Elecbrakes have been a great product. I have been using the remote control Bluetooth accessory with them for the last 18 months. Noticed lately the screen had dimmed down to a point where it was barely visible. Contacted Elecbrakes. Sent it to them for testing. They replaced remote all within a week and a half. Great product and service. Show reply

I purchased the controller from BCF, and the box advertised a “10-minute install.” However, once I got home and opened the box, I realised it didn’t include the necessary cable—you have to buy that separately. There should be a clear note next to the “10-minute install” claim stating that a separate cable is required. I returned to BCF to buy the… Read more

cable, installed the unit, and it worked for about 30 minutes before all the trailer lights went out and the unit stopped functioning completely.

When I went back to exchange the unit, BCF told me they weren’t sure if they could offer a refund or replacement because it had been used for half an hour. They said I would need to wait for a response from Elecbrakes before they could do anything.

Now I’m left with no working controller and no refund. I’ve lost trust in this product and the customer service involved—I’ll be looking for a different brand from now on.

Good old fashioned Aussie customer service! I was having issues with the Bluetooth (brakes still operated perfectly - it just wasn’t showing in the app) outside of the warranty period and Elecbrakes offered to test the unit for free. When they found the fault, they replaced the unit free of charge and express posted it back to me. Highly recommend this company to anyone! Show reply

I gave it 2 stars because the unit was good when it worked for the first few times we used it, did what it was supposed to do. Now the unit will not connect to the remote or the App. Done all the trouble shooting it says to do, yeah nothing, I would say the unit is fried. Will be going a fixed system, won't waste money buying this product again.

Superb product – Easy to setup and works well on construction box trailer. It has been set and forget. I just change Program depending on the weight I’m carrying. Love how the braking is progressive as you push harder on the brake, the trailer brakes harder. Genius invention.

Unreliable and dangerous units – Have purchased 2 units and remote control. Very unsafe when your towing 3.5t on the back and the brakes stop working and can't connect again. 1 unit won't connect at all now, has been unreliable from the very start. Would not recommend if your towing all the time, can't beat the hard wired units. I have wasted close to $2000 and will be going back to the rearc systems.

Great product and support! – I have had the Elecbrakes unit on my van for over 4 years and it has worked well. The remote would not connect 3 days ago so I call Elecbrakes and they advised me to send it to them. I sent it on Monday from Albany in WA and it is now Wednesday. They have sent me a message saying they have tested the old one, it has a fault so they will replace it… Read more

with a new one free of charge. I receive notification just now from the courier that it's on the way. Wow, if only every company provided this level of customer service. Thanks Elecbrakes for a great product and support!

Good Unit and Works – I just installed the Elecbrake EB2 Controller on my Jayco Swan. I previously used the predecessor Elecbrake ELBC 2000. I found that the EB2 is slightly bigger and has only holes, not long holes to screw the Controller to the drawbar. Personally, I prefer the long holes as you don't have to be too accurate when drilling the holes for the screws.… Read more

The connection as promised by the EB2 that you just have to hold your phone onto it didn't work (even with BT, WIFI and NFC switched on on my mobile). However, connecting manually was no problem and the unit worked when I tested it afterwards. I usually like to remove the controller from the Caravan when I don't use it, but found that the screws strip quickly. Also the Box from the previous model is flat and makes it easier to store, this box is a hexagon and a bit awkward to store the controller in. All in all it is a good unit and I hope I get good use out of it for the next few years.

Failure to connect on bluetooth – Unit is about 1 year old - worked perfectly until I tested it today and it wouldn't make a blue tooth connection to remote or phone. How do I know whether the unit is working or not? (I think it is supposed to retain the old settings). Ofcourse with no bluetooth there is no override.

Bluetooth was faulty and unit replaced by Elecbrakes - well handled in the end.

Do not buy – Did not work at all from time of install. App connected straight away didn't have drop out issues it just didn't work (even dialed up to 100). I had a caravan service centre and my auto elec both look at it to make sure it wasn't my car or user error, both agreed it was a faulty product. Now much fun having a 2.5 tone caravan pushing your car… Read more

down a hill without brakes. To add to this elecbrakes won't refund until they assess the unit and determine the cause, given its plug and play can't see how you can get it wrong. So now they have my money, the unit and no time limit on assessment period.

Good concept but just fails to deliver – The unit is simple to install and seems like it would be fairly resilient. However, the connectivity is terrible and the brakes work intermittently. The app frequently disconnects and for an added bonus it drops out every time you depress the brake pedal. In summary it’s a pile of garbage and I wouldn’t recommend installing it on a car for any reason whatsoever. Do not recommend, would give zero stars.

Was great now terrible – Worked well for about a year. Then mid drive the unit lost connection with my phone. Have troubleshooted everything. Used a different phone to connect, checked all plugs. There’s a fault with the unit and I’m now stuck in the middle of nowhere (Fitzroy crossing of all places) with no brakes!!!

Elecbrakes Brake Controller and large boat trailers – I purchased an Elecbrake brake controller, together with a remote controller and a plug and play connector - all up price close to $1k. My reason for buying is that I like the concept, particularly with a new vehicle planned for next year and although more expensive than a standard brake controller, thought it would be a good fit. It was to go on… Read more

a new boat trailer (tandem axle and with a brake actuator, not a triple axle or over 4.5 tonne per the website guidance). I read the complete website and there was nothing to suggest it would not work with my vehicle. The main thing that induced me to purchase was the claim that there would not need to be any electrical work on my tow vehicle. There is a simple selector on the purchase site that asks you the plug type on the car and on the trailer - in my case it was 12 pin on trailer and 7 pin on car - and there was no caution that this may not work. To cut a long story short when I tried to hook it up, the brake actuator failed to operate. It turns out that any boat trailer with an actuator requires power to the trailer. The owner was helpful and responsive on the phone in explaining what was required to the auto electrician but it was clear that I needed to get my vehicle modified (changing 7 pin to 12 pin) adding additional cost, not to mention inconvenience, and pretty much negating my reason for purchase. What was extremely frustrating was that the company is well aware of this problem (apparently it happens frequently) and yet does not include any warning/caution on the website and does not believe it has any responsibility to do so. The controller is pretty disappointing. The battery apparently does not hold a charge for more than 5 hours, which means you pretty much have to use it with an electrical connection the whole time. I wish that I had simply stuck with the app - probably the worst battery powered device I have encountered. Once running, the controller is fine and seems to be doing its job, although the remote unit continually loses connection but in terms of boat trailers, the website is both incomplete and misleading. The Elecbrake brake controller seems to be fine for caravans but if you are intending to use for a boat trailer with an actuator for the braking system, strongly suggest you look elsewhere unless your car is already wired up with a 12 pin plug.

Electric Brake Controller - so easy to install and set up in 15mins! – I was looking for an easy brake controller to install on my pop-up camper so there is no need for the tow vehicle to have a dedicated hard wired brake controller and came across https://www.elecbrakes.com/. An Australian company based in Sydney with an exceptional product. I purchased my unit through Camplify Australia but you can purcahse from… Read more

local suppliers also listed on the Elecbrakes.com website or directly from Elecbrakes.

Elecbrakes (yes one word) is a proportional trailer brake controller enhanced by their app on your smart phone. I purchased the "Plug and Play" version of this product with a 7 flat pin to 12 flat pin adapter plug. I chose the adapter option to suit my needs. Elecbrakes also sell the unit as a hardwire option that you need to wire directly to the trailer loom if you'd like.

The unit is pricey but for what you spend in money you surely save in time! When I say pricey the unit alone costs more that other brake controllers on the market but if you factor in the cost of an auto electrician to hard wire a controller to your tow vehicle you'd probably be spending the same amount of money or even less with this Elecbrakes unit. Then there's the time your tow vehicle is at the auto electrician also to consider.

I ordered the unit and additional (optional) adapter plug to suit my purpose. They have various 7 and 12 pin configurations in both flat and round (small and large) plug varieties so you're sure to get the plug that suits your needs. Elecbrakes invite you to contact them if you require an additional user specific configuration. The Elecbrakes website has a great FAQ section to answer your specific questions.

3 Days later my pack arrived via AusPost and upon opening the boxes there is a controller unit with 4 mounting screws, apaptor plug as ordered and instruction manual. That's it!

The instructions are easy to understand and literally in 15mins I had mounted the unit and testing the brakes - yes 15 mins! If you can drill 4 straight holes and use a screwdriver you are qualified to install the "Plug and Play" unit. I kept thinking it had to be more complicated that what I was presented with.

For the Elecbrakes unit to work with the Plug and Play option the trailer lights need to be on as it draws power from your car trailer plug wiring to power the unit and engage the brakes. If your lights are not on you cannot connect to the bluetooth connection the unit requires. The Plug and Play unit has a deutsch connector plug so you connect this to your adapter to power the unit. The adapter sits between the tow vehicle socket and the trailer plug. This would not be needed if you were hard wiring the the unit to the trailer.

The Elecbrakes unit is a sealed construction. There are no user servicable parts inside and you wouldn't want to get inside as it is a plastic construction (front) and a resin flexable gel type substance on the rear. The rear will be mounted to the camper A-bar so it is weather sealed nice and tight. You can mount the Elecbrakes unit top, bottom or side of the A-bar and it should be reasonably straight and horizontal. The unit will work out it's mount angle during calibration. More on that following....

The adapter plug is a quality construction as well. When it comes to towing safety you need quality. The standard plug also has the additional deutsch connector that is used for the Plug and Play version with 1.5m of cable to reach the unit.

Connnect your tow vehicle to the trailer as you would normally.

Download the Elecbrakes app to your smart phone (iOS and Android) and pair this with the controller mounted on your caravan. The app is simple to use and set up is literally included in the 15mins I spoke of earlier. The app pairs with the unit so there is no need to go into your phone bluetooth setting and pair the unit manually.

There are 5 braking programs available in the app and all are customisable to your needs. All braking programs are proportional meaning the harder you depress your brake pedal the more braking force is applied. Any customisations you make are stored in the unit. If your phone goes off the unit remembers your settings so you can still safely tow. The 5 factory programs range from gentle braking to a more aggressing braking style engaging the trailer brakes harder to slow the towing vehicle and trailer.

Your phone should be in a cradle (you should have a cradle anyway) when travelling so it is in easy access for manual braking if needed. A great feature if you're travelling down hill and feel the trailer is pushing your tow vehicle.

Presented on screen is a big red circle. Press your brake pedal and the circle turns bright red. Take your foot off the brake and it's dull red. You can engage the trailer brakes by tapping the circle. Tap to disengage. You can access proportional braking to add more force when driving down hill as I mentioned above. Press the circle and slide your finger up your phone screen to proportionally add more braking force to the trailer brakes.

The 5 customisable braking programs can be further customised by naming them something that is meaningful to you to reflect for instance "Empty" or "Heavy" to let you know the braking force that you've set.

The unit self calibrates for set-up. Drive on a flat straight road and apply the brakes moderately for 4 - 5 seconds and confirm the settings in the app. You're now right to drive. The instructions could not be simplier.

All instructions are included in the product installation guide. The guide is a very easy read and as I said at the start you'll have the brake unit installed and be ready to go in 15mins.

This could not be easier. This product is simply amazing and if you've ever had a hard wired controller installed you'll now be asking yourself why?
