Colorbond sheets are absolutely cheaply made now days. They dent so easily and the paint you can literally scratch off with your fingernails, a pathetic Aussie product. A embarrassing excuse for another poorly made Australia product.
I live in rural Victoria and installed a colorbond roof on my house. The colorbond attracts unsightly mould and lichen and whilst there is a lot of info on the internet of how to clean it, who wants to spend days cleaning their roof (not to mention the dangers). The other buildings all have zincalume rooves that do not grow mould or lichen. Colorbond was the worst decision I could have made - my advice is stick to zincalume.
I would not buy this product it will leak in the rain and panels will fade badly and the complaint department are terrible i tried in vain to help this problem but had no help

Long term disappointment – In 2007, we installed a security fence and gates from Colorbond agent ( since bankrupt). Whilst the fences, as can be seen in the pictures, have performed as advertised, the gates, with one exception, are atrocious. Attempts to neutralise and stop further corrosion were made, the eating through of framing members, with subsequent loss of security,… Read more
is also disappointingly visible. Repair or replacement will be close to $8000.00. At that cost, I have decided to use Aluminium, with which we have had no problems on a lower perimeter fence for over twenty years. I doubt if I will contemplate Colorbond as a choice, in future.
COLORBOND® Roofing Trimdek Sheets with a .42 bmt is an excellent choice for roofing projects – The durability of these sheets is outstanding. The .42 bmt thickness provides excellent structural integrity; you can feel the sturdiness when handling them. I have no doubt they will withstand the test of time and weather conditions.
Colourbond roofs even rust – Got it installed at our new home. It's been 7 years, the area where the solar hot water panel is for the frost valve is rusted. Called the company but they are putting the blame upon us for not getting the solar panels serviced every year. If Colourbond cannot take extreme weather changes or continuous rain then why are they advertising it as the… Read more
most durable product which can withstand in any kind of weather. It's also too noisy, even after getting the sarking installed and spending extra on it. Not worth the cost.
Appalling Customer Service!! – We have a badly denatured roof.....not just age fading! Requested an Inspection....they took no interest or responsibility and deferred to Blues Scope Steel!! Their "warranty specialist" (BSS) , after "how may I be of assistance" , became unresponsive, when we again requested an inspection!! Our experience in keeping with the multiple critical reviews expressed already.
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE – Product is ok, but I asked them "why do you crow about it being Aussie and Aussie made but spell it the American way?" I was just genuinely interested. Not even the manners to reply, twice. Disappointing.
Colorbond ,six years and color chalky! – Classic Cream Colorbond on fifty mill insulated roof ,part of house roof extension by Spanline .Color lasted six years before going chalky,ie surface coating break down.Washed this roof twice a year.! We are on the coast in Nthn Rivers NSW. Dark colors would degrade even earlier.,Their adverts give glowing reports on how Colorbond can withstand the harsh Australian conditions,Really !
Consider other products – "COLORBOND® steel is tried and tested in Australian conditions to look great and deliver outstanding, long life performance." If that is true, why has my dark grey roof turned to pale grey in under 7 years? Don't believe the sales pitch about looking good for years. It won't. Before you consider this product, have a look around the area and… Read more
speak to home owners. Many will be disappointed with the colour failure of the most notable aspect of their home, the roof. As for the warranty claim process, don't waste your time. The reports are all about "the product is performing as to standard". If you are considering spending around $25,000 on a roofing product that claims it will be looking good well into the future, then ensure you obtain a written guarantee that includes the specific aesthetic integrity of the colour. If they won't give you this assurance in writing, find a product supplier who will.
Crap product stick to paint brush – 1991 restore 1870 wreck nth wagga 5 years later white lines appear phoned c/ bond to tell of concerns sent rep lifted a sheet still Brunswick green underneath came back with yes faulty batch would give me replacement tin that I had to pay to take failed crap of and pay to get put back on$ 5,000 then. in the adds in undies out front of house… Read more

Eventually helped solve the problem – Edit - repainted the roof which we were grateful for! New house built in 1994 using Colorbond Crap! Green roof is now white and has been for about 5 years or more, gradually faded. One side is totally white and the other has lovely stripes of white over it. Contacted Bluesteel and they couldn’t care less. It also is rusting in one section. Would never recommend this product.
Too noisy – When will they make a roof that is not so noisy when it rains Cannot sleep , talk or watch TV absolutely ridiculous. Soundproof it also colour does not last. Will never use it again Sue Adelaide
ColorBond -Shocking life regarding colour & no sincere customer support! – Our ColourBond roof has no colour left at all on some sheets (gone silver), right next to other sheets that are still nicely coloured? So the roof now looks silly, where there are clearly faulty sheets regarding quality consistency, considering it was all delivered and installed during the house build in one installation. Therefore this problem… Read more
has nothing to do with weather or how we have looked after our roof - just shocking quality control in their manufacturing process. BlueScope response ..... too bad - no backup and don't care two hoots as its out of a limited warranty!! I not only feel conned and let down by false marketing of their durability regarding colour, they have no duty of care whatsoever. They reckon I now need to get the roof painted at my cost! What nonsense, where the name ColorBond in itself is totally misleading and false - unless about 20 years is all you expect to get out of a ColorBond roof regarding colour. Cannot possibly recommend that company or product under any circumstances.
Absolutely wouldn't recommend color bond – I have a mountain blue color bond roof that has deterioted to the point of needing reprainting. After contacting the installer was told should be guaranteed for 25 years. After contacting supplier told only 12 years very confusing. Not happy with roofing at all when first contact with supplier the foof was only 14 years old.
Colorbond - The good and the bad – To properly explain this review, we need to set out the supply chain for Colorbond roofing steel at that time, which we were told was that BlueScope Steel (BlueScope) manufactures Colorbond roofing steel in rolls, and sells those rolls to intermediaries (roll formers), who roll the steel through machines that put the profile in the sheets and cut… Read more
it to length. Those roll formers then sell to the roofing companies, who either supply the builder, who supplies the home owner, or sells directly to the home owner. In our case we purchased from a roofing company, who purchased from Stratco (roll former), who purchased from BlueScope. So legally, our recourse was with either through the roofing company (under contract and/or consumer law) or with BlueScope under its warranty. Importantly we had no recourse against Stratco, and they had no obligation to us.
We built a home in 2003/4. We chose a Colorbond steel roof for a number of reasons, particularly its then 25 year corrosion to perforation warranty, and 12 year delamination warranty. By 2009 the colour had begun to seriously fade, so we approached BlueScope. They sent a rep out who claimed the fading was nothing more than a bit of oxidisation, and that a good clean would bring the roof back to "as good as new". [Note: BlueScope's advertising material said that in locations with reasonable rainfall, Colorbond did not require cleaning - we have had some serious rainfall on the Gold Coast since 2003]. Anyhow, we cleaned the roof (at our own expenses), but by 2013 the fading was worse than ever, and some rusting had occurred - one downpipe had rusted through. We went back to BlueScope who sent the same rep out. This time the rep went up on the roof and took a small cutting for testing. Bluescope informed us that the testing showed that the roof fading was within their guidelines, so the roof would not be covered by warranty. BlueScope refused to address the rusting issue. We later found out that the cutting used for testing had been taken from under an overlap, i.e. the cutting that BlueScope took had never been exposed to the weather. I believe this is called a snow job.
We took BlueScope to QCAT, who did not want to hear our claim. The adjudicator said we either had to sue the roofing company, who in turn would have to sue Stratco, who in turn would have to sue BlueScope, or we would have to take the warranty claim to a higher court.
We did not want to sue the roofing company, and while we were considering our options, I happened to visit the local Stratco store. I was being served by the store manager, who was very chatty and who told me what a great company Stratco was to work for, and how they always put the customer first. I told him about our roofing problems. He told me to ring their Queensland manger and have a chat to him, which I did. The Queensland manager himself came to our home the next day, took one look at the roof from 20m away and said that roof was obviously not acceptable. He said that Stratco would replace our roof at its own cost. I was stunned. Stratco had no obligation to us, their only involvement was as the supplier to the roofer. But that did not matter, as far as Stratco was concerned, they were part of the supply chain, and the ultimate customer had received a faulty product. If BlueScope would not meet its obligations, Stratco would see us right. Stratco replaced our roof a few months later, using the latest product and with the colour of our choosing.
To the owner and management of Stratco and their staff, what an outstanding Australian company! Well done and thank you again.
To BlueScope Steel, shame on you. And we see that you have now increased your warranty period for our location to 36 years. But what good is a warranty that you will not stand by? You use the warranty as a selling tool, and then do not honour it.
