I recently purchased a 6 x 4 trailer with cage and ramp. Zane was amazing, I have limited knowledge of trailers and he was very patient with my questions prior to purchase. I had the trailer delivered and Eugene went above and beyond in showing me the ropes and the basics of the trailer, I cannot thank him enough for the time and support I… Read more
received. The trailer is more than I imagined, very robustly built, easy to manoeuvre ( older lady here) and use, highly recommended this company and their trailers, very happy with purchase and the level of care from the team at coastmac
It's been a little over two years since purchasing my 8x5 dual axel heavy duty trailer. Thought I should run it in before reviewing my purchase. I'm a tradie and use it most days carting materials and equipment. I've put it though it's paces with some heavy loads with no issue. I also had Coast Mac fit removable motorcycle wheel chocks that have… Read more · 1
come in a treat on the weekends getting me and my two boys bikes out into the bush to churn some dirt. Solid cage easy to remove, when not needed and a good size toolbox. The trailer is solid get complimented on its sturdiness a lot it's met my expectations and so glad I went with the heavy duty off road version having the larger wheels helps with clearance off road. Can't fault the product the sales guys were also very friendly and helpful, helped me to make the right purchase as I was considering a smaller trailer.
Thank you Coast Mac Dean
Poor Company, lack of accountability – Bought a brand new 7x4 Trailer from WA division Trailer is rated on plate to carry 480 kg load, upon first loading barely had 200kg and the wheels were touching the mudguards. After unloading the trailer they agreed to repair under the 12 month warranty and really warranty aside anyone who builds you something like this should do this without the… Read more
warranty After seeing my pics they had said trailer had incorrect springs fitted, so what quality checks are they doing to stop these trailers going out like this?! I dropped trailer back for them to send to Bunbury and came back a week later, trailer was delivered only after I claimed the inconvenience to me, after many times asking for delivery after the repairs caused by their stuff up When trailer was delivered back it was missing a nut on the spring eye, how and why you wouldn’t double and triple check everything was right?!!
I feel for those buyers that don’t have the knowledge of tare mass and load carry mad they won’t understand they are being jibbed From my experience In manufacturing this wouldn’t be an isolated incident as well
Poor quality control, what type of brand new trailer do you have to check over from top to bottom yourself! – Brought a new 8x5 box trailer 3 days ago. Turns out the brake and or LHF wheel bearings were set too tight. Warped the rotor and overheated the hub assembly and wheel bearings. This has now led me to checking everything down to the last nut and bolt. Not something you want to do to a new item you just purchased!

Sub standard axle springs – Bought a Coastmac trailer 7X5 heavy duty from Coastmac Wangarra. Sales person was brilliant and helpful. Problem is with the trailer springs only, after 15 months of ownership the trailer springs have sagged to the point where the wheels rub on the mudguards. I have not contacted Coastmac as it will not be worth the hassle after the warranty has… Read more
expired. Trailer has had very little use and never been overloaded, has carried a few loads, garden green waste and a couple of loads of firewood. I will replace the springs with some heavy-duty springs from Martins Trailer Parts, that will require some modification by shifting the spring hangars to accommodate the new springs. Coastmac should be looking at the light weight springs used in their HD trailers.
EDIT: Having received a reply to my sub standard axle springs from Coastmac trailers in Bunbury, the Manager i liaised with was very good and have said they will get a new set of leaf springs to me via transport company.
I am astounded by the helpful courteous response from the manager of the Bunbury Coastmac trailers branch, saying they standby the product they sell and will rectify the issue, even though the trailer bought new and is out of warranty, This was first class service, which is all but unheard of now days. Thank you Coastmac Bunbury Manager for your diligent assistance in rectifying the problem. I will update photos when the new springs are fitted.

Fix outside of warranty...wow – Bought a Coastmac trailer over 12 months ago and its still in great condition, had a small warranty issue after the warranty date with the trailer, and was concerned whether I would get a reasonable outcome, however Coastmac jumped at the opportunity to help and sorted me out without any push back, Coastmac trailers deliver on quality and… Read more · 1

Coastmac Trailer – First bought a trailer from Coastmac and when it arrived it was actually too big. I didn’t do my research and was longer than I expected. Spoke with Coastmac about my concerns and they provided me with an even better trailer met all my expectations. Great trailer, very durable and tough. Highly recommended. Show reply

Definitely worth the money and fantastic customer relations – Coastmac and Tristan have left me eating my words and am changing a previous 2 star to no option but 5 stars , after having a few problems with my trailer and leaving a rather poor review I was contacted in regards to the problems I had , Tristan and Coastmac have gone way above and beyond to rectify the situation (even now past warranty ) and… Read more · 1
have shown great pride in making sure their products are to a high standard and that others will not face this problem once it was noticed and has changed all the original trailer ubolts with heavy duty ubolts , I am actually left dumbfounded at the effort they have put in to keep a customer happy and must admit they are well worth their value for money , I have a 7 x 5 caged and will be looking to buy a second for the business in the future , thankyou for looking after your customers and I really must apologise for the previous review ,
Good Trailer Let Down By Poor Assembly And Axles – I bought a HT35 10x5 3.5 tonne tipper trailer from Coastmac Welshpool at the beginning of 2018. After 4 years use (~20,000km) including a three trips accross the Nullarbor with typical loads of up to 1.5-2 tonne (eg. mini-loader, rock), here is what I have found. While most of the trailer is heavy duty and has had no problems (frame / suspension… Read more
/ tipper hydraulics / coupling), it has been let down by poor wiring and lousy axles and repairs done by Coastmac to fix the problem axles:
1) Wiring: Upon delivery it was immediately apparent that the wiring looked like a 5th grade science experiment. Extremely thin gauge wire had been used on the tipper wiring and was only a couple of weeks before wires started to break off terminals in the tipper mechanism. The electric brakes also had very thin gauge wiring and were barely working due to the high resistance and low current to the brakes. I did mention this to Coastmac, but quickly saw that this was getting nowhere and completely rewired the thing myself to avoid further frustration. Has been good since then for past 4 years.
2) Axles / Hubs / Brakes: The first problem with the axles appeared after only a couple of months when going around a tight corner with a couple of tonnes of rocks on board. This caused the axle spindles to bend with the wheels permanently bent way out of alignment. I later found out that while the original axle was 50mm, it had Holden parallel bearings and spindle (only ~31mm) which must only have a rating close to 1 tonne per axle. Coastmac accepted that this was a problem they had seen before and repaired under warranty with new 50mm axles utilising Ford parallel bearings and spindle (35mm). These have not bent in the subsequent 4 years with some serious loads on (although wheels do still skew and look a worry going around corners with heavy loads). However Ford parallel bearings are still only rated to 1600kg per axle - not enough for a 3.5 tonne trailer. A second problem appeared soon after the warranty repair - although it had new axles, it came back with a mixture of different old and new hubs on front and rear axles. One of the brakes soon semi-locked up while on the freeway and overheated the whole mechanism for unknown reasons. They also replaced this under warranty, leaving a mixture of 3 different makes of hubs and brakes over the 4 wheels. Although odd, the setup seemed to work, so I couldn't complain. However, after a recent bearing collapse (they have only done less than 20,000km and been repacked by a mechanic only 5000km ago), I decided to fix them myself to see what was going on. This is the shoddy work I found: Apart from cheap chinese bearings being found all around, on the rear axle, the bearing that collapsed consisted of a Ford LM68149 bearing and cone, but a Holden LM67010 cup. These do not fit together properly and the rollers were hanging out the side of the cups by a couple of mm. I was surprised this axle had lasted as long as it did and glad it didn't collapse in the middle of the Nullarbor. These hubs and bearing cups in them were obviously leftover from the original axles that used the Holden parallel bearings and the mechanic was either too lazy or inept to change out the cups in the hubs. Another problem on this axle was that the hubs (original from purchase) are non standard for a Ford parallel bearing - the bearing seal is not a standard Ford bearing seal. Also, the hub is too narrow and requires 3 packing washers to take up the slack between the castle nut and bearing, with one a couple of packing washers having to fit onto the spindle shaft itself. Given the problems I found in repairing the rear axle, I thought I better replace the bearings and seals in the front axle also. Although this axle had correct combination of LM68149 and LM68110 Ford bearing cups and cones and proper Ford parallel bearing hubs, the bearings were obviously second hand, with mixed chinese and Timken brands, and obvious signs of previous heat damage (blueing) on one of the chinese cups that had a Timken bearing in it. When finally sticking the hub and brake drum back on the wheel that had suffered the brake lock up and burnout, the cause of the problem became apparent - the mounting plate for the brake mechanism was skewed, meaning the mechanism didn't fit in the drum properly. Instead of fixing this when replacing the hub all those years ago, Coastmac had put the new brake mechanism on and adjusted it to be so loose as to be almost non operational to prevent it locking up again. I repaired this by bending the mounting plate into proper alignment.
Despite these repairs to bearings and because of the multiple problems with these axles / hubs, I no longer have confidence in this setup with $50,000 of equipment loaded on trips accross Australia and have decided to replace them with new axles using Dexter 2 tonne bearings and 12 inch brakes (as opposed to the 10 inch ones supplied which are a bit weak for a 3.5 tonne trailer)
So in summary, if buying one of these trailers, be prepared for a bit of mechanical work to bring these trailers up to scratch and don't rely on Coastmac to do it for you if you want it done properly.

[Content Removed] Trailers – 2 Axles replaced in less than 2 years, first one was a month after warranty expired. Cheap & [Content Removed]. Previous year models lasted 8+ years new models are cheap crap.
These trailers are dangerous and should not be able to be legally sold – These tradie trailers are made of extremely low quality materials and basically start falling apart within months. The company will not take responsibility for inferior quality and workmanship and the trailers actually fall apart within months. Ours did on the road in transit and fully loaded with tools. We were just extremely lucky that no one… Read more

Great value for money – Recently purchased a new trailer from Coastmac Trailers. The sales guys were easy to deal with and really knew their product. We had the wrong wiring plug on our car, that was no issue as Coastmac Trailers quickly changed the trailer to suit our vehicle at no extra cost. Don't buy these trailers – I bought a 3.5 tonne "heavy duty" trailer a couple of months ago. Checked the lights before leaving and they were fine. By the time I got it to our warehouse the lights had failed. The cheap Chinese LED light unit on one side had failed - we replaced these without bothering the Coastmac people - also checked the bearings - this is essential with… Read more
all of these Chinese imports - a couple needed re-packing. We took it for the first job and loaded around 2.2 tonnes and the drawbar collapsed on the road. I then learnt that these are made with 3mm steel. This is not adequate for heavy duty work - well constructed HD trailers use >5mm steel. Predictably,, Coastmac took no responsibility saying that the trailer was loaded incorrectly. Avoid these and all Chinese imported caravans and trailers - they are dangerous in so many ways. I should have known better.

Unhappy – I bought my trailer 4years ago (supposed to be there heavy duty) in that time I have been through 4 axels, (yes I probably overloaded it the 1st time) but I learned not to after seeing my wheel passing me. axels are cheap and nasty. They are a risk on the road I strongly recommend not buying off coastmac trailers! And [name removed] in Bunbury store is nothing but a rude unhelpful person that literally laughed and called me a stupid, not to mention hanging up on me 3times when I was explaining the situation. They use cheap and nasty bearings and axels that should not be on the road!

it under warranty. Had to have an axial made when the engineering company repaired the trailer in their opinion the trailer steel and wheels weren’t fit for a 3 ton trailer. [name removed] and [name removed] from coastmac were full of excuses even said that I’d probably hit a Kangaroo that had broken the you bolt on the axial. How a kangaroo could take out the any axial on a trailer is absurd. [name removed] also said their trailers don’t go over the pits the transport dept sell them a box of plates no independent inspections done. My belief is as their were no remains of the you bolt it was never their. I wouldn’t recommend their trailers their dangerous and unfit for purpose.
Great value for money – I own and operate a local landscaping company in the south west, of which our fleet of trailers consist of 4 Coastmac Trailers. Coast Mac Tipper Trailer – Brought 2 x coast mac trailers from Gary at the Picton branch and got exceptional value for money and the back up service that i received was second to none. Would definitely recommend their trailers for their strength and reliability and also for the service i received. Mick - Augusta
Great service, great tailer – Brought a ht35, in the last week I have probably moved around 20t and about 12 or so runs to the tip have been running without the cage at this stage but what a trailer (saved my back for sure) so easy to tow and reverse. Only thing i would change is position of side markers, but love the trailer!!!!

minute job and charged 250 for it, probably a 50 for the part and no discount even though there may have been a major disaster from the damn wheel falling off!! I asked him why it happend and he was just shrugging his shoulders acting like its only happened a few times but could tell its probably common, wasnt concerned at all. Quick profit on an unsafe trailer, I am afraid to even drive it now. Because all they've done was put a new hub on it, didn't test anything, thats why I took it to them thinking it would be stress tested or something to determine it was safe or not, how do I know it won't happen again in a weeks time on the motorway, wheels don't just come off!
Poor Quality Control – After less than year of light use the bearing on a galvanised box trailer seized. I estimate I had done less than 1500 kilometres of small shifting jobs, kids furniture and the odd trip to the tip with green waste. It never went over the load limit by any means and this trailer was garaged alot of the time. The owner/manager of Coast Mac Trailers… Read more
stated that the bearing warranty was three months. That's fine and is perhaps more suited for commercial operators. But a closer look at the failed bearing revealed that there is contamination on the inner bearing and this would have occurred when assembled in all likelhood. Because I did not use the trailer very much it failed much latter and yet they refused to take this into account. One would think that after a failure that stranded my wife and I on the side of the road for 5 hours after such little use, from a quality control perspective they would take an interest in what went wrong. Even a casual internet search reveals that bearing failure is largely due to installation errors particularly when so new. It seems these are trailer assembled from Chinese parts, yet they trade on an Australian made ticket. They are happy to take the money but not the responsibility. We have lost faith in the trailer and would warn anyone else from trusting this brand.
UPDATE: After being ignored by Coast Mac I paid the $$ and had the wheel bearings on both wheels re-checked. A qualified tradesman reported that the side that had been repaired by the side of the road by a helpful stranger was fine. However the other side was about to fail and this had to be replaced as well. The physical evidence was the excessive wear of the bearings caused by the fact that the bearings were never greased properly in the first place! An error in one thing, however, this is sheer negligence caused by a slack attitude.
UPDATE: By way of update on the failed right hand side wheel bearings, I gave up on getting any assistance from Coast Mac Trailers. So instead I employed a qualified tradesman (Fitter) to check both bearings. He found that the bearings replaced on the side of the road last year by a kind stranger were fine. However, the left hand side which was fitted by Coast Mac was on the brink of seizing due the lack of grease applied to the hub and bearing races. The bearings showed quite a bit of pitting. So it seems this was not an error or my fault but a situation created by their sheer s negligence. Perhaps if anyone is contemplating buying a trailer from these dudes, ask for a discount so that you can have the bearings fitted properly!
Update: Wake Up
Looking at the reviews above it looks as though someone has been doing [name removed] thinking for him. The gentlemen with the wheel bearing issues had tradesman look at the problem and give a considered opinion, whereas Coastmac arrogantly dismissed the evidence. [name removed] however, chimes in without any evidence other than some salesman conning him into writing a `good' review to get the star rating up.
This does not solve the issue of poor service or dodgy bearings. But does highlight the gullibility of some people!
