Hy-Clor Granular Pool Chlorine
1 review
This product works just fine but you need to understand what it is – I am writing this as there appear to be a lot of negative comments on this type of product. So, I can fill in a couple of blanks. Chlorine is almost always used to disinfect the pool. There are a few ways of adding this chlorine. Using a dedicated chlorinator or just adding chemicals. The Hy-Clor product is Calcium Hypochlorite. In essence, chlorine bound in calcium hydroxide. It is cheap, it's major attraction. The other options for powder (or granular) products are much more expensive and based on another chemical product. When calcium hypochlorite is thrown into the pool, the chlorine is released (slowly) and calcium hydroxide remains. That can be seen as a cloud or haze in the pool which upsets plenty of owners. It settles on the bottom and just kind of rests there. Calcium hydroxide is not very soluble in water and so you need to help it along by keeping the pH low and brushing the bottom. The cloud will disappear.
