store failed to provide the complete set as represented, I have not collected the item. Under the law, the responsibility for this failed delivery and the cost of the goods remains solely with the store.
• Section 29 (False Representations): By making false claims about the set's composition and my legal rights to a remedy, the store has violated specific protections against misleading representations.
I have logged all evidence of the store’s inconsistent statements and have provided this to Consumer Affairs and Office of Fair Trading for formal investigations.
Avoid this store at all costs. Management has demonstrated a clear intent to ignore Australian Consumer Law and rewrite legal obligations to their own financial advantage. Unless you are prepared to deal with deceptive listings and a refusal to honor advertised contracts, take your business elsewhere. Do not risk the legal trouble of dealing with a retailer that does not operate in good faith.

Went to buy a pendant which was advertised online for $1990. The price sticker in the shop said $1990, when I went to buy the shop the assistant said it was $2990 despite the price being plainly on display as $1990 (I took a photo), so both the online price and the shop advertised price was $1990 but apparently she consulted the manager who… Read more
refused to honour the advertised price. This a breach of consumer law., when I pointed this out to the the assistant she said the price had changed but she was too buys to change the price. Too busy to abide by the law! Unbelieveable, considering that looking through the reviews for this place there seems to be quite a few people complaining that they would not honour the warranty or are selling shonky goods and not describing them honestly I would question whether the manager is a fit and proper person to hold a pawnbrokers licence, and considering that the shop assistant was "too busy" to abide by the law I question also whether she is fit and proper to work there. I will be making a complaint to the appropriate authority and I urge anyone who has had a similar experience to contact fair trading also.

Out of curiosity, I asked for a quote for my Marshall stack amp. The head is a JCM 2000 dual lead and the cabinet is a 1969 model. The grill on the cabinet is torn in front of one speaker but everything works fine. They offered me $150 for it all because it would be hard to sell because of the cabinet. I did point out the head is a seperate piece. I just smirked, said thankyou and walked out.

Loan Assessment time took too long. It says to wait for 48 hours and it’s usually earlier than that. I waited more than 48 hours despite answering additional questions over the phone a day after I had applied for the loan. I had too withdraw my application. Wait time was too long.
