Wood quality is questionable – Birchwood is suppose to be a hardwood. But this desk gets indented easily. It is so soft I can even leave an imprint by pressing from my fingernails. I have a cheap cot from IKEA which is made from a wood much harder than this table (it is discontinued and I don't see a comparable cot in IKEA online now). I am using it as a computer table and even the computer casing has left indentations.

Apart from that the surface is smooth and feels nice on skin. Assembly wasn't as difficult as usually over engineered ikea products.
