Kaboodle Kitchen Cabinet

Poor quality and a little difficult to fit - avoid if you are a first timer to DIY cabinets – Wanted to tidy up my bedroom so decided to replace my bedside table and a open bookshelf with some Kaboodle living room cabinets as it would give me more storage space. Bought a 500mm x 500mm square cabinet and a 1000mm x 500mm cabinet + doors. Fitting everything together and the end product was overall a disappointing experience and I wish I… Read more
had other options in the same price range.
Price wise the cabinets are cheap compared to readymade of other brand items available.
The cabinet panels though made of particle board are of decent quality.
The 1000mm x 500mm cabinet has a dividing shelf which is nice and thick and should not bow due to putting files or books on it. (which happened to my previous bookshelf from the Reject shop)
Quality of the finish on the cabinets is however very poor and overall finish is bad.
It looks like they use the bare minimum thickness material for the finish. The material flakes and scratches very easily and looks dull. I am afraid to remove the final plastic sheet that cover the gloss doors for fear of scratching the surface even while wiping to clean.
Fitting all the pieces was not an easy task. The fitting instructions could be more detailed. The instructions was not clear whether the back panel should have the cams facing inward or outward. I decided to do it facing inward otherwise it would have been difficult to tighten - fortunately it works either way otherwise it would have been a lot of extra work. The factory pre-drilled screw holes are not aligned properly and I now have a slightly skewed panel on one side. Even the door can't be aligned perfectly and there is a slight gap at the top of the cabinet door whereas the bottom fits flush.
I bought adjustable feet for the cabinets but there is no easy way to fit these and therefore decided against it. I also bought the screws/parts required to join the cabinets so that they are flush side by side - but since I can't fit the legs I can't make the cabinets perfectly level and this is preventing me putting them flush together.
Initially I was in a hurry and so bought a door panel for the 500mm x 500mm square cabinet. At that time I had looked at the drawer that was available and in the pictures it fitted totally inside the cabinet. I thus wrongly assumed that I could use the drawer and the door on the same cabinet. Later I installed one drawer and unfortunately the door blocks the drawer from being drawn. I now have to either forget about the drawer or replace the door with a drawer front panel. In Bunnings or Kaboodle website I couldn't find just a shelf for the cabinet so will have to use a wooden plank instead.
Knowing what I know now, I should have spent some more money and bought something of better quality.
