Looks pretty functions poorly – This gun has been back to the shop 3 times and also to the importer and has had to be completely rebuilt. What a heap of manure this gun is, it has had sooo many issues and I will never touch a cz product again. Firstly, the magazine just fell out, this is very common with these rifles. So off I went to the shop and they had to put a new spring in. Poor QC in the factory was the blame.

Secondly after the spring was replaced in the magazine, the rifle would not feed rounds into the chamber, the bolt simply ran over the top of the rounds. So off to Winchester Australia it went. this is a very common problem with these guns also, the range officer at my local range had the same problem, this turns your gun into a "single shot" rifle. He could never get his fixed, so he "traded it" and never bought a cz again.

It came back for Winchester all fixed up, however, they had to re-bed the rifle and in doing so damaged the aesthetics of the stock and broke the scope dovetails. Most probably because the piece of rubbish gun needed so much handling.

Finally, when it comes back from the importer, it works great, the people in the gun shop are also amazed that it now has a smoother bolt and feeds much easier. On another note, it has also become unexpectedly more accurate since being re-bedded and now shoots much better. Originally I was getting 12 inch groups at 50 metres, I thought it was the cheap Russian ammo I was using, however, now it has been re-bedded it shoots 1 inch groups at 50 metres using the same ammo.

In short this heap of rubbish rife left the factory as a lemon......if I have paid $300 for it, I could understand, however, I paid $1400 for this heap of manure. It is like an Italian car....looks pretty but it functionally defective......the term "Fix It Again Tony" for FIAT rings a bell.

I wish I had listened to the sales guy at my local gun shop who tried to sell me another gun, however, I had heard so many good reviews about this gun, I decided to buy it.

Do yourself a favour and buy anything else.

Update....this heap of $#@& has been back to the gun shop another 2 times. The extractor claw broke and now the spring has fallen out a second time. This is a lemon and the gun store won't replace it.

527 American in .22 Hornet – Have wanted one of these for 20 years. Don't know why - the poor old Hornet is bordering on obsolescence ... but don't tell it that!! It is such a fun little calibre with a fair bit of potential if one is prepared to accept its limitations. Most 22 centrefires on the gunracks these days will probably do a far better job than the Hornet - much better, but will they be anywhere near as much fun??!! I put it down to the crazy notion that jet fighter pilots nearly all have a yearning to fly tiger moths every now and then!!

The CZ is a brilliant brand, with a long Ozzie association. I picked up my first 527 roughly 20 years ago and thought ... yep I've gotta have one of these. But with the decision made, the "consumer" in me stepped up and said - wait for it to go on a special!!

Well despite having seen them "on special" a few times before then, Murphy's Law would decree that they have in fact, never been on special since.

Anyway, a neat little second hand 527 American came up recently, and I grabbed it. The rifle feels perfect in the hands, as if it's been there all these years!! Handling and pointability are superb. The magazine with its ingress about the triggerguard takes a little getting used to, but otherwise this little rifle is completely foible free.

Testing with a sheet of paper reveals full floating of the barrel, all the way to the action. Bolt throw is quick and smooth, extraction positive, with the length of throw of the empties dependant on the amount of beef put into the bolt throw.

On first firing the obvious findings are total lack of recoil and an almost pleasant report.

Load development has revealed that all groups of the 12 or so combinations I have tried so far will shoot within 1.5 MOA, and there are two loads which shoot consistently sub 0.5 MOA. Yep ... less than 0.5 inch at 100 metres. There were zero signs of pressure, despite a couple of maximum load groups, and all empties come up at identical lengths on the calipers.

So far this is a foolproof little rifle, which is handled with ease by my young daughter. It's a definite "keeper", and has been well worth the wait!! Well built; foolproof action; handles maximum loads with ease; extreme accuracy potential. Nothing. It's a winner!!

awesome rifle – i have had my cz for about 3 weeks now. and it has only been amaizing. i had been looking for a .223 for a while and had looked at many different brand around the $1500 mark. i went to the gun shop to get another of my rifles fixed and found the 527 and instanly fell in love. (payed $1160) with the well known brand and the overall feel of the rifle nothing could turn me away and i bought it on the spot and will never regret it. last weekend i shot 6 foxes all head shots and the set trigger is only awesome for this rifle. i have also taken accurate shots (3" group for 5 shots and 350m)with the rifle. all i can say is you cannot go past this rifle and it will only please you. and it's the type of rifle you will hand down to your kids. Happy Shooting! super accurate, well priced and overall awesome rifle
