Honda XR400M

XR400SM - nearly very good – Honda made a street bike out of the XR400 dirt bike by adding 17" spoked wheels & new tank plastics. They retained the dirt bike seat, the 9.5 litre tank, & dirt bike speedo. I bought it for metro riding & occasional trips. The tank was too small for trips so I fitted a 22 litre tank. I added an Acewell speedo since you can now be booked for 2 kmh over the limit & the original speedo lacked sufficient resolution, & also a Whipps alloy luggage rack & a Staintune pipe. Despite several serious attempts to improve the seat comfort I was not successful. On the last Tassie trip of 5 days the seat nearly cut me in two. On short trips(1-2 days) & ripping around town it was OK.

Seat discomfort aside, I loved riding this bike. It's light weight & 30 bhp made it a joy at the 'grands prix de traffic lights' & also riding the Great Ocean Road, Black Spur, & even going shopping. I've considered buying another one from time to time.

XR400 m/Motard – It is a good clean running bike, but is under powered. Smooth on road and off road, good bike for someone wanting a cross over bike. If you upgrade the carb to a Mikuni, remove the smog pump, replace the airfilter and open up the box and also replace the heavy restrictive muffler then you can get the power up a bit. Also it is geared too high for much trail riding and next to no one has aftermarket parts for it because it is only sold in Japan at this time (that I am aware of). I have a 2007 XR400m and I really like it.

Excellent – Excellent member of the XR FAMILY! I really like its look. It fits my lifestyle. Just that.. it's not locally available in the Philippines. I really like its look. It fits my lifestyle.
