Radix 6 is the Vacuum DC16 is the battery for them – DC16 Battery works fantastic... sorry to point this out to people, but DC16 is the battery, and the Vacuum/head is to the likes of a Dyson Radix 6... anyone crying about a DC16 not working right or whatever, just sounds dumb. Do some research. Show details
Still perfect – I've got a DC16 Motorhead and even after 8 years of no use, it's back and perfectly vacuuming edges of my restaurants stairs/banquette seats. 10/10 for this Ace of Spades.
Horrible DC16 – Ever since I’ve had this model DC 16 it has not run properly, always cut out after about 5 to 10 seconds, have replace battery thinking that was problem but didn’t help. I. Have bought multiple Dyson products including 2 animal uprights and never had a problem but dysondroppec the ball on this one Show details

Dc16 battery issues – Still have my dc16 motor head it now lives in the garage just using the short stick attachment. Decided to replace the battery found one in minutes on line for less than 50$, it's a non genuine battery but it's way way out of warranty anyway so that's not an issue. Not sure why others have such issues finding a replacement battery??? Show details
Still sucks (after 8 years) – I have owned my DC16 for over 8 years now, and have used it constantly - ie, almost every day - since I purchased it new in 2009. It has been used for vacuuming up crumbs, kitty litter, leaves, dust, sections of carpet, and even 3 floors of stairs in my current townhouse! I know it is a discontinued model, but it has been 100% reliable, only… Read more
needing an occasional battery change and filter wash. I actually dismantle it and clean all the parts except the batter and motor sections in the dishwasher. Only problem I had was a warranty replacement of one battery - Dyson was most pleasant and helpful, dispatching the new battery immediately. I love this little appliance, and will use it until it dies - can't fault its performance - it still sucks powerfully after all this time - and reliability. Great product - I highly recommend it! PS: It is now August 2020, and I have, with regret, had to retire this wonderful little workhorse. Not because it failed - it's never missed a beat except when battery was going flat - but, I was informed by Dyson when I wanted to order a new battery recently - that batteries for this machine are no longer available. I have replaced it with a Dyson V7. 11 years and used almost every day! This machine doesn't owe me a thing! Just hope the V7 lives up to the same high standard.
Excellent – Highly recommended. Extremely versatile. Once you know that it will conk out after a short time, you know to keep it charged after little uses and use it accordingly. It is not heavy. It is easy to carry and get to odd places. It is very easy to clean. It doesn't require bags. You can see what it picks up. You can see if it get blocked and is easy… Read more
to rectify. It stores away neatly and easily. Overall, this is the best little hand held vacuum cleaner that I have ever used by a long way. Little beauty! The suction on this machine is unreal. Excellent for window and door sills, and going around the edges (where wall meets floor) Also excellent for those itsy bitsy jobs where you don't want to be carting the big vacuum cleaner and all the cords etc: Like the car, truck, in and out the back part of the fridge and in other hard to reach places. It loses power all at once after what seems like a fairly short time. I had thought the price was too high until I started using it and found it to be so versatile and powerful. (I wish now I hadn't baulked at the price for so long because it sure makes up for that!)

Battery killer – This machine does NOT perform on floors. It eats batteries......going to try a third battery.....definitely a faulty model....expected more from Dyson. Very disappointed .....the last the batteries lasted a couple of months, then would operate for 15 or 20 seconds and stop. 2 to 3 seconds bursts after that. Frustration!!!!! Show details
Dyson DC16 Disappointing - Expensive Failure! – In 2008 I bought five Dyson DC16 (Model DC16BZ-MH) vacuum cleaners in Australia (Vic). (Price for these 5 vacuums was aprox 1600 dollars.) From the beginning on there were problems with all of their batteries. Despite keeping all filters clean the batteries would stop working properly 3 to 6 months after purchase. They would go for 30… Read more
seconds, then stop. I had to press the trigger again and again in order to get it running for less than a minute or so.
When I rung Dyson 8 months after purchase I was told, that this was due to blockage or dirty filters, which it was defenitely not. I suspected a battery fault, but this was denied by Dyson.
I gave up hope for Dyson helping me and packed them away.
In about May 2018 I thought I give them another go, got them out of storage. I rung Dyson in order to purchase 5 new battery packs. But I was told, that the battery pack (Nr 12097 suitable for base station 12152 was not available anymore, it was DISCONTINUED!!!. The only option I have now, is, to throw this hardly used machines into the waste bin.
This is/was an expensive waist of money and in my opinion this is not an environmentally sustainabe behaviour on behalf of Dyson. How many working machines went into land fill because of discontiuation of rechargable batteries.
During my above mentioned attempt to purchase these new batteries, the Dyson staff member offered me to purchase another Dyson model for a reduced price. But for five machines, even the reduced price would have come close to another 1000 dollars. I declined the offer, since I can not be sure, that they will have the same technical issue and replacement batteries may soon not be available anymore.
As I can see now, there were/are many other DC16 customers who had the same battery issues.
I feel somewhat cheated by Dyson, for not being honest when I rung them 8 months after purchase and not admitting that there are battery issues with the DC16.
On that note:
1. I also had issues with the upright Dyson ball joint vaccum, which claimed to be allergy friendly. But it was not. I had to sell the vaccuum with a big loss, because it stirred more dust up than all the other cheap vacuums i had before particularly on non carpeted areas.
2. In December 2017 I reluctantly purchased a Dyson V6 animal origin vacuum at Big W in Australia (Vic).
It was used every 2 to 3 weeks and regularly recharged and cleaned. The battery stopped working in August 2018, 8 months after purchase. I rung Dyson customer support and was told I would be sent out a replacement battery free of charge although a battery pack is (as the staff member stated), not covered under the warranty.
I hope it will soon arrive in the mail, since I am an allergy sufferer and need a reliably working vacuum for all the hard to reach places. If it doesn`t arrive as arranged within 5 to 7 days, I will report back here!
3. The only Dyson model I never had a problem with, was my Dyson "DC08 turbobrush" vacuum. But this is a non rechargable model.
Will not be sucked in again – Bought this a number of years ago to vacuum car mostly. Although it did a better job at picking up varying flotsam and jetsam the rest was dsappointing from the outset. The battery did not last long enough to complete the whole car. You then had to wait three and a half hours before it would reach full charge or wait at least an hour to get enough… Read more
charge to finish the job. Tried to return but retailer refused as I had used it and it had lasted six minutes, the time stated in writing (not prominently) on the side of the box. So bought a spare battery. But as far as I can tell the whole kit and kaboodle needs to assembled and placed in charging base. To top it off, the batteries are incredibly difficult to removed from the vacuum cleaner. For the last three years, my experience with this overpriced machine has been the same as Rod c. Base says it fully charged but it runs for a few seconds. Do I buy yet another battery only to be again be disappointed in the battery life or to find that the fault is with the charging base? No I buy some other brand at half the price. Can't be sure of purchase date.

Exactly as all of these reviews - terrible machine – Exactly the same problem. Machine since day 1 many years ago would go for a few seconds, stop, you would push the button to get a few more seconds until what you wanted to do was done. Got it out today to sort it out, googled and found similar comments. Obviously a lemon of a machine and it seems Dyson know it. Our fault for not chasing it up a… Read more
few years ago but leaves a sour feeling about Dyson. And what's the point of a 25% off offer of direct from Dyson when it is cheaper to get it elsewhere. Poor show Dyson.
Very poor performance and excuses from Dyson – I bought DC 16 sometime back and had the same problem that it will run for 30 seconds and then with more pushes, another 5 to 6 seconds and then required recharge. Same cycle after reacharge. When I called Dyson, they said I need to clean the filters as nothing wrong with battery. Did the cleaning as per instructions but still no different. I… Read more
wondered how did the filters got dirty when it has not done any cleaning? Dyson customer care kept dragging it until it went out of warranty. Now I can't claim anything as it is out of warranty. I was thinking of replacing battery but thanks to all that I came to this product review page. I agree, the bigger Dysons are great but portable one I used is terrible. I would appreciate from others experience what other models did you replace with and if any recommendations on what to buy.

Disappointing Product - DC16 Motorhead AU Ir/Bz serial no: 453-AU-A31597 – I am writing this review with a complaint about Dyson customer service and client value. This particular product that we purchased was rubbish from the onset and I resigned myself to this within 20 minutes of unwrapping it. The vacuum was a total waste of money and it has sat in the cupboard for years. The vacuum was used no more than a handful… Read more
of times during that period. It looks brand new today. Today my husband phones Dyson about the issue we experienced to see what he needed to do to make it work because he is home on leave and wants to use the vacuum to clean window sills. The issue, present from day one, is that it would only work for half a minute max. I have read the same complain from other customers. However, my husband, by the end of the phone call, agreed to buy a new one because he was offered a 25% discount. My issue is if someone calls your business and reports that they purchased your product, which everyone would agree are not cheap, and it has been un-useable. Surely you would be doing a bit more than a 25% discount show good will to a customer prepared to take you on again. I have been using Dyson for many years, I personally don't think you can beat their full size electric plug in model vacuum cleaners but the rechargeable vacuums do not compare and by all accounts are a waste of money which is exactly what I told my husband this morning.
Absolutely Terrible, Crappy Product, Don't Buy Dyson – It never worked properly out of the box, cutting out after 10 secs, and then every 3 or 4. It has been in the cupboard ever since but today I rang Dyson support to see if they ever did get them to work but the technician did not have any answers and was quite evasive. The battery is OK. I recommend you consider very carefully about buying any… Read more
Dyson product as this example of quality and service leaves a lot to be desired. I certainly would not consider anything from Dyson.
Rubbish. There is clearly something inherently wrong with it – I write this for the record as (yet another) dissatisfied customer. Our Dyson worked well for about a year, getting very light use. Then, exactly the same problem arose as other reviewers: machine would work for about 15 seconds, then stop, then start. After a while, we stuck it in the cupboard, extremely disappointed that we wasted our money on a… Read more
Dyson product. It was our fault that we didn't follow up on it (it was out of warranty, anyway) but I feel it was Dyson's fault that they didn't recall what was an expensive product that clearly seems to have design problems. I'm certainly not prepared to pay for a new battery that many reviewers say did not fix the problem. Bored with the whole thing. Disappointed to have wasted lots of my money. Can't understand why Dyson would risk their good name by not sorting out this dodgy product.
Useless product, should be recalled – I have one of these DC16 animal vacuums. As per most of these reviews, I too have had nothing but problems with it, it only runs for a second or two then stops. After speaking to Dyson customer services I paid a fortune for a new battery and it still did the same. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE MACHINES !!, they are not and have never been fit for… Read more
purpose, Dyson know this and should recall them all and either refund or offer replacement machines that work.
VERY poor product with poor support from Dyson.
Is This Really This Crappy? – I just bought one of these things and only get a few minutes of use per charge. I'm better off with a Dust Buster. Definitely going to return. I have an Animal upright and love it but this DC16 is a joke. Why hasn't the battery issue been addressed by Dyson?

battery voltage, both old and new batteries on 20.8 volts, not charged at all.
O/C voltage from 28 volt ac/dc pack was 21.3, particularly when hot, not enough to charge battery.
Alternate 26.8 volt DC battery supply wired in, battery charged about halfway (one green light) and machine runs OK. Both batteries now holding 24.3 Volts.
Have ordered new 28 volt charger pack. (for a v6 animal as no dc16 chargers in stock) and will try it out.
Lot of messing about but I wanted it to work!!!
6 minutes isn't long but I guess I have to move faster.
Update: New battery charger rating is 26.10 Volts, but both green lights come on. Runs OK but not… Read more (+3 replies)
Dc16 battery life rubbish – I bought this item from someone, then when I got it home I fully charged it, but the battery only lasts a few minutes but looking at the reviews it's speaks for itself. This product should never be allowed for sale – Terrible battery life just after few weeks of use. I wish I had these reviews available when decided to purchase this crap few years back. This is like disease. Exactly the same happened to me. For the first week or two it gave 5min or so per a charge and then the longest I managed to get it working is 20sec on full charge. I think Dyson rides on false impression of quality.

Disappointing – My mother bought 4 of these for Xmas gifts for the family. It worked brilliantly for a month but then was a 10sec use. They all did the same, I feel for her spending so much money with great intent. We all live in hope of it working but it just doesn't happen. I would like to get another but am very reluctant due to expense and reliability unknown.

battery type dyson vacuum cleaner – Have had Dyson for a number of years , this would have to be the worst appliance of the Dyson. Bought a new battery but only goes for a few seconds before cutting out. I would have thought with all the complaints something positive would have been done by now. Would not be doing any favours for the marketing of this product and future sales.

This has been a huge disappointment – This has the shortest battery life of any vacuum imaginable. It cuts out after 30secs and takes a long time to recharge. I have not been using it because it is a lemon that cost me a lot of money. I bought it because of the Dyson name and the great technology but it has not lived up to it's brand name.

Dyson DC16 – I also chose this vacuum based on the Dyson name, but found that the working times gradually reduced to about 5 seconds. This has annoyed me for quite some time as it just sits there and I never use it because it is useless. Agree this is most unsatisfactory - and that it should be recalled. It is definitely not fit for the purpose.
Terrible Battery life if you would even call it a life!! – Only bought one as I love my big Dyson vaccumn but this hand held machine is the biggest waste of money ever would be better off using a dustpan & brush least the mess would be cleaned up!!! The battery life on this thing is ridiculous!!! I was flat out getting 30 seconds out of it now 2 seconds!! not worth getting off the wall!!
The dc16 is the biggest piece of crap I have ever purchesd – Dyson should be ashamed to have there name the dc16 I have had problems shortly after I purchased it I have I have complained to dyson a lot of times on the phone I person offered me a different model for $89.00 so they know they having with the dc16 I guessthe like all the bad review poor company

Unreliable – After reading all these reviews, I'm wondering why Dyson have not recalled this model. I have the same model and am having the same issue with battery not lasting. first 18 months then the unit only ran for 30-40 seconds before it stopped. It’s gradually gotten worse and now I'm lucky to get 10 seconds run time before it stops. I know the cheaper brands don't last as we bought these in the past. Unfortunately, the truth of the matter is....i could have bought at least 4 cheaper units which only last 12 months each, this means I'm at least 2 years in front financially! not very happy and before anyone from Dyson replies with please call 1800.... to trouble shoot, I would like it on record that I have called twice over a couple of months and all the trouble shooting resulted in Dyson staff trying to sell me more filters, another battery and suggestions of purchasing a new charging unit as they suggested sometimes the charging unit failed and the charge rate dropped which meant the battery wasn't getting a full charge hence the shortening run time. All this at my expense mind you. After spending hundreds of dollars to buy the original unit. I'm not very impressed and my wife is even less impressed as she originally didn't want me to spend the extra $$ and wanted the usual brand hand held. Not happy. Any suggestions???
