I used the 3M Command strips on a picture frame 930mm by 650mm weighing approx. 4kg. I used the heavy duty strips to increase the safety factor against failure. I carefully degreased each surface with isopropyl alcohol to maximise adhesion to the… Read more

cement rendered wall. After about two years, the picture, without any warning, crashed to the carpet onto the dining room floor. Damage was minimal with the backing tape and board having to be repaired.

What if a picture was hung over a baby or child's (or adult's) bed using these strips?

It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when these strips will fail, and in the cases where the picture is above a bed or a favourite chair, the probability of an accident causing injury increases significantly.

I went looking (including Youtube !!) for an alternative to using adhesive strips to mount a large heavy picture frame.

The website with the best advice that I found was right here in Sydney ( in St Ives) called "Proflile" which explains in detail how to hang a large picture frame (using TWO hooks, not one) and also has a calculator to accurately locate the d-rings on the back of the frame to get the most stable results. They are the only site, besides this one, that cautioned using the 3M Command strips especially in high risk locations.

Here is the link to the article on the Profile companies website . . . . . .

Follow-up  · Did it damage the wall? The cement rendered wall was not damaged when the picture fell. The strips lost adhesion with the wall, not the back of the picture. Was installation easy? Not sure if that is a question about the 3M Command Strips or the traditional clips and wire installation. Both were easy with the "clips & wire" taking a bit longer. … Read more

Purchase at your own risk – I’ve been using a variety of Command Picture Hanging Strips for just over a year now and the quality of the glue that adheres the sticky part of the strip to the locking strip dries out and no longer adheres the strips together. A couple of pictures have recently fallen off a wall, leaving the sticky strip behind. These are not heavy… Read more

frames/pictures, one weights just 250gms. The strip holding that frame was a large strip. I’ve checked other pictures and a number of the strips are experiencing the same problem. I would have expected the glue to have remained viable for a longer period than it has. I’m now worried larger pictures are in danger of falling.

Thankfully I staple the strip to the frame if possible for added security. The frames that fell I didn’t staple because they are light.

Trying to send a message to Command through their website continually throws up an error occurred message. I’ll try and call them but don’t hold out much hope for a resolution.

Can't recommend – Followed the instructions and so far have had 3 frames fall off the wall with all not even lasting a year. Wouldn't put my faith in this product again

Useless Product – I bought these to hang a frame that isn’t even 3kg, the weight on the box said it could hold up to 7.6kg. I followed the instructions exactly, the first problem I had was that the strips didn’t seperate as the instructions said they would but they also didn’t seem to stick to anything despite the fact that I thoroughly cleaned and dried all the surfaces. Waste of money and waste of time. Show details

A poor quality product and woeful customer service – After my picture frame that was supported by Command 3M strips fell off the wall, I contacted the company about the issue. At every step of the way the companies representatives on facebook and over the phone have used gaslighting techniques to make me think my application and preparation of this product was the problem. This even got to the point… Read more

that after having the representative mansplain how to use the product for the 5th time, then having them brag of their 10yr career with the company and finish with the insinuation "so what do YOU think the problem is??". In making a complaint about a companies product you should not have to deal with police-like questioning and insinuations, nor should you have to prove ownership and provide receipts of a frame you purchased over 3yrs ago.

This is a product I have used for many years but have noticed that the quality of the adhesion has deteriorated as the price of the product has increased.

This company has been simply gross to deal with and I'd issue caution to anyone dealing with them.

Not Recommended – I've hung framed photographs on my plasterboard wall and nearly every one has come off. I have damaged skirting boards, smashed glass and broken frames as a result. Also damaged irreplaceable art! Attached is only the latest example along with another ready to fall. Show details

Fell off 8 months later – Used 2 x 3m command strips where the instructions said only 1 was needed. Placed them on each side to evenly hold the 1kg picture. Followed all instructions. It held for 8 months and today the picture fell off and broke. I do not recommend the strips. Sadly the picture is now permanently damaged. Show details

Doesn't work – I bought two boxes from different retailers because I thought the first one was faulty. This product is useless. Doesn't stick and the instructions are really poor. Had to check additional sources to do it properly. Waste of money.
