Why the hype? – Bought one from Bunnings with an included accessory kit after being repeatedly told by friends I should have one as they are so handy. The cutting disks especially were rubbish. They have a quick change spring loaded connector, sort of like a bayonet fitting. As soon as you put any pressure on the cutting disk it tilts against the spring loading… Read more
and runs off line. The tool lasted around 15 minutes of use before the motor polled and would only jerk around. Took it back and got a refund.
Overall, the thing seems to me to be a toy.
Unless you are doing fine work such as jewellery, very small wooden items, or are totally bereft of any real tools, it seems pointless. I can do almost everything it is claimed to do, in seconds, using hand tools and regular abrasives. I see Youtube videos of people cutting 1/2" steel rod etc using one of these. Why would you do that? It takes me seconds with a hack saw instead of minutes with one of these toys.
Should have bought one 10 years ago – If your looking for one of these you definitely should go with the variable speed. This tool is extremely handy and will save you a mile of time. You can buy heaps of accessories at dirt cheap prices direct from China on eBay. This is a quality built item and packs heaps of power.
Amazing machine love it – I first bought an ozito which lasted half a day I returned it paid the extra should have done this first I give this tool hell more than the average user mainly use on steel after about 3 years of abuse it gave up mind you the 3 years would be a lifetime for most. I looked up the website to find it had a 5 year warranty the item was sent for repair only to receive a brand new item
Very handy power tool – I purchased my Dremel 4000 including the flex drive attachment four months ago. It performed very well for my carving and light grinding project. Intricate contouring, grooving and sanding operations are achievable using the correct abrasive discs, stones and cutters. The additional flex drive attachment and hand piece is well suited to fine… Read more
engraving duties and cleaning/polishing small objects. The ultra high speed of the Dremel tool is what makes it so good, however do not try to drill holes with it, as the Dremel tool lacks the torque required to operate as a drilling machine, causing the motor to labor and probably shorten the life of the tool. Overall a unique and reliable tool that would be a great addition to any good workshop. High speed, ability to competently work on small intricate projects. A huge range of discs, stones and cutters available. Not suitable for drilling holes of any size.
