The deck looks great when laid. But that’s it I’ve had the deck down for just over 6 months. Not sure what they mean by low maintenance. It’s stains but you can’t high pressure clean it and be careful what you clean it with. It scratches so easily, I can push my finger nail into it and it marks. Oh but how do you get all your outdoor furniture… Read more
scratches out of the deck, apparently with a heat gun. You can’t sand it like wood. If it means laying timber and having to reseal / stain your timber, I’d rather go back to that. At least you can pressure clean, sand out marks and the restain or seal it once a year or two maybe. Not sure how ekodeck will last 30 years. It might last but it will look like a dogs breakfast. For the price you pay, $143 x 5.4m with very similar maintenance as wood. Wood is cheaper, with similar look. I’d choose wood next time. My surface area was 40sqm
Installed our 90mm wide Ekodeck decking in 2013. I can't remember the colour but a bit like Mission Brown. I don't think you can get this variety anymore. 13 years on its still in excellent shape with some fading that could be likelyrestored with an abrasive clean (actually looks good anyway like that). Especially pleased as exposed to the… Read more
western sun. Only maintenance has been 2 or 3 cleanings due to the wet years we had 2020 to 2025. So glad we made this choice over timber.

Just finished our new home and needed a deck to go with it. Spent a good deal of time researching options before landing on Ekodeck's Designer Series. Deck is now done and dusted, and we're loving it. 50sqm of space that looks and feels fantastic. Show details

I have both ekodeck decking and screen installed 6 months ago, still loving them as they are low maintenance, we can just soap and hose them down with water to clean not worrying they will deteriorate in some way. I just wonder how warranty works. Show details
Better than wood. Don't have to worry about oiling. Very easy to install. Show details

We confidently recommend Ekodeck to anyone looking for a premium composite decking solution and look forward to continuing to work with the brand on future projects.

A great product to work with. What attracted me to this product was the 10 - 15 year warranty. Guaranteed not to warp, buckle or twist. Very low maintenance - warm soapy water and a broom. A good sharp blade on your mitre saw, leaves a great edge, no feathering - a good clean cut. Overall Ekodeck is a great product to use. Being dual sided, light… Read more
grey(Moonlight) on one side and dark grey (Nightfall)on the other, made laying out the deck more visible, a great appearance. I would recommend this product to anyone building a deck. Construction is very easy. The Ekodeck website is very useful, you can design you deck, and it informs you on the amount of boards and fixings required and cut lengths. I've had numerous comments on the finished job, all very positive
Looks great, easy to clean Good looking timber texture Adds value to the property Show details
Very easy to use. Constructed external alfresco as well as covered an existing concrete slab outside back door. Looks great and will use again. My son in law will use it as well for his new home after seeing what I have done. He said that he was impressed how I did it given I am over 70 years age. Have not yet finished as you can see from the photos as waiting for screen doors to arrive to complete. Show details

Great product easy to work with. Results were so good we built a second deck. Great product to level out the exit from the house with step removed from both sliding doors

I had great experience with Eckdeck customer services team. Adam was great help and he even did a FaceTime to talk me through. Installation was super easy, just do you good research on breaker board and how you want it lay out. Overall, easy and highly recommended. Show details
I wanted a small deck built on moving into my new townhouse.. did my research and decided composite decking was the go. I requested the Ekodeck samples from you.. engaged your recommended installer to do the job. Mark from Kaymar Construction did amazing job with my little project. Super happy with results.. spray of water to get rid of any dust or dirt. Great product.. highly recommend. Show details
We love our huge deck BUT the static electricity we get off it is crazy. We get zapped badly all the time we are on our deck. Show details · 2

After sampling various providers of composite decks we chose Echo deck We chose it for colour match to our project, availability of Flybuys points through Bunnings, it’s apparent strength, reasonable price, ease of delivery, the fact it does not need painting or staining, and it’s resistance to termites. We hired a builder to install and were… Read more
extremely pleased by the look, feel and overall match to our property. The second part of the project was to attach glass pool fencing. We found the echo deck does not take fixings very well and had to put further structural support to the house, across the top of the glass and the patio supports. We found the thin plastic coating on the ecodeck is easy to damage when a tool was dropped on the deck, resulting in gouged plastic. We used a soldering iron to melt back the gouge into shape. However are careful not to drop anything further on it - do not recommend this decking if you have young kids. Overall 8/10 - though based on the plastic coating, other providers may be better if you need a more hard wearing option.

Our builder did a great job of installing our deck and it looks good. The only issue I have is that it gets exceptionally hot underfoot. In hindsight I think we should have chosen timber, which we've used in previous homes. Show details
Follow-up · The deck gets so hot in Summer that you cannot walk on it in bare feet. We are not aware of any solutions to reduce the heat other than to ensure it is shaded, which in our case is not possible. We chose the product because it is made from recycled products.

UPDATE:#1 No further response from Ekodeck. I've added photos. I've written to ACCC and Qld Office of Fair Trading for advice., I also see a very similar review to mine, decking about the same age. ***END UPDATE #1*** So many reviews here, almost all positive, based on recently finished installs. to mine. My deck looked great too after I finished it. However, 5 years later, the decking hasn’t stood the test of time.
Ekodeck Classic “Red Rock” installed in 3 phases, South East Queensland. First phase (full sun) – medium sized – August 2020, $2725. Second Phase (some full sun, some full shade) – large size – May 2021, $6775. Third phase (partial sun)– small sized – November 2022, $1600. Investment over $11,000. All phases done with the ekodeck Quikfix clip system.
Initial issues April 2024. Noticed black mould on boards that are often wet. After brushing the mould off with water, there were streaks on the boards. The brushing generated a red mud the same colour of the decking. So not mould resistant, and not colourfast. I complained to Ekodeck and they sent a rep out who showed me how to clean the boards using ’30 seconds Mould Off’ (which contains bleach) and a brush. This seemed effective as it evened out the colour, however the boards were lighter in colour when it dried. I demonstrated to the rep how a wet white paper towel would come up red if I wiped the decking, particularity if it was in full sun. The rep advised this was due to ‘oxidisation’. Well that may be the cause but the effect is colour loss on ‘colourfast’ boards. I also demonstrated this did not occur on boards that are in constant shade and my take was that it is caused by UV. The boards are touted as UV resistant. A side note – a friend has the same decking around his pool. He gets red feet when walking across it if just out of pool.
Then 2 months ago, on the phase 2 boards, mould had developed and again I used a brush and water to clean them. It was strenuous work, again I got the red muddy water, but it seemed ok with no streaking. Now it has been a wet summer and surprise – the boards done 2 months ago already need cleaning again.
Also 2 months ago, on the phase 1 boards, I had to remove a section adjacent to the front entry door, to replace a support underneath that had gone soft. (When I put the boards back on, in the same order they were originally installed, they did not fit. The last board that used to fit against the door was larger than the remaining space. I tore it apart and again put the boards down in the same order and this still did not resolve the problem. I concluded the boards had expanded. So instead, I installed boards starting at the door, and had to extend the framing a bit to accommodate an extra half board at the other end. In doing so I had to acquire a new board, which is a much lighter “Red Rock” than the older existing boards.
Which gets us to the latest problem, can there be any others left? All of the boards on Phase 1 and 2 have developed ‘cupping’, which is where the long edges have curled up slightly. You can’t see it with the naked eye if they are dry, however they hold water on the surface after it rains and only dry with evaporation or manual wiping The new board installed in Phase 1 (mentioned just above) does not have this problem, it does not hold water after rain, but the boards adjacent to it do.
So to conclude: 1. The boards are not colourfast. Is the cause UV breakdown? 2. The boards are prone to developing mould if they are often wet. This mould is difficult to remove, which has now become necessary every few months. This is significantly more maintenance than painting a wooden deck once a year. 3. The boards can expand and can be problematic if removing and then reinstalling in the same space. 4. New replacement boards may have a significant colour mismatch. 5. The boards are prone to cupping, such that they retain rain water on the surface, exacerbating the mould issue.
Bunnings is the exclusive retailer of this product, which carries a 15 year warranty. On their website they state: Resistant to termites, rot, decay, mould and mildew Weather-resistant, Ekodeck's UV stable composition means it doesn't require the routine maintenance timber does to keep it looking and performing at its best - Ekodeck never needs any oiling, painting or sealing. Ekodeck Classic will never splinter, cup or twist and has a certified anti-slip rating of R11 and P5.
My experience is somewhat contradictory to these statements.
I would not recommend these boards. I chose them over wood expecting them to be less maintenance, and they are actually more maintenance. They are porous, not sealed and are prone to the problems mentioned above. The other ekodeck product ‘designer series’ appears to be a sealed, capped board, not porous, and perhaps not prone to the issues I’ve experienced. – though it is 20% more expensive.
Choose wisely.

Great product great result for lifetime – Excellent product, relatively easy to install BUT plan, plan, plan - then consider the plan , then plan again! Gets hot but noticeably much less than the merbau (possibly due to slightly… Read more · 1
lighter colour) additionally the composite designer series Not as slippery as merbau so these aspects are superior. I used the 6mm gap which has resulted in increased airflow under which will dry sub frame very well My sub frame is about 450mm clearance so no airflow issues. But the original install had no noggins and no water seal on joists. So 50% of the joists had rotted to fall through stage. I replaced joists and put rubber joist seal on all joists and fitted noggins (must) I had to have two portrait frames side by side and I should have used standard boards so that the alignment and fix down would be simpler. Also the sizing of each section was fixed and because the fixed width of boards means there was large gaps to in fill outside the portrait frame. Again I should have used standard boards to make it much easier but my order was delivered already. The end result is excellent and family is very happy - no more expensive (time, money) maintenance Thank you ekodeck

Love our ekodeck – Absolutely LOVE our Ekodeck! We decked the back patio, around the pool and a small patio at the front of the house. We also used the Ekoscreening for a gate and we are intending on using more of the screening to close in our pool pump and bins out the front. It was a lot easier to use than we thought, it cut nicely with a drop saw, even when we… Read more · 1
had to use a jigsaw to cut wround our pool lid, it all cut nicely and with a tiny bit of sanding you can't even tell its cut. Me and my husband are quite handy, but not tradies and would work with it again. My favourite part is that we don't have to maintain it at all, which is a huge bonus as when we built a deck for our first house with timber, staining/oiling the deck yearly was a nightmare. We love the look it gives our house and intend to use the some of the off cuts to make some steps out the front. It does get a bit hot in the sun, but its no different to when we had pavers or plain timber at our old house. The only negative we had was we ordered it in March last year and had to wait 2 months to get it, but that was a Bunnings distribution centre issue and we are all the way up in Far North Queensland, it certainly was worth the wait though, I love our outdoor area.

I now have a very large ekodeck deck' size 12 x 4.3m installed. I picked the backbeach designer series composite decking instead of oiled blackbutt hardwood and am so glad I did. The deck looks modern & terrific place to entertain. It is very easy to keep clean & does not need maintaining. A builder bought & installed the decking. Show details
I am sure it will be a great addition to my courtyard but the smell of the materials is very strong- didn’t really register that this would be the case but it is manufactured materials… hoping that the off gassing diminishes quickly. The smell is so strong I can’t/don’t want to open any windows…! Show reply
Great product, looks smart, only downside is heat on sunny days make it impossible to walk on with bare feet. Not cheap but in the long run saves on painting and oiling. Show details

I used the sanded finish Red Rock. At the end of the process I was 3 boards short and couldn't get any more of the same colour. Now I have 3 darker boards which serve as a permanent reminder of Bunnings inability to supply. This doesn't look good for Ekodek, in future I'll look elsewhere. Show details
Very disappointed in product - lots of scuff marks and scratches/ gouges just from install. Went with it as said scratch resistant but definitely isn’t - wish I had just gone with merbau now and would have been a lot cheaper Show details

Don’t buy the BAL-rated version – The product is “incomplete.” There are no end caps so you have to route them yourself. This is INCREADIBLY messy and difficult. Why they have not produced the capping boards like the other models is a mystery. I would not use this for BAL rated applications again. Otherwise - it is a good product. Show details

Back in October, I installed a small deck in full sun using this material. Despite several 40 plus degree days since there has been no fading or warping of the decking. It's as good as new and looks great. Very happy so far. Show details
