Dyson DC34 Questions & Answers
VerifiedI have a DC34 which won’t charge. The green light is staying on but after a few hours there is still no power. Any suggestions?
can a dyson dc34 use the same type b battery as a dyson dc34 animal?
My Dyson 34 does not charge or turn on
What does it mean when the green light on the charger flashes intermittently? I thought it meant that the battery was dead, but I have purchased a new battery and still have the same issue (light on charger flashes intermittently). Please can you help?
My Dyson DC34 Animal hand-held vacuum operates for about 10-15 seconds, then it shuts off. At this time I release the trigger, and when I push the trigger button again, it works for about another 10 seconds and so on. This problem repeats. Do I need a new battery or is there something else wrong with it? If it is the battery which one do I need. I have Type B battery in there presently. I would prefer to purchase a battery from Dyson, however, they do not support this vacuum any longer.
Hi Edel, We haven't quite got enough information to fully diagnose if this is a battery issue as yet. Please reach out to our experts to troubleshoot further and discuss your options: external link Please be aware, this older machine is now a legacy model which can no longer be serviced and spare parts are limited. The Type B battery to suit this model is currently sold here on our website: external link
Green light on when press but vacuum not working
DC 34 not working despite the LEDs working and the battery is holding a charge. Any advice?
Can I leave the DC34 on charge continuously ?
Hi Patty, Thank you for your question. The DC34 has a smart charger meaning once fully charged it will go into a standby mode to not damage the battery or machine. We recommend leaving the machine on charge at all times when not in use so it is always ready to go.
Thank you very much for you reply !
Hi I have a hand held Dyson DC43H which is not holding its charge. I’m aware this product has been replaced with a DC43H Mattress. So to replace the battery for my one I have, what is the battery I need. Thanks Cath
My dc 34 keeps stopping after 5-10seconds every time I use it. I’ve cleaned it all thoroughly - is this due to the battery coming to end of its life as it’s now 8 years old?
Hi Chris, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately as with any product that uses a lithium-ion there is a finite lifespan on the battery. So we are able to discuss options available to you please reach out to our helpline via live chat, email or phone through external link

My DC34 works on low suction but when I press the max button it switches off after a few seconds. Any ideas?
Those symptoms suggest that the battery, even fully charged, is no longer able to deliver the current needed for the Max suction. I bought a new, aftermarket battery and proved the theory -- no problems on Max with the new battery. My DC34 started life with two new Dyson batteries, which I alternated in use, so they've both had the same service life and they both exhibit the failing performance on Max.
Thanks Colin I got new batteries and it now works fine
MY DC34 has died. Charger is flashing but presume motor or battery now the problem. Any suggestions?

what powers the dc34 motor head
The Dyson DC34 machine is powered by a lithium ion battery. For machines so equipped, the mini motorised head is powered by it's own motor. If we can assist further, our Dyson Experts are available via auaskdyson@dyson.com and happy to help.

Hi I've done all the cleaning and then some, still cuts out after 10 second bursts of cleaning constantly pressing the trigger over and over, this is one crappy product, cheap Chinese parts. What can you do to fix this issue that appears to be a chronic problem with this model Dyson,
We do apologise for any disappointment, this difficulty is likely to be either a restriction of airflow through the machine, or possibilty the battery (which is a consumable item) may be nearing the end of it's life.
We would encourage emailing auaskdyson@dyson.com with your details and we will only be happy to help and discuss the available options.
My Dyson works very well, holds charge, but will only remain 'on' for about 10 seconds before stopping. You can press the trigger again and it will go for another 10 secs then cuts out, this sequence can be repeated throughout the life of one battery charge. I have tried cleaning the contacts, but this makes no difference. Any ideas?
While the Dyson DC34 is now retired we no longer have an availability of spare parts, we'd still encourage you to contact us to for an opportunity to troubleshoot and diagnose this issue, and offer some ideas and other options for you.

My Dyson DC34 stopped working past week. I thought it was not plugged in but it was but I noticed the led on the charger was not on. I searched this site and tried pressing the button on the machine for 30 sec but no lights what so ever. I think I drained the battery after the charger died. Please can somebody tell me how to determine if I should buy a new charger or a new battery? Regards djacco
Hi! Bit of a tricky one, first I would try and get hold of a charger that u know that works and plug it in to the Dyson if still no lite, good chance it's a battery problem, secondly, is the battery in your DC34 removable? if so, the unit will need to be upgraded to a fixed battery, very common problem. Dyson will do an upgrade, IE they replace the complete back end motor/ battery unit, that will cure the problem of the machine cutting out when in use. Just had mine done, perfect now. PS a new charger is very cheap if needed. Regards, By the way, The Dyson people are very helpful if you get in touch with the.

Hi - my DC34 won't charge. The light doesn't come on, on the charger. What do you suggest?
Call them. They may ask you to do a few testing things and ask for photos. After that if not working they may ask to have it back for testing - if it’s poked they usually replace as they are a big company and it’s better for them to keep customers happy than have bad press
