I have been a user of findmypast.com for many years now. I have noticed that upon resubscribing this month, the names of the subscriptions have changed. What was named "Starter" is now "Family Tree". While the cost is the same ($19.99 per month), and I still have access to birth and marriage transcripts, I am no longer able to view death… Read more
transcripts. Or electoral roll records.
It seems that I am now expected to pay for the next tier up; "Everything". For $48.99 per month.
This is an exorbitant amount of money to expect customers to pay, when it was only considered general basic paid access just weeks ago.
This is unfair and unreasonable pricing, and I'm disgusted.
I'm hoping that this is all an error, but with the way the world is going, it seems even genealogy services aren't safe from screwing customers over, and feeding the pigs at the top.
It is ignorant for them to think that the good people that have been using their service won't notice, and share my frustrations. Their reputation is at stake.
Their company lost a loyal customer today. Be prepared to lose many more. ---
Here is a blunt response from FindMyPast:
Thank you for your email.
We now offer the Family Tree or Everything subscription.
The Everything subscription provides access to all of the records we hold on the site.
I am sorry you are unhappy with the changes and I will certainly pass on your comments as feedback.
Kind Regards Sophie
Family history and Find my Past RIP OFF! – Recently I searched for the 1921 English census which was to be released in January this year. However discovered that UK archives have done a deal with FIND MY PAST.com. And findmypast.com.au It seems one has to subscribe to their company to access these records with a discount of one does otherwise pay a fee of $4.80 to view one record,… Read more
hopefully the right one. If finding it is the correct record and Finding it is a transcript summary And wanting to view The CENSUS PAGE On attempting to access this another box pops up asking for another $6+ ?
How about consumer affairs gets onto this as there are many people in Australia researching their family history as advertised on TV via various programs. As for Ancestry. com.au They cannot provide access to this record as deal done between UK archives And FMP? Public records sold off to private enterprise?
