  Corporate Data Recovery

Disappointing – Never going to be a good review when there's a zero result. The two stage payment (1st to assess - 2nd to fix) is odd. When the assessment says you'll need to spend the extra money to fix it, you do so thinking it will be fixed. I guess I got unlucky. I've lost everything (external backup drive and PC drive went down within 2 days of each other.) Business files, family photos - a big chunk of my life.

The loss is not the companies fault, but ultimately, after nearly 3 months and expenditure of more non-refundable money (on their advice they'd need to do more work), I can't say I'd recommend the timeframes it took, or the fact that the first $250 assessment fee didn't pick up that it was non-recoverable regardless of who much subsequent money you threw at it for extra work.

Dear Max4102, We honestly hear and understand the disappointment you feel regarding the outcome. We are sorry we weren’t able to recover your data and unfortunately a factor of the data recovery industry that nothing is ever certain.

To keep our costing down, we have a completely different pricing structure to our competitors. We charge you for our technicians time at each stage of the recovery, meaning a cheaper price in total (when a successful recovery is completed). In your case you weren’t able to benefit from the saving as the result still left you without your data, however to compare how the competitor charges, we assure you that it is customer focused. Competitors have a charging structure which only charge when the data is successfully recovered. If they are able to successfully recover, they charge thousands (no exaggeration). The reasoning behind this, is to make their business model profitable they need to make enough money on the recovered jobs to fund the unsuccessful ones. So at each of our steps, we charge a fair, viable amount to ensure customers aren’t paying for the technicians time for other customers work.

To clarify our charging structure as per our website ( external link  ): Step 1. Payment for an attempted recovery Step 2. (If step 1. Determines it is required) parts are ordered and charged. Second recovery attempt completed. Step 3. If successful, there is a charge to extract the data and put the data onto media to be returned.

Regarding time frames, your particular job took quite some time. When hunting for parts, we need to locate globally a hard drive that has the exact same numbers in its sequence. This includes manufacturing location, dates and batches. This makes finding donor drives difficult as there are literally millions of combinations to sift through to find the right drive to cannibalise for parts. In addition to locating the drives, we then have to wait for the drive to be shipped from whatever part of the world its coming from.

I know all of this information doesn’t bring your data back, but I hope with a little further explanation you can see we genuinely care about every customer and the outcome.
