Have bought 3 of these with the so called promise of 10 year trouble free warranty.None of them have lasted any longer than 2 years .An expensive exercise have had no problem with the cheaper ones in the past
No good steer clear – Poor wire connector doesn't hold in place securely. Alarms beep all the time from the first moment they were connected. Glad to find these reviews before trying to persevere with these things. Seems everyone is having the same problems.
Don’t get one – Beeps within minutes of plugging battery in I changed battery did all things recommended it still goes off so throwing it out and hope the house doesn’t burn down in the meantime

Just don't buy – Brand new and beeps like a champion.... best annoyance gift for all your enemies. I bought this to annoy a person I don't like.... it churps and goes off all the time... best prank to can play.... unless their house burns down because they need to disconnect the device.
Goes off for no reason – Landlord installs new Family First alarm in middle of house away from windows. 6 months later, false alarms in the middle of the night. No smoke. No cooking. No showering. Replace battery, same problem. Landlord replaces it with another Family First alarm, week later, false alarms are back. Infuriating

Terrible product – This alarm goes off during the night for no reason at all. We thought it was a faulty product so replaced with a new one from Bunnings and are having the same issue of it going off randomly. We've had to take them down to actually get sleep at night which is a major safety concern. Will be purchasing another brand. Don't waste your time, money and… Read more
potentially endanger your family's safety with this product. It's not a cheap product either. Wish I'd seen these reviews before purchasing.
Family first FFP2 240V H2 smoke alarm – After about 4 years, the alarm went at night for no apparent reasons. I removed it and thought of ordering a new one via Bunnings. After reading all the reviews, I have my second thoughts now!.
Poorly designed – Small clip broke on both units. The clip that you remove the mains power to then change the battery. The plug rests down into it so I glued one and just left the other..
Awful, more dangerous than no alarm – Bought a twin unit from Bunnings less than 12 months ago. Less than 3 months old, removed the first one installed as it kept going off at all times of the day and night for no apparent reason. Replaced with the second unit and after a few months, it now goes off at all times of night and day especially after rain. Never had a positive alarm… Read more
yet. Now after a week of sleep deprivation because of false alarms all through the early hours of each morning and no idea about daytime as I'm not home, looking to replace rather than ignore or lie awake waiting for it to go off. Spouse simply doesn't stir on sound of alarm after so many false alarms.
How do Bunnings still sell this product – With a 1 star out of 32 reviews, and one overly kind person gave it stars, why would Bunnings still sell them. It makes me reluctant to buy anything in regards to safety from them. The 240volt clip with this product is beyond a Joke, it doesn't stay in whatsoever, with years of selling this same product, you would think something as important as… Read more
holding mechanism that ensures a device that could save someone's life, will work correctly and not just pop out. If I could give it minus 5 I would
If I could give zero stars I would – DO NOT BUY Make sure you read the reviews from others. These are faulty. They change the sizing so you can't just simply replace. This company should be put out of business!!!
Faulty battery – I purchased 2 of these smoke detectors from Bunnings in September 2019 and my electrician son-in-law installed them. On 9/11/2020 the one on the 12' ceiling outside my bedroom door started cheeping & flashing at 3am. It stopped cheeping at approximately 5.30am. It did not chirp throughout the day. It repeated chirping at 3am on 10/11/2020. I've… Read more
had to purchase a replacement & pay to have it fitted as my son-in-law now lives 4 hours drive away. So much for 10 year guarantee.
Out of the Box. terrible smoke alarm – battery was fully charged but the test did not work out of the box. Then a small chirp then test worked then it didn't then it chirped all by itself. Bunnings needs to replace their purchasing people for even getting this into their stores.
Supplied with flat battery – Bought a family first smoke detector for the kitchen. Wished I had read these reviews first. It was supplied with a flat battery. How this company continues to supply Bunnings is beyond my comprehension. Choose another, reliable reputable company.
If I could give MINUS 5 STARS I would – Sama as everyone else says, terrible and shouldn't be sold. Bought 5 and all gave false alarms and beeping through the night in the first year. Replaced four of them and still getting false alarms at 3am. The company says you need to vacumm them once a month, what joke and makes no difference. Just as angry at Bunnings for selling such garbage. Don't buy them
Rubbish – Bought three of these all at once, first one went off in the middle of the night and had to take a hammer to it to get it to stop. The second one just beeps all the time and the third one doesn't respond to the test function. Bunnings should not be selling this junk especially when it could mean someone's life.
Waste of money – We bought 2 x family first smoke alarms from Bunnings when we moved into our new home less than 6 months ago. After 3 months, 1 of the alarms regularly started beeping for no reason. Then just a few weeks later the 2nd alarm started regularly beeping for no reason. We had to throw both alarms in the bin. They are garbage, don't waste your money.
My own experience confirms this product is rubbish – Bought a new Family First smoke alarm (10 years battery life - a big factor in my buying this model!) from Bunnings yesterday and installed it as per directions this morning in the hallway, where previous alarms have been. They have never given trouble. Five minutes after installation, this unit started beeping furiously. Out to the shed to bring… Read more
back the ladder, climbed up and pushed the hush/test button. Silence. Thought maybe it was "just one of those things", climbed down and returned ladder to the shed. Ten minutes later bipping started again. Once more went out to the shed, got the ladder, climbed up and removed the unit. Resisted impulse to smash it into tiny pieces with a hammer, as I am about to drive to Bunnings for a refund. "No, I don't want a replacement. '' I note from responses to previous complainants that dust, dead spiders, hot weather etc can cause problems, but this is a brand new unit (manufactured January 2020), straight out of the packet, and it's a mild autumn day. I wish I had read these reviews before buying the product, but as I had got it from Bunnings I just assumed it was OK - I have never had problems with Bunnings products. Unfortunately the rating scale doesn't allow me to give the unit a zero rating. In fact, it deserves less than zero, as we are now without a safe smoke alarm. What do I do? Any suggestions?
A product that does not live up to its promise – Reading through the other reviews, it looks like a pattern. The device does not live up to the promises of life expectancy. The chirping has started and won't stop. I have cleaned, it, change to a new battery and reset the device by pressing the test button for 20 seconds. I then looked at the manufacture date and it's almost 5 years old, yet I… Read more
only bought the device a little over 3 years ago.
Disappointing that so may people have complained about the product yet the Family First company does not take responsibility and Bunnings continues to sell this product.
Hopefully I can replace it for another brand as I won't be purchasing this device again.
10 yr battery lasts 4 if you're luck – 5 installed mid 2016 (Brisbane and from Bunnings). Two of the remaining started chirping within 48 hrs of each other. One still running (mar 2020). 10yr lithium battery a joke.
Waste of money – Replaced all our smoke alarms with family first. Been up a week and 3 false alarms already. Waste of money. Will be replacing them all as my children are so scared of the alarm now.
Hi Charmaine. Sorry about the false alarms, but… Read more (+1 reply)
FFPACHI faulty – After a 41 degree day the smoke alarm started going off around 10pm. So I check for smoke / fire and none is found so I reset it . 10 minutes it goes off again so I reset it again. After the third false alarm I uninstalled the device. We have another one of the same model still installed so we have coverage but Now I’m waiting for that one to fail as well.

Lasted less than a year before constant error beeps – There are no reviews for the Family First model FFCM9VH so I'll leave mine here. I can't remember where I bought it so I can't pursue the three-year warranty, but this is a crappy product. Way less than a year old and it's started chirping three times a minute, which fits the manual's description for malfunction. I've tried several batteries and nothing changes. Strongly NOT recommended.

The worse quality – Same as the other reviews above. It goes off with no reason. Very bad product, don't waste your money. Ten years warranty, they will give you $29, but you need to pay an electricity again!!!

Useless – Bought 3 of these alarms & 2 of them constantly go off for no reason. Don't waste your money, shocking brand. Have to pay for replacements & electrician to refit. Not impressed.

Faulty smoke alarm – June 2018 i purchased 2 Family First smoke alarms from Bunnings. Nine months later 1 keeps going off. I’ve tried 2 new batteries but I’m going to now have to return them and pay again for an electrician to install again. Not happy.
Totally substandard: here’s why – Bought 3 Family First FFP240VH2 smoke alarms from Bunnings Mile End and had them installed by a licenced electrician. On of the units proved outright faulty (kept alarming) but not before the electrician had spent 1.5 hours sorting it out. I paid for that 1.5 hours. Bunnings gave me a replacement (a 1 hour round trip). The problem seemed solved.… Read more
Not so, three months later the alarms started going off at ever increasing frequency despite two full battery changes. From about once a week three months ago to three times today.
The units are grossly inferior: the hinge for the unit to swing down for battery changes is feeble and fragile.
The “Slide To Open” button hardly moves and does not respond reliability to release the catch to allow opening.
As for the raised plastic letter words that are instructions for use ie “SILENCE “, “TEST” and “Slide To Open” they are unreadable when the units are attached on the ceiling, exactly where they should be readable when they go off with such frequent false alarms!! But the brand name “Family First” is large and dark painted!!! How cynical is that...
The product and its faults puts my family last. It’s a pity I couldn’t give it a zero star rating.
Lets make in Australia Again It does make a noise – We woke up 3am 7/12/2018. A false Alarm? Family First bought, around June/July 2018, 4 alarms but only put one up to many. I am nearly deaf? so my wife was the one to awake me. I will go down to see our local hardware store to see if this is a regular false ALARM? The others are still in package. These safety items, well everything, should be made in Australia Again. This alarm replacement date 25/01/2028 ???
Garbage wish I googled it earlier! – I had the same problem reported on this page. Beeping every 20 minutes no events and constant false alarm. What a thing to not get right when lives are at stake. I've had them shelved now for over a year and just refound them so thought I would look up the problem.
The smoke alarm keeps going off without any fire or dust – These fire alarms are very low quality and keep giving faulse alarms. Bought the alarm from Bunnings about 5 months ago. Had to cut the red wire to stop the alarm after many faulse alarms. Do not buy these alarms.
Family first smoke detecter... Beeping for not reason at all – I'm having exactly the same problem started going off in the mid of the night. Only purchased from Bunnings about four months ago. It's started beeping for not reason at all. Tried the reset button and still it going off about every 15-20 minutes. The annoying thing is... I can't even open it up, without the fear of breaking the unit. Still trying to figure out a solution, that's why I'm there.
Just phoned the manufacturers: 1). Make sure the battery is good. 2). Hold the 'Reset Button'… Read more
Interconnect doesnt work, company won't assist – We purchased from bunnings 7 units to get in with the law, didnt get my brother who is a sparky round for about 6 months, he ran a new circuit as it said, connected them and they would go off their tree, we rang the company multiple times who sid we did something wrong, well for my brother a sparky and me and ex restricted no wires were wrong, the… Read more
new isolator and cable to the mains was correct, so we isolated one at a time to find out which one played up but could never find it, so in the end we just disconnected the interconnect, now not even 3 months on and they are chirping flat batteries, they are all going back to bunnings when I find the reciept, we will upgrade to PSA or Clipsal, never again, keep away from this cheap crap your family deserves it.
False alarm – For no particular reason one of the Family First alarms in a loungeroom went off when we were at work. What a drama that became to get home and admittedly gladly at the time found no cause. We bought these from Bunnings for the whole house and like so many other people will have to replace them all. They are also very difficult to change the batteries. Waste of money.
Waste of my hard earned money – Bought 6 alarms from Bunnings. All alarms go off at night. No rhyme or reason. Bitterly disappointed in the quality. I have thrown them all in the bin, and replaced with other brands with no more problems.
Nuisance alarms – These are terrible. They started alarming the night after installing them, so definitely wasn't dust. They've been going off every few days since then. Surprisingly the baby sleeps through it. They even go off when they're sitting on the bench! 3 months later I've taken all 5 off the ceilings and finally pulled the last battery out because I've had enough.
