Cycliq Fly6

Worked OK until I stopped using it – Bought both a Fly6 and Fly 12. Cameras worked fine but kept forgetting the day time while I used the bike to ride to work five days per week. Now I have a different job and only ride the bike 2 - 3 times per week. The Fly12 will only run for about 30 seconds on full charge and the Fly6 won't charge at all. Looking at buying a small dashcam and power pack for a fraction of the price and waterproofing them.
Good quality videos when it works, NOT reliable quality/durability – Paid over $200 and only had less than one year of use out of it. Although capable of taking high quality videos, this cycliq started having prolems (turns itself off randomly while riding normally with full battery) after about 9 months. I was told to try all sorts of troubleshooting (updating firmware, changing SD card etc.) but still not… Read more
working. All these steps took a lot of hassle. Sent it back to retailer, took a few months to get it fixed. Problems recurred after a couple of months but the warranty expired. Wrote to Cycliq and they said happy to take a look it we post it to them, but was then told the mainboard had issues and not fixable, can only offer a small discount if we buy a new one. I expect better durability when I paid for it. You don't buy a 1000 dollar dishwasher and just have it die after 12 months (when the warranty runs out). The whole process was very time consuming and frustrating. Do not recommend!
Good Concept, poor execution – Good concept, poor execution I've had many issues with my brand new Fly12 which becomes unresponsive after a 15min of use (unable to change the light mode or turn it off). Very annoying for a 300$ light, and also quite dangerous since I was left out with an empty battery on my evening commute to home. The Cycliq warranty support is very poor,… Read more
considering that I need to ship the item at my own costs despite the product being defective.
Also the light is quite bulky, and the battery life is lower than I expected.
Absolute Lemon - Nightmare to use and absolutely pointless – I was bought this as a gift and now completely resent the person who bought this for me - 2 years of pure frustration and absolute rubbish customer service too. Avoid!
Expensive Rear Light – I bought one so that I could dob in drivers that drove too close. Cannot read number plates when its dark or in the day when cars are moving faster than 40 km/h. Don't waste your money on this. The other features on it are a joke especially the security anti theft alarm. Whoop whoop
How could a newer generation of this camera be so bad? – I had a Fly 6 Gen 1 camera which worked perfectly fine until the battery died. The Fly 6 CE was on my shopping list. Well, it turns out that sitting in storage for an extended period renders it useless. Maybe it needed a new software update or a new micro SD card? Tried everything without much luck. Won't turn on as it won't recognise any… Read more
of my SD cards after a hard reset. Purchased a new Sandisk Endurance micro SD card which was on their recommended list. Camera is still dead. Customer service was quick to reply. Was a few months shy of warranty. Options offered were limited. Basically, they just want you to fork out more money to purchase a new camera which may or may not have the same inherent problems. They had a special on the new Fly 6 which was way dearer that what Pushy's offered.
There is a real market for bike lights/cameras. Cycliq does not stand by it's products and I will be staying away from them indefinitely. If and when Garmin or GoPro develop one, I will not hesitate to get one. Even Aldi's camera is flawless.
It’s just a lemon – The first time I received the product (the Fly 6) it stopped working after the first ride. I sent it back via Pushy’s and cycliq replaced it. When we got it back we were in the process of selling our flat and it went into storage with everything else for a few months. When it came out of storage we opened it to discover that the replacement one… Read more
doesn’t mount properly and is missing the safety strap (we didn’t even get to test if it worked otherwise).
When we went back to them again with the complaint in the photo attached they just wrote back and said (and I’m paraphrasing) “just try harder to get it to click on”… great. Why didn’t I think of that… not to mention that we had one before that did click in (it just didn’t function). So it wasn’t our mounting skills (so to speak) that were the problem.
While their support team are responsive I have given up on this product. It has been a year or so and it still doesn’t work and I get the feeling we are being palmed off now. $329 down the drain.
I wish I read the reviews before I ordered – I cannot actually review the end product. I got caught up with the heavy advertising and media they do. I saw a sale on and while the price was high even on sale I bit the bullet and ordered. Since getting a receipt, I heard nothing for two weeks. I reached out and apart from a whole lot of apologies and "understanding my concern" what was clear… Read more
was there is no stock in the country and the items are probably on their way to them but they could not be sure. A few emails back and forth and it is clear they are just buying time. How much? I don't know because they are vague and evasive. It almost sounds like a cashflow issue for their business, keep the money coming in and try to manage the complaints. If this is their sales approach, I can't imagine their after sales service being any near better. End comment and I hope they read these. If you are going to sell something, be up front with your stock availability, be honest in your communication with customers
If I could give a minus rating I would – I orded a Fly 12 direct from Cycliq. I am still waiting for it to be delivered. After many emails they sent me a Fly 6, which I did not order and do not want as I already have one. I have sent many more emails and they will not reply. Avoid at all costs
AVOID – Purchased Fly6 Gen 2 from Pushys early 2020 filled with water when got caught in a brief shower, had replaced through Pushys same happened with replacement. Pushys then sent a fly6 Gen3, within a month it stopped working when out riding (no rain this time) It became hot and stayed hot for hours. Pushys forwarded to cycliq, 2 months later cycliq… Read more
said its in the que to be inspected and no indication of when it will be replaced, 3 months still waiting.
Have the latest fly 6 now through warranty and it works well. Good clarity, the only problem I find is the battery life for my longer rides, It’s not long enough.
Agree with others , great idea but my experience makes me question quality and customer support – Firstly a Fly6 gen 1 which cost $225 lasted less than three years and battery wouldn’t charge. Like another reviewer Cyclic support said they couldn’t replace but offered a “discount for the gen2 which is better than the gen1”. My Gen1 was used maybe 30 times at most so although once bitten I purchased a gen2 from A bike store for $190 in 2019. … Read more
I then took the opportunity to dismantle the gen1 and was surprised to see in my opinion the battery used was the really cheap chinese knock out. Not just cheap but in my opinion REALLY cheap. from mid 2019 I had to spend three months in Italy, got lazy on return to Australia got three or four rides with the Fly6 gen2 in before Covid. As we know Dentists advised not to ride whilst restrictions were in because any fall that resulted in broken teeth wouldn’t be repaired. So basically I didn’t ride all year until Xmas 2020. So after connecting a wall charger to the Fly6ce I was surprised to find the unit was dead. Updates to firmware, hard resets and different wall chargers and SD cards made no difference. I contacted Cycliq support with info above who emailed back with URL links to conduct resets etc ( did they read my support request I wonder)? I also contacted the retailer who offered to send unit for service or “ a discount on a gen 3” ( seems in part to ignore consumer law)
Update Rather than use standard small appliances chargers, I connected the Fly6 Ce to a full laptop charger last night. ( i.e greater than 5v/1A) The Fly6ce and transformer got rather hot. After 3 hours on the fast charger the Fly6ce charging light was still red. Whilst connected to charger Performed 2 x times hard reset procedure with SD card in and then out, failed Turned camera on and attempted hard reset procedure x 2 times, SD card in and then out, failed. Disconnected charger, device unresponsive reconnected power and performed hard reset procedure with SD card in and obtained a “Morse code” from device. Attempted turn on of device but would not start, failed. Attempted hard reset again, unit and transformer now very hot, obtained a reset confirm light after 20 seconds. Unit charge LED then displayed to green. Left on standard wall charger overnight. Disconnected power this morning Tested Fly6 CE power up and obtained three beeps, it functioned for 5 minutes and then turned itself off.
I restarted device in stationary upright position and it ran the 20 minutes before auto shut down. Repeated power on and obtained a further 20 minutes run time.
I haven’t had a look at SD card video as yet to see if that is working. I’ll attempt a turn on is device tonight to see if the battery has been capable of holding the charge for 12 hours and then again next day.
On reviews about SD card selection, it doesnt make sense that Cycliq advise that a San Disk extreme SD card is ok if seeking 64gb of storage but not ok at 32gb or 16gb?
The good, the bad and the ugly – This review is for the CE model (so not 1st gen, or the new 3rd gen). The Good - easy to use, great video coverage, app access to settings, multiple attachments provided (so if you have an aero seat post you're covered), a safety loop also provided should the seat attachment come loose for whatever reason, nice bright 100 lumen light (not the… Read more
brightest ever but very functional), and fast service response by the team in WA.
The Bad - the Cycliq website lists a number of recommended 'compatible' micro SD cards for each of their devices. The site then states that their products only support Class 10 microSD cards (and not to use SanDisk Ultra cards). Why is this bad? Well, you may have issues with other cards not on the recommended list despite them being Class 10 microSD cards capable of better processing than the recommended cards. A SanDisk Extreme card for example, whilst recommended for the Fly12, will likely cause you functioning issues in your Fly6. Even after doing all the problem solving tasks listed on the website. So 'recommended' should probably be 'use these ones only'.
The Ugly - response to the service ticket I raised was prompt (within hours which is great), but the provision of a link to a known 'issue' (one person's issue) with SanDisk Extreme cards from 2017 didn't really float my boat. If it's known issue, then put it on your not recommended list (like the SanDisk Ultra).
Overall - if you've read this far then you're obviously interested in the Fly6. Would I recommend it? Yes I would as once it is functioning it is a great product (be mindful that the 3rd gen has considerably less lumens). But a product of this nature should plug and play out of the box straight away. If there are issues with other cards and you want people to use specific cards then don't call these 'recommended'. Instead, just provide a list of 'use these cards only' and then people know what to do. If this had been the case, I'd rate the Fly6 CE five stars.
Great idea, terrible quality and customer service – The product is a great idea but I would steer clear of them. Terrible quality and customer service. My unit stopped recording within the warranty peroid. Multiple emails to the company and posting it back at my cost to be reviewed have determined it's defective. All they will offer is a 10 percent discount on a new unit. I'm currently taking this to the Australian Consumer Affairs Tribunal
Good technology, poor execution – Had my Fly6 ce for over a year and had no issues. Last week I updated the firmware as it was v1.25. Update procedure was followed and the software installed. Unit responded as described in the online instructions (lights flashed and beeps sounded), however once the update was completed the unit was unresponsive and is now effectively useless. No charge light or on/off. I’m quite suspicious of the update software.
Fails to read any SD card, unusable out of the box – Bad impressions from the get-go. The Android app wouldn't recognise the camera (and it wouldn't see a Fly12 CE either) even though it was visible in bluetooth settings. The iPhone app recognised both and worked just fine with the Fly12 CE. It kept complaining, however, that there was no micro SD card in the Fly6 CE. There certainly was and I tried… Read more
four others, all of which worked in the Fly12 CE.
I've logged a support ticket and they've sent an onerous list of tests to perform, photos to take, and information to gather and forward.
Really regretting this purchase.
Software issues & no support – The good: Bright light and good quality footage. No big deal, this is the way it should be. The bad: 1.Poor battery life. 2.The files aren't mpeg4 and have to be converted for viewing. 3.The card has to be reformatted regularly otherwise you'll only get the last few minutes. I bought with the expectation of a least an hour's recording. More… Read more
often than not get the last 2 mins of each ride if I don't religiously re-format for every ride and fully charge battery.
4.There is no customer support whatsoever. Instead of dedicated customer support, the Cycliq site has a Q & A type section for everyone to post and sort out their issues / grievances amongst themselves. Other customers become "the support" team. I posted some genuine questions and no-one answered.
Very disappointed. Stick with a regular $20 tail light and $100 sports cam and save yourself a lot of hassles.
Great idea, still some kinks to be worked out – Overall I'm happy with my Fly6 rear bike camera, and it works really well on sunny, clear days, but it could still do with some refinements. I have had issues with the charger (the first device I had, the charger plug broke off inside the light, but Cycliq replaced it no problems), the plastic bike-stem attachments break really easily (I've… Read more
been through four) and I find the slide in - slide out mechanism for removing the camera for charging/to prevent theft really stiff and impossible to use which is a pain.
The lens can become fogged up or muddy on wet days, rendering the camera useless, and once when I tried to review the footage from a night ride I just found the headlights from the vehicles made it impossible to identify any cars.
The process of setting up the time, etc. is also a bit old school (you have to plug it into a computer and editing a text file manually).
With those caveats, I ride on a dangerous road for my daily commute and I love both the brightness of the Fly6 light and the safety of having the camera recording away in the background.
I'm happy with my purchase and expect as newer models come out the little bugs will be worked through (I have the second generation camera).
