Edge 520 Failure of Water Tightness Barrier – I owned an Edge 520 for 2 years (Nov 22 to Nov 24) until it gave up on me. What happened over the last 6mths is that I started to see "patches/ discolouring" around the screen edges. As it turned out this was an indication that the water tightness of the screen to computer body was beginning to fail. When I did my final ride it was in the rain… Read more
and when I got home the Garmin was frozen. I could not reset etc so I had to look for another bike computer.
Improving all the time – Garmins are the go to for many athletes and the products are always improving. Edge 520 is quite good and my choice because I did not want touch screen which I think is harder to deal with on a bicycle. It's quite easy to operate once you learn the functions and the reasonably large menu. Best to look at and learn while sitting on your lounge,… Read more
not on your bike. Make sure you buy one with attachments as buying that separate is costly. It pairs well with other Garmin products and sensors and responds well to updates and links well to the app which always records data.
Great device – I researched a lot of these and settled on the 520 due to it not being touch screen (avoid possible issues when raining) and cost and ability to program training sessions which can be quite complex. Features are better than I expected, the amount of devices I could use to enhance my training and style sessions is great. And it works. Haven’t had a… Read more
sync issue, battery life is great, and I can set the display types to see what I want, or have pages of them and scroll thru. I’d like a bit more flexibility in programming the training sessions, but it does do what I want.
Heaps of data and compatible with Strava – Great unit with bright display, very easy to pair with any garmin sensor, instant upload of data when connected to your phone to garmin connect or strava, very accurate with data with speed, cadence, heart rate and elevation, simple to update on your computer, battery live not the best for long rides and it starts dropping between the second and third year
Generally reliable but cannot replace the battery – This is a great computer, far more reliable than others I've used, although it has started freezing at the end of a ride, but I've not lost the data, just held the power off button for 10 seconds and it reboots with all the data. I've noticed the battery life deteriorating and it's less than two years old. So here's the problem, I cannot change… Read more
the battery - ONLY GARMIN CAN FIX THIS! So basically after spending $500 I now find that Garmin want even more money to fix the battery. I'm really disappointed so beware, always check to see if you can change the battery yourself.
Summary - great computer - disappointing customer service.
