Holman 2 Dial Tap Timer CO1601

I have purchased 3 of these. Each one has failed to reliably work for more than 6months. In that time I had to replace the 9volt battery every 3 months or less. They are so unreliable as to not allow one to go on holidays in hot weather and rely on their working. I did go once any came home to a dead or dying garden. They are really not fit for… Read more
purpose. In addition to the battery problem they leak, are difficult to set up, in that trying to remember the sequence every time you replace the battery is not worth the trouble. I have one hour ago disconnected the last one as it stopped some weeks ago and my partner prefers to water manually to avoid asking me to fix it.
Hopeless – Terrible product. Just doesn't work. You program the start times and it just doesn't come on. Programmed on/off times seem to be disrupted if you have used manual mode. Amazed it is still being sold.
Faulty Junk – Terrible Quality- Won’t Bother with Holman again - too risky I have had at least 10 different units over recent years Issues with every one of them within 2-3 years =throwaway - stops working - failed internal mechanism - battery connection wire feeble/breaks - split timer casing on one unit (while I was away overseas!) Causing flooding -… Read more
split casing ALSO happened to their 1-4 tap outlet plastic casings on 3 different units over recent years Luckily the neighbours notified me when their property became flooded (eventually)
A complete DUD – I spent around 2 hours setting this timer up and trying a number of things, but it still didn't work. Do not buy one of these, I wonder why this is still being sold at Bunnings.
Bought three None work – Installed all three units.14 Jan 2021. Worked on manual. Would not switch on on nay other setting. Holman no assistance but directed me to paid 'technical expert' who charged $5 to give me an answer. Expert was no help after 5 minutes. Returning to Bunnings who by law must refund or replace even if you don't have the docket,
Leaking Unit – The unit does not completely switch off. A small dribble still comes through though over time this would be considerable water loss. Acquire at Bunnings - consider Bunnings should not stock this product as there reputation is also be being harmed.
Does not work at all – I bought it this morning from Bunnings. New battery. Followed instructions several times to a T. Does not work. Will return tomorrow and buy the Aqua brand I had 3 years ago that actually worked. Waste of time. With all these bad reviews I don’t know why it’s still on the market.
Latest model seems to have a fault – Sometimes the water doesn't turn off! The manual cycle, during program mode, doesn't work. Should be withdrawn from sale. Previously had one for several years, but the last 2 have been faulty.
Faulty – Tap timers have a flaw and they occasionally don't switch off. Holman are terrible to deal with and acknowledged the timers were faulty by replacing them but then denied they were faulty and refused to compensate me for the massive water usage fee I incurred.
Faulty junk – A terrible product turns itself on and won't turn back off. This timer has wasted a ton of water! Going to be returning the product and try a different brand!
Faulty product, bad service – 2nd faulty replacement. Timer works but in the next run won't turn off. Waiting 2 weeks but Holman hasn't replied. Customer service seems to be quite poor and I'm wasting water each day.
Would be great if it worked – I originally bought two of these 9V, solenoid actuated timers (Bunnings - Dubbo) which did not work and returned them for a refund. I then bought another which I have not opened as yet but it looks like I have lost the purchase docket, so I will have a $42.79c ornament. Last week, I bought another in Singleton (Bunnings) because I assumed that… Read more
as they are still for sale, that they must have fixed the design fault - wrong - very little water flow and refunded at Bunnings, Dubbo. The problem is that they do not let water flow when in the "ON" position. Emails to Holman always go unanswered. It may be that they work in a laboratory under very high water pressure, where the water fully opens the solenoid valve but this is not explained on the package. Holman also have a two dial "Low Pressure" tap timer that works on a revolving ball which are good but apparently no longer available at Bunnings. They only sell the ones that do not work.
Total waste of money – Bought this from Bunnings. It was the cheapest of all the automatic ones available. I can see why. Impossible to program with hopeless instruction manual. If you want, say, a 3 day cycle, you have to wait 3 days to see if it worked, but, in general, it never did. Just nothing. I got fed up trying and failing, and having to wait another 3 days to… Read more
see if the latest changes had worked - and yet again the watering wasn't done. Sadly I lost my receipt, so it's straight to the bin.
Very poor water flow – I own about 15+ two dial tap timers that are powered by two AAA batteries, so I have some expertise in using them. Generally, they are "Gardenmate" branded. Recently, I saw a new "Holman" tap timer and noted that it was the same size as my other timers, so that the Holman can be a direct swap without having to change fittings etc. I noted and… Read more
was excited that it had a water proof cover and was almost totally water proof except for one small hole (possibly to allow battery fumes to dissipate). I also later noted that it used one of those square 9 volt batteries, so hopefully should need the batteries replacing less often. I also noted that instead of a rotating valve to turn it "on" and "off", I could hear a distinct "click" when it came on suggesting it had a solenoid (a magnetic switch) water valve.
This is potentially a far better design than the old style where you can hear gears grinding themselves to death and often fail prematurely.
Unfortunately, very little water can flow past the solenoid valve and this product with great potential has been a huge disappointment.
I contacted Holman and was very unimpressed with their response.
I would suggest only buying one of the CO1601 at a time and be sure to keep the purchase docket so that you can get a refund if you are not satisfied. I have tried three and none of them was anywhere near as good as the previous design.
Very average product. Poor customer service from Holman! – Purchased Holman CO1801 tap timers (from the big green shed). While they performed fine, one failed after 6 months and was replaced under warranty by the retailer. The second one failed after 12 months. and wasn't replaced. The replacement for the original one failed after 9 months. In short, I had three fail within 15 months. Holman while they… Read more
answered my email, weren't interested as evidently this model was already discontinued when I purchased them.
I think Holman should re-read Australian Consumer Law. I questioned their response politely, but never received a response!
It obviously was a bad product or I just had some bad luck, either way Holman should have responded more professionally.
Not worth pursuing for two $40 tap timers!
