Harman Kardon HD970

Throwaway garbage! – Exactly this! Initially it stopped reading two out of five CDs, then its software went completely nuts and ended doing nothing than endless read loops and tray open/close. First time that occurred to me with any brand of CD deck. A pitty because sound quality was value for money.
If you can't live without it, it's not the case for him – After the taste of high end reader, for one day, week, month, or year, it décides to fail and end his life without you. There is a major issue of conception. First few CDs does not work. At the end noting work. I have not identified what is wrong at this time. I only see that the tracking of the lens is wrong and one component heat to much. If… Read more
you Switch off, you can use it again for few minutes.
Common failure for this unit. No support from Harman Kardon.
Passe you way from this brand. It's a pity for so good sound quality to have so bad manufacturing and support.
Great product but first prize for worst service ever! – This review probably relates less to the product concerned and more to the service you can expect from Harman Kardon when your product breaks down. The HD970, in itself, is a good product and I had little or no problem with it...until it stopped working. The unit ran really well up to that time. It ran silently other than the odd woosh as it… Read more
clicked into gear. The playback quality is outstanding but you would expect that from such a name brand and when you paid a premium for it.
Unlike a couple of other reviewers, I liked the exterior finish. Its not high-tech or flashy but it did match up nicely with my other equipment, also Harman Kardon. It is a slimline unit and has a very small footprint which is always helpful when you're trying to shoe-horn amps, speakers, tvs, cd players, freeview boxes and blue rays into your entertainment centre. It was simple to wire up using the RCA leads but there are other options to run into your amp and tv. That flexibility is really helpful when you're figuring out what should plug into what.
My positive review ends there.........once the unit stopped working everything went to hell. I took the cd player straight back to the retailer (who shall remain nameless). They returned it to Harman Kardon for a warranty repair (only 3 months old) and were advised Harman Kardon are no longer willing to repair this model!!!!!!! Nothing would make them look at it. Nothing would make them fix it. Nothing would make them do a dam thing to back up their brand. They wouldn't return my calls and the retailer seemed non-plussed about it as well. I was given a lower quality player as a replacement and left with no comebakcs by HK or the retailer. I don't blame the retailer, I blame HK. Their service sucks, their customer support doesn't exist. They are rude, arrogant and impossible to deal with and I would never buy an HK product again purely because of this. Its a pity when they have so many good products. I can't recommend the player as it died after 3 months. I can't recommend Harmon Kardan as a brand because you're on your own when it breaks. Really disappointing. For a brief time the player was adequate. The worst service I've ever seen. Refusal to repair or replace faulty product. Sheer arrogance of their customer service.
