Temporary weather station for a permanent price – It was ok for about a year, then the outdoor temperature and humidity sensors died. The outdoor unit became very brittle, and it leaked. Then one of the anemometer cups fell off. Into the bin it went. Not a good investment. Low quality. Show details

Good apart from disastrous instructions – Bought this one to replace a Texas Instruments station that just wouldn't die ... but the Digitech one had better features, including wifi transmission. The old station now adorns our other property. I guess we've had better luck than others. We bought ours from a mob called Instrument Choice, and it's lasted for just under 3 years without any… Read more

particular issues apart from the wind readings stopping for no apparent reason for a few hours a few weeks ago.

Easy to mount transmitter and receiver. The former mounting onto pretty well any circular profiled pole up to an inch or inch and a half in diameter, with onboard levelling bubble; and the latter slipping down onto two screws you can mount wherever you fancy. Orientation is horizontal.

Wifi range is good. In our setting the transmitter sits on our chook house 40 metres away, and I can't recall it ever being compromised. From memory we've never changed or charged the batteries in the transmitter - again from memory I think it has a small solar panel to supplement them. We've changed the receivers batteries once.

The display is well laid out, and a quick press anywhere on the screen activates a backlight that stays on just long enough to read all of the parameters.

So all in all, a terrific bit of gear that seems to do what it was designed to. Our only quibble being that rainfall is consistently overestimated to the tune of 10-15%.

Now we get to the bit where there seems to be totally universal agreement .... The manual that comes with this gear is, in a word, appalling. Seriously, if Digitech wants to employ me, cheap, to help with their shameful lack of translation they only have to message!!

Most of the stuff we really needed to know was intuitive ... kind of. But two things one would use very frequently - downloading the data onto computer and clearing the memory after having done that - are nearly impossible to achieve with the information given. I ended up contacting Instrument Choice, who apparently have "scientists standing by to assist" (!!) resulting in my "scientist" somewhat uselessly referring me back to the manual!!

The interface that this device interacts with is somewhat inappropriately called "EasyWeather" - and we think that whoever wrote the owners manual also wrote this programme. We found out, pretty much by accident, that the only way to download data was to simply plug the receiver into computer via the USB lead provided. Then completely disregard anything to do with "uploading" because this feature only takes you to rabbit holes that are a bit like the blackholes of space - inexplicable. When you plug it in it simply transfers the data .... all by itself. Wouldn't this simple single sentence inserted into the manual make a lit of sense and save a lot of tech calls!!

If you look carefully down in the bottom left corner of the interface it will say something like "downloading", and then "complete" a short while later. SIMPLE. A shame it took a long while for us to discover this. So once downloaded, all one has to do is go to the "records" parameter, and input the date range. The info can then be presented in either graph or text format.

And finally, there is a circular "gauge" on the display to give an indication of how much memory is left before overwriting begins. Much like a pie diagram that shades out as the memory fills. It took us a while - and an awful lot of lost data - to work out that the memory is full, believe it or not, when the graph is still showing 25% capacity remaining. The zero point is situated at the 3 o'clock position rather than the 12 o'clock that every other circular gauge I've seen in a half century shows. See accompanying photo - believe it or not the photo is showing a full memory!!.

So ... the criticism of these aspects by others here is richly deserved, notwithstanding that we're happy with the actual functioning of the system otherwise. Would not buy this model again though, because oversights like these are just too significant to be forgiven.

Didn't even last 2 weeks – Bought the new version of this weather station from Jaycar for xmas 2018. Has backlit green and black screen. Had a violent storm about 10 days later and discovered the wind direction vane had snapped off and completely disappeared in the howling wind. Yesterday the wind speed gizmo stopped spinning. Close inspection shows the spindle has seized. Very disappointed as the previous station we had worked for years and years.

Worked well for over 2 years – had weather station working perfectly more than two years.. recorded temperatures up around to 40's. The rain and wind section not working now. JayCar said check for ants or nest. A small spider's web. It worked. Stopped again after a week. Changed batteries with no luck. Took it down from shed roof, cleaned and placed it lower and closer. Still not working. re programming??.

Like a scotch egg-good in parts – I found the outside temperature is too high by 3 to 4 degrees C whenever the sun hits the sensor unit. I fixed it by separating the solar cell from the temperature sensor and putting the temperature sensor in the shade. Viola! Everything else works fine.

Has issues, but great when all working – I have had my weather station less than a year and on 2 occasions the wind and rain elements of station have stopped working. I had bring down remove the batteries, take the batteries out of the screen. Wait 10 minutes put batteries back in, reset happy days. Recommend mount your station in a location you can easily bring down to reset. Otherwise very good unit Good luck Jono

Absolutely horrendous to set up, need to be an IT genius who can read horrendously written instructions – Instructions are absolutely hopeless whe trying to reset wifi connection after replacing router. If I sound frustrated, it’s because I am! Update more than 20 other wifi connections in less time than it’s taken me to find how to change wifi connections on my Digitech XC0436 weather station. Who ever wrote the instructions has made it the most… Read more

Broken – don't waste your money, after about a year stopped working completely, no good. of course no point going for warranty on this, cheap and unreliable, manual provides no assistance to troubleshoot either. I gave up. Will buy a better brand next time.

not worth the money – my second unit. this one works fine until it rains then the outside readings stop working. the only thing you can rely on is that it always stops working when it rains. I will never buy this brand again. Show details

Disappointing and unreliable – I've purchased two of these (XC-0348) over the last 3 years and have had issues with both. plastic disintegration on the sensor unit on the first, with corrosion on the phone-jack sensor ports and faulty consoles. The first console stopped displaying outdoor data of any kind, but indoor temp and pressure was OK. The second console unit worked… Read more

fine for about 6 months but now randomly resets itself, losing all the accumulated data and requiring date/time to be reset - sometimes daily. We collect data for our orchard and need reliable wind speed, direction and temperature data to record when performing an orchard spray and this just doesn't cut the mustard. I only purchased the second one, thinking that perhaps the fault was in the individual unit, but it now appears that poor quality runs through the line in general.

I'll never buy another Digitech unit and would advise anyone considering doing so to avoid this brand and this model.

Works for a while, then things start to fail and fall to bits – Works for a little while then dies, Things break and have to be glued up. Being made of white plastic make the outside unit prone to just falling to pieces. They go all powdery and break. Also the connections are not suitable for outdoor use. Just simple telephone connectors that suffer from corrosion and need cleaning often. I like the unit,… Read more

(when it is working) however a bit better selection of plastic for outdoor use would be a big plus. The transmitter on mine has failed and now trying to get a new one from somewhere. There should be an input power plug on the internal unit as I have to change the internal batteries often and then have to do a full setup again. PITA. I have installed a cable with USB connector to replace the batteries. works fine now just no outdoor info at the moment.

Amateur products not reliable – I've had the Jaycar XC0322 receiver with 2 transmitters for 3 years and share many of the other comments made. I've concluded that these domestic items just aren't sufficiently accurate or durable. Plus 2 and minus 1 degree readings from the remotes against the main receiver is not good enough. But digital thermometers commonly are less accurate… Read more

than alcohol, let alone mercury types - technology going backwards? Beware of any battery compartment with a fiddly rubber gasket weather seal. They are near impossible to close without dislodging the seal. And replace batteries after a set period or regularly test them. By the time readings fail, there will be leakage and the damage is done. All in all - save up for a professional set up - the rest are toys.

Digitech CX 0348 solar battery charger – I bought a digitech CX 0348 second hand unit. Had never been used was all still packaged in the plastic etc. Was reasonably cheap so took the dive and bought it. Setting up wasnt any real big deal and placed it on my small step ladder to give it a few days testing before climbing my roof to fully install it. One of the other forums I looked at… Read more

for possible problems with this type of unit, was that because the battery compartment and the solar panel compartment were one piece and had to be in a sunny area, that if you have an extremely hot day that the batteries would over heat and cause an overcharge problem and can cause the batteries to melt and possibly explode along with losing all data and possibly destroying the unit. So with that in mind I chose to not plug the solar battery recharge panel into the battery compartment and now use rechargeable batteries to power the signal unit. This means I can keep the battery compartment under cover and away from the sun and have a full working unit. The down side, is that there is no indicator on the monitor to indicate how low the batteries are getting, but using good quality rechargeable batteries 1.5v they should last around 12 months before recharging, small price to pay. If you were to buy this particular unit you will pay a higher price due to it having the solar panel, the units without the solar battery recharge units are just as good and cheaper.

Best look for another brand – Bought the Digitech weather station model XC0348 from a supplier in Victoria in May 2019, took about a month to receive the station. After it was installed, I found the wind vane had come off and part of the mechanism that the wind vane connects to was damaged. Jaycar replaced this with another unit, still no joy. Has never functioned properly – We have had ongoing issues with this unit. We need reliable data for our business and this system does not provide it. Rainfall and temperature readings are way out, if they work at all. Totally useless system, will not be replacing with another Digitech product. Show details

Inside unit works well – Outside unit disintegrated should have lasted longer than 3 years. The outside unit registered rain, wind & temp ok should have been UV treated plastic. Looking at buying another one i wonder if they sell the outside unit separate.

Doesn't record rainfall – It looks as though it works fine and with a good rainfall you get excited to see the data and you get nothing. Hasn't worked reliably at all. I'm looking at a refund. They should not be charging that price when it can't perform.

Chinese garbage at its finest – What an absolute piece of junk, if this thing said the sun was shining I wouldn’t go outside without an umbrella! Wind speed didn’t work, temp was incorrect, better off reading the weather by looking out the window. Ranga’s don’t like the sun and we don’t like this weather station either!

Be good if I ever got it back from warranty – Birthday present given to me the end of August. Setup pretty easy. While the recorded rain reading is ok on light to medium rainfalls, I've noticed on heavy (tropical) downpours the water reading is always a lot less than my manual gauge. Within a couple of weeks I kept dropping the connection between the base and the display. I found removal… Read more

and replacement of the display batteries was needed, but it would drop after 30 mins to an hour.

End of Sep I returned it to place of purchase who sent it off for warranty.

Its now the end of October and I've called the store, they cant give me a date for getting it back they just said give it at least a couple more weeks as it normally takes up to 6 weeks. 6 weeks for a warranty repair seems acceptable for this company!!! Last Digitech product I will be purchasing.

no problems with mine – have had one since 2014 apart from having to adjust the rain gauge and clean out the resident spider, the equipment has worked fine. it operated perfect through a wind blast of 120k!! so no criticism of it at all.. in four years changed rechargeable batteries twice...

The first thing I look at each day – I would have said excellent except for the following reasons. I re set the history on the 1st. of January this year and we had 57.5 mm. of rain for the month, however it showed 54 mm. for the year to date this cant be right, can you advise what would cause this error. The only other issue is that spiders are a problem getting into the external unit.

Display unreadable & sensors prone to insect infestation – The 2nd LCD display (1st replaced) became unreadable within 18 mths. Not enough contrast to read the screen. Poor quality lots of problems – Purchased 1 of these about 3 years back and then bought 2 for family members. 3 years in they have all failed. They all were plagued with inaccurate rain readings, inaccurate temperature readings and bits that fail and fall off. Have since purchased an xc369 unit which appears to be better quality and more features - hopefully that turns out to be the case.

positive outcome. We enjoyed our XC0348 whilst it was working and will mis it. Both times it was the rain gauge that failed first, followed by the wind speed and then it failed to send signals to the base unit. Poor results – this unit consistantly reads much lower, about 30%, than my manual gauge, wind detection and rain fall both appear to be effected by leaves and insects despite being sprayed with long acting surface spray. I would not recommend this unit Richard
