Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard

Good guitar. Has character. Cool colour - lemon burst. I roll the tone off a bit and it sounds good. I have also put metal covers on the pickups. Stays in tune.
Overpriced but ok – I bought one similar to this. It was the Standard Plus. It did have a chambered body and a-symetrical neck, but was still very heavy, and too heavy for me so I sold it. Honestly, I don't think there's a new guitar on the market worth $4,500, or what they ask for these Gibsons. The 'pleking' system they use on the modern Gibsons apparently gives a… Read more
true set up, but it also leaves lines, grids, scratches, sharp and rough bits that shouldn't be there. At the price Gibson asks, I would expect the guitar to be hand finished, not machine! Gibsons are NOT made by luthiers, they are made by process workers. Someone makes the body then passes it on. Someone else makes a bit and sticks it on. Yes, they are a good 'working' guitar out of the box, but you can put something better together yourself with the electronics and pups you like.
I have a 2007 Standard – I have a 2007 Standard so it's a little different. For starters I don't think it's body is chambered because it weighs a ton. The finish is a little rough in spots ( file marks on neck binding, couple of rough fret edges ), but overall the playability is great. Neck pickup is sweet but the bridge needed to be a little hotter hence I replaced it… Read more
with a Duncan Distortion and now I'm happy.
Does the price reflect the workmanship/quality......? Yes and no. I have a couple of ESP LTD 1000 guitars made in Korea that cost a third of the price of the Les Paul but play every bit as good and are better finished, but in the end I am still caught up in the hype of " it's a Gibson man ". So if it was stolen tomorrow would I replace it.......? I probably would. Playability, sustain, iconic status. Bridge pickup too mild, rough finishing in places, a little over priced
