Why is it whenever I shop at Coles I always end up on Product Review posting a negative review? This time its this chemical watered down goop they try to convince us is pancakes mix. The watery chemical cr#p comes out and it turns into some moosh that doesn't even cook like pancakes. Looks more like fake scrambled eggs.

They got it completely wrong. Avoid buying, does not taste like traditional pancakes. 1st side cooks like normal, but the second side... Something is very wrong with this mix.

Don't buy – Followed instruction, mix becomes an unworkable globby mess, can't shake because the lid does not seal properly. Straight in the bin. Show details

EPIC FAIL! Are they even pancakes? – Following the instructions, I shook the container to loosen all the mix. I added milk to the indicator on the bottle to make the pancakes "fluffier". I noticed straight away after two shakes something was wrong. There was no movement in the container. The contents were unshakeable. Taking the lid off and looking inside I saw a coagulate lumpy… Read more

goo. I thought, maybe I shouldn't have added the milk, but the instructions said that I should if I wanted them "fluffier". I added a bit more milk in an attempt to save breakfast.

As I attempted to shake the mix, seated like I was about to use a piece of gym equipment, I thought to myself; "Maybe they mean shake vigorously with a paint shaker? Should I own one?" Like the ones in Bunnings. I mean it would make sense Coles would want you to use one, and taking your pancake mix to Bunnings to get shook in the morning, getting shoppers in the door there would be some kind of excellent cross-promotion from Wesfarmers.

I ended up pouring the mix into a bowl from the container, defeating both myself and the purpose of the container. It was still lumpy so I added more milk and stick blended it (yes, stick blended) the batter to something that wasn't as lumpy.

I heated up my electric crepe pan, which is the perfect thing to cook pancakes on (who would have known), and plopped on the batter. It wasn’t runny at all and just cooked as it landed, not spreading out or getting any higher. Those “fluffier” pancake dreams were looking to be crushed.

They solidified very quickly to my surprise (not really, I had expected weirdness after those first two shakes) and I flipped the pancakes. I was presented with something that looked okay, a very pale-looking pancake. Once the other side was cooked I took it off the pan and let it cool.

After letting it cool, I then picked it up, closed my eyes, and took a bite. It was a bit rubbery but had no flavour at all. I mean nothing. I then checked the label and noticed it has basically no sugar (2.8g per 100g) which isn’t a bad thing if you aren’t having pancakes for breakfast.

But these are buttermilk pancakes. If you are going to have pancakes you want them to taste like pancakes. I’m not sure how this product got approved by someone at Coles to be sold. The person must have never had pancakes before or they haven’t got any taste. Not sure what is worse.

Now, I did replace the water with milk, which it says I can do on the instructions, and added a bit more as it was more like bread dough, but it shouldn’t impact them making them to the point of making them tasteless.

How did they get it so wrong – We purchased this product at Coles last week for $1.50, we normally use other brands but thought we would give this a go. We prepared the mix by adding water and shaking for the recommended 2 minutes then cooked them on our pancake cooker. We noticed that the pancake had no bubbles that we would normally see in the cooking process for starters but… Read more

we were hoping they would be ok.. We gave them a go and they did not rise at all. If I had to guess the batch didn't have the right flour type. We tasted them, they definitely didn't taste like pancakes.. They had a bland bitter chemical taste so we threw them out and made our own from scratch.
