Harbour Town

Used to visit Harbour Town regularly when on holidays but have been very disappointed on recent visits. Seems to have gone 'up market' when it used to be more a factory outlet style collection of shops. Now I wonder why I bother to visit and probably wont do so in the future. May as well go to my local shopping centre if there are no bargains to be had. Very disappointing!!
HARBOUR TOWN, GOLD COAST, QUEENSLAND.......ASIAN GROCERIES OUTLET – As I live about a 40 minute drive from Harbour Town at Biggera Waters on the Gold Coast I rarely venture to this complex. However, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, I made the trip. I visited the (Exotic) Asean Groceries outlet (located close to Woolworths) and selected three bowls (one ceramic and two Melamine) and two packs of frozen wontons for… Read more
short soup. At the checkout I requested a receipt, the woman serving me asked for $47.95 - which I thought was rather high but paid in cash.
When I arrived home and checked the receipt (the register could do with the ink being replaced) I noticed that my detailed receipt had an additional item added - fish balls for $8.99. I did not purchase any fish balls!!!!!!!! Nice try!
My total cost should have been $38.96 - a 25% plus (i.e. $8.99) addition to my bill makes me question the honesty of the store and would advise if you visit this store, you always ask for a receipt, check the receipt before you pay, and do not pay until you confirm what the correct final cost should be.
Last night when speaking to a friend to who regularly visits Harbour Town, Gold Coast, she reminded me that local residents are aware of this practice of overcharging at this outlet.
Should I ever venture to Harbour Town in the future, I would be advising anyone in the store to check their change at the checkout and be aware of this practice.

It has really lost its appeal the last 3 years – I used to go there all the time, but the last 3 years it has really lost its appeal. There are more bargains online. I much prefer the ambience provided at other centres.
Very poor product and service, staff make rude comments about costumers at their back – Went in my son’s Oakley sunglasses (only six months old) with manufacturer issues. I have been told that they will replace it, and I was sent back to get my son so that he can be fitted with new pair. I came back with my son and another staff member started making excuses, was not ready to listen to anything. Anyway we left the store and walked… Read more
away with our old pair. I had to go back to the shop as we accidentally left our sunglasses case in the shop, when I went back these 2 staff members were talking about us in a very rude manner. And when I asked about the case he got very rude and stated you are wasting our time. Never expected this type of service and product from Oakley. Will never recommend or buy anything from Oakley especially from this store.
Bottom of the Harbour – We decided to go to Harbour Town in Perth but were very disappointed. The ambience is lacklustre and stark. People seem be wandering around to shops that don't have much to offer. The only two things that we purchased were parking which was exorbitant, and luch at Shimizu Japanese Restaurant. The meals were one Katsu Don and one Oyaka Don. They… Read more
were terrible, badly presented and stale. The chicken had been re-heated a number of times.
We won't be going to Harbour Town again.
Poor offerings, nothing special expensive parking and a terrible meal at the Japanese restaurant there.
And they wonder why people shop on the internet!!! – This is my experiences with retail shopping just in the past few weeks. If anything pushes me towards buying solely on the internet, these are the reasons why... 1) My daughter lives way out west of Qld. She came up to Brisbane, and we went shopping at Harbour Town. She bought a pair of well known branded runners. She arrived home - and… Read more
shoes are 2 different sizes. I rang the store, who simply asked me to bring them back for a return. Yeah? hey were 508 kms away, and I still live 160 kms from store!! I had to fight over numerous phone calls, to get the shoes sent back, and returned to my daughter, at stores cost.
2) Went into a major store to purchase an item that was in a locked glass cabinet. But - couldn't purchase it as no-one had the key to open it!!
3) Purchased some undies at a major chain store... Get home, and 1 pair of the undies had a security tag on it!! So had to driver back 32 kms, and return, to get tag off. Wasted nearly 2 hours of my time, and my petrol, and all store says is 'sorry'. Their excuse? - 'the security mustn't have been working that day'. No offer of any compensation.
4) Purchased some items at a chain store - at check out, screen that shows details, was out of order. Checked later - and 4 out of 7 items had been over priced. Perhaps that's why they don't want people to view what they are swiping?
5) I get so sick and tired of seeing an item saying 'reduced 50% - price reduced at check out'. I have lost count of the number of times this has not happened. Again, I reckon it is a deliberate attempt to rip off customers. Because if it has done it for me, it has done it for other buyers. If buyers before me had pointed out the problem, wouldn't they have corrected it? Or did they just hope no-one would complain?
6) Took my car in for a service. Driving it home - and heard a funny rattling knocking noise. Found that one of my headlight protectors was loose, actually ready to fall off. 2 out of 4 clips that hold it in place were totally missing (cannot be removed unless bonnet is opened). Service centre said wasn't their fault. I can't get clips - have to buy whole new set, cost well over $150. I've had my car since new over 14 years, and these clips have never been loose before.
7) Some work pants weren't available in my size, so asked for store to get some in so that I could try them on. But - store wanted me to pay for them in full, even before order! I said no. If they had been in stock, I wouldn't have had to pay for them to try them on.
8) Same pants were in one store for $40 - but also not in my size. Went to another store - had them - but for $68!! Wouldn't buy them from store 2.
9) Wanted two tyres for my bike. Local store - quoted me $154 for the 2 tyres!! Bought them from USA for $68 including postage.
10) As my daughter lives so far out, she often asks me to look for a certain item of clothing. Eg - she recently wanted an outfit for a country wedding. And she can really afford to spend good money!! I often go into shops, with ready cash - yet shop assistants totally ignore me. I can literally see what they are thinking - 'what's an old hag like her doing in our young store?'
The number of times I have walked out of a store - their loss.
I am so tired of shop assistants that have no idea of 'service', and absolutely no knowledge of the products.
Have given up - and dread - shopping with local retailers. Far too much trouble and problems!! Pushes me to shop on Web Totally disnterested sales assistants
