Dymo LabelManager 280P

Love my labeller – Very reliable and super affordable! Label everything with this little machine. The refills are reasonably priced too; compared to similar brands or products in the range. Would definitely recommend this to others!
Left outside for 6 months in a bucket that filled with water – Honest truth, took it out of the water and left in sun for 2 days, New batteries and it works perfectly. 2 years later, still going strong and I have been using regularly for past few months.
So far ( two days owning) – I previously owned a 30 dollar label writer and had very little problems with it. I could buy the cartridges in the supermarket whilst I was doing my grocery shopping. Sadly it died and I chose to upgrade. I recently purchased this on the idea that I could recharge the battery instead of using 6x AAA batteries or charging and using (which is available on 170) model. I have been trying to source the cartridges at Officeworks or somewhere where they are freely available in Australia. On the 280 and 170 box they feature 10 cartridges types that can be used for the product and we are suggested to go online at dymo to purchase them.
Yet when i've gone on the website to try to find the cartridges that are available they where only available in selected colour ( white background on black ) varying widths. Since then I have tried to find the cartridges but locating them on the internet and are expensive ($20-50) and fairly hard to come by.
I also found out that colours that they mentioned are limited edition online.
I've had the product jam today and yesterday. Contemplating getting a refund based on it being unable to do what I want it to do.
Pathetic inept design incapable of reliable operation – - The printing mechanism frequently jams, at least 3 out of 5 times the label fails to emerge and gets crumpled up inside and the labeller which has to be opened up and cleared of the jam. - It's not smart enough to know what width tape is in the labeller so width has to be confirmed after each jam. - The keyboard has a very spongy imprecise feel and lacks logic in the layout
- The decal for keyboard is faint and hard to read
- The LCD display does not display the status detail such as font size very clearly
I just don't think much, if any, attention or skill has gone into the design of this machine and so any attempt to print labels is an exercise of extreme frustration, as well as being expensive waste of consumables. It's unbelievable that a company that has been around as long as Dymo could display such ineptitude producing such a flawed product at this. It has been a long time since I've encountered such a device that is as poorly conceived, designed and manufactured as this. An absolute disgrace. The promise it could print labels It can't print labels because the mechanism is of a fatally flawed design
