Patrick and David at Cradle Mountain Fireplaces are fantastic to deal with and honestly, they couldn’t have worked harder to help us come up with a fireplace solution for our home. We changed our minds a lot! We asked for different ideas a lot! Every time we spoke to Patrick he reassured us “It’s about the journey” and never made us feel like we were wasting his time. I really can’t say how important that was for us! We initially reached out to the two main fireplace retailers in Hobart, and our experiences in-store locally lead us to look or other options, fortunately we found Cradle Mountain Fireplaces.

Our installation needs were not simple but were by no means exotic. We have a small living room and hardwood floors. This meant we wanted something with the minimum offset from the walls and the smallest hearth with the least impact. Where the local guys said it couldn’t be done, Patrick continued to offer us different solutions - all from drawings and pictures of our living space that we sent by email and discussed over the phone. Our being in South Hobart and them being in Deloraine was not an issue.

Not only did Patrick help us work through multiple different options, he also connected us with a builder to have a custom recessed hearth installed, and a flu installer. After the flu installer came to check out the house we hit another problem: the fireplace needed to be closer to the wall than the manufacturer’s fire rating allowed for due to the joists in our ceiling. The solution was concrete sheeting (Skamotec) to line the interior walls, the problem was sourcing it. The local stores either didn’t know what we were talking about or weren’t prepared to help us source it. However, Patrick really worked some magic this time and managed to source concrete sheeting/Skamotec from the mainland within a week so that our install could still go ahead on the planned date.

Our fireplace is a Jotul F305 on a recessed polished steel hearth. Hearth installed by Liam Rattray (builder), fireplace and flu installed by Peter Turner. Both Liam and Peter were recommended by Patrick at Cradle Mountain Fireplaces, and now also personally recommended by us. We couldn’t be happier with our install! The wood heater itself works beautifully for our space.

We have since directed our friends to speak with Cradle Mountain Fireplaces first.

Excellent Service & Love our New Bakers Oven Wood Heater – Recently purchased a Nectre Bakers Oven from Patrick at Cradle Mountain Fireplaces. We are very impressed by the quality of the item. My husband was extremely impressed that it was made in Australia. Cooked our first soup on it and my son used the oven for a Rice Pudding for dessert.
