Works perfectly and easy to install – I set this up across my garage opening so that when the car drives in a light comes on and goes off once the car is in far enough to close the door. This is a foolproof method to make sure the car goes in far enough to allow the door to close without taking the car too far in. I used 12V power to operate a LED wired through this unit's Normally… Read more

Open connector; thus the light is normally off but comes on when the beam is broken. I positioned the light so that it is easily seen from the driver's position. The LA-5179 is very good quality, spans up to 15 metres and is very easy to install and set up. I would strongly recommend it for this or any other application.

Happy with it so far Nov 11-2017 – Bought this unit from my local Jaycar authorized stockist to use with the Techview QV-3156 Security camera system. I use the beam sensor to trigger perimeter and no go breaches. I did however have to incorporate a timer into the trigger circuit to hold the beam breach signal for 1 second minimum as I found a quick pass through the beam was… Read more

insufficient time for the DVR alarm detect to acknowledge a breach. Works well now. I have since bough many more beam sensors and they are all connected parallel via the one trigger timer. See my review on the camera system QV-3156 and Extension speaker / Alarm LA-5188 12-01-17 The units are to good now. I was getting false alarms from birds and moths breaking the beams. Problem solved though. It has cost me more units but worth it. The beam units are mounted about 300 mm apart, vertically and are wired in series as I am operating a normally open alarm trigger on these sensors. What this does is, both beams must now be broken together before an alarm will trigger. This allows a bird or moth etc to pass through one beam without triggering an alarm. The units also have an inbuilt tamper switch which operates on a normally closed circuit. This Circuit allows you to connect to a normally closed configuration on the camera and alarm system (QV-3156) so even if the sensor cover is removed or the wires to the sensor are cut an alarm is triggered. If you don,t have a battery backup and or want more safe guards for the system you can purchase what is known as a utilities lock for you power box, as long as it is enclosed type, that is. 17-03-17 Update. All still working ok Nov 11, 2017. All working ok. December 2023. All still working OK, No failures
