Hough covid-19 Home Test – UV torch didnt work (integral to reading the results). It seems that the purchase today from Coles was out of date - the integrity of this product needs to be examined. Show details

If I could give zero stars I would – I have bought a pack of five tests for the second time, and not a single one has shown a red line anywhere at all. These tests are worse than useless because I have wasted a lot of money on them and they don't work. I can't believe Coles are still selling these! Please don't waste your money. Show details

If you do the test correctly.. they do work – The swab needs to touch that spot at the back of your nose they makes you want to sneeze, go slow and find that spot, turn 5 times and do the same with the other nostril. 3 drops into the cartridge and use the uv torch, never had one fail on me.. Show details

Buyer beware! – I agree with the previous reviewer. We purchased a 5 test kit from Coles on the 2nd of Jan, took it home holding it like a winning lotto ticket and we followed the simple instructions to the letter. It includes a uv torch to view the results. Cool way to add theatre. (If only the tests worked) Wife did first test which showed one fluorescent… Read more

line right in the middle (not next to T and not next to C either). The rest 4 tests showed no lines at all! It is unacceptable to waste $50 on such a vital product and not get any results. Totally useless.

And it is even more alarming that the major supermarket chains carry this brand only. Obviously a cheap import with high margins for retailers profiting on people's desperation. Thanks for nothing!

Absolute rabish and wasted money – I bought 3 packs (2 each pack) from local petrol station. 6 altogether. Read the lengthy instructions and followed step by step. 1 pack (2 of them) worked perfectly, no issues. Second pack - one out of 2 tests have empty extraction buffer (liquid to do the test, so no liquid, no test. Second test were invalid, just not showing anything, no lines.… Read more

It took few hours for red line to appear next to test, c line - nothing, so irrespectively, invalid. Third pack - same story, both tests does not show anything for few hours even all instructions were followed. I have to wait from morning to late afternoon as a curiosity for test line to appear, invalid results.

unacceptable as they are so hard to get, so expensive and such a waste of money! I paid $30 for pack of 2. I am not sure if it is poor quality or the owner of the local petrol station was not following the instruction for storing and handling the product.

Anyways no excuses for profiting on extremely poor quality. Just spreading the word and awaiting feedback from others as if no one say anything they will never improve the quality.

One false positive and always negative – Early on it once displayed a very faint positive line for my 3 year old, PCR was negative but we were still forced to isolate by daycare so it cost us a whole lot of money paying for daycare but not being able to attend for nothing. It was the mildest cold my child has ever had too. After that it has never shown a positive result even when my child finally contracted COVID many months later. Most useless test ever. Show details

False Negative x3 – I tested myself on day one and day three of symptoms and both were negative. On day four I took a PCR test and on day five informed positive. I then did another Hough RAT and it was again negative. Waste of time and money on this brand. Unreliable. I have now passed it on to my 89yr old Mum :( Show details

Inaccurate testing – My partner and I got these to test as we weren't feeling 100%. 1 test failed, 3 tests showed negative and the final one came back positive. We both figured we would do 2 just to be sure. As there was then a positive one we got another brand and they instantly came back positive, way more accurate. Show details

FAKE PRODUCT DESIGNED TO TROLL USER – DO NOT BUY from these con artists. Designed with multiple gotchas to make you think you've made a mistake, but they are simply fake. The game goes like this: (1) a UV flashlight with: a toggle switch you can't tell is on or off or if you should hold it; a battery you can't tell is wrapped; one-way screw-off parts that happily go back on wrong way;… Read more

blacklight not visible to humans so don't know if it works; (2) no result on test cassette after EVERY POSSIBLE fix to above. THEFT.

Torch did not work. Can’t see results – I have no idea whether the test produced a result as the supplied UV torch was faulty. Yes I took the plastic off the battery and swapped it out with 3 others Show details

Why does TGA allow this to be sold? – I have used other brands, no problems. I do read and follow instructions. I purchased a pack of 5 of these from Coles for $40 as I thought the major supermarkets would sell quality. Wrong. The first two tests were invalid, no control mark, not even the faintest line. I then Googled and found the supplier had been fined repeatedly and there is… Read more

doubt the product is effective to test for Omicron. In addition there are numerous complaints of invalid test results like mine (which the company blames on the user). The TGA should force a recall rather than issuing a fine which will possibly never be paid if the company goes into liquidation to avoid a fight with their big customers, Coles and Woolworths etc.

Waste of time and money – I had a cough and a sniffle so I used this test on Monday night and it reported a NEGATIVE result... not satisfied with the result I went to my local testing centre the next day, and it came back with a POSITIVE covid result. If I had accepted this product's negative result I could've been out in the community and spreading the virus to my family, friends, and work colleagues..! Show details

Faulty product all tests produced invalid result – Have so far used 4 of the 5 tests and all produced invalid results with no control line showing under the UV light. I've used a different brand in between and they worked fine so it's not my technique that's the problem. This is a completely faulty product that should be taken off shelves. Show details

Terrible test and customer service – Purchased a pack of 5 tests this morning for $50 after learning that I was a close contact due to my role with an emergency service. Not one but two tests were invalid. No control line, no test result at all. Contacted Hough who then proceeded to send a series of text messages advising me that they would send me replacements. Since I had already… Read more

been forced to purchase another brand and since I could NOT trust that the remaining tests OR the replacements would be effective I declined stating that I would prefer a refund. Hough then texted their view that I had obviously administered the test incorrectly which offended me as a senior nurse. My concern is that is for other people using this product who cannot afford to WASTE their precious money particularly in the current climate and honestly, their customer service is as unimpressive and ineffective as their product. AVOID

Unusable – Comforting to read other reviews. My partner exhibited symptoms, so I opened a $30 2-pack Hough Covid-19 home test from Coles. UV torch would not work. No instructions for torch. No indication of battery + and - ends. Tried both ways. Tried both ways again with different battery. No success. Maddening! Finally JusChek revealed the positive result. Just don't touch Hough, it's rubbish. Show details

Absolute rubbish – Purchased a pack of 5 from COLES The pack contained. 2 swabs 10 testing vials 5 solution vials 1 torch and 1 battery. 2 test were inclusive - no lines. Not enough swabs to try again. torch didn't work. Took kit back to COLES. They wouldn't exchange or refund and directed me to HOUGH. Lets see if they respond. Looking at these reviews I have to… Read more

question why the big supermarkets continue to sell this product when they are well aware that many may be faulty. And they don't automatically exchange or refund.

These don’t work – I have now tried three of these(from a pack of five). Although I carefully followed the instructions each time none of them have given me a valid result. I am glad I found all these negative reviews, at least now I know it isn’t just me. Show details

Poor quality – I’ve bought a pack of 5 for $60 at Coles Express. Even without exposing the cassete to UV light (using the flashlight after 15 min and also covering with my hand to avoid the day light during the waiting period) I had to use 3 tests until I got (I hope) a negative result. I’ll never buy it again. Show details

Don't buy!! – Bought pack of 5 for $50 from Woolworths January 2022. First test worked fine (negative). Second test didn't work (no lines came up), even though I was certain I'd followed the instructions carefully. Tried a third test - definitely paying attention to every detail - and it failed also!!! Going to try a fourth to see how it goes.I'm only glad I saw these other reviews so I know it isn't just me! Very cross indeed. Show details

Most didn’t work – So far only 2 out of 7 tests have worked/ come up with a control line. Used other brands and every test worked. Followed inscriptions to the letter. I would only get these if there was no choice. Can’t get through to hough on there 24/7 line to discuss either. Show details
