Could be a lot better with higher quality components – Strong engine- 3000kms on farm with no issues. Gearing is great for mustering and also highway speeds. Poor electricals- switches are rubbish, have had to retrofit other bikes switches and/or bypass most of the switches. crap with no tube gripper to stop tyre slip pulling off the valve stems, had to drill out and fit some.

Chain adjuster is a poor design and prone to losing position

Warranty claims were so frustrating that I could not even follow them through so I just found myself funding them to keep the bike mobile

My advice would be to keep the motor and chuck the rest...

the end I took the plunge because it runs a Suzuki engine, the bike has all the features you could want standard and an unbelievable 3 year warranty that no other brand has offered to me, and to date I have not had to make a warranty claim. It is perfectly geared standard for cattle work but comes with a different front sprocket to lower the gearing in 1st gear if you are working sheep or slower animals. The balance, low end torque, handling, braking and rider comfort are streets ahead of anything else on the market today. In my opinion for the money you cannot buy a better, stronger, more reliable work horse than this Cougar CXF250 Farm Bike. The service team available from Cougar's head office will deal with us directly on technical and servicing questions as well, which is a great help since we do all of our own servicing and the nearest dealer is a 2 day drive from us. We are due to update our quads this year and we will definitely be getting a Cougar ATV Quad Bike based on the experience with this product. Value for money, Rider comfort, more features than anything i have seen on the market to date.
