I used Kingi for a good number sharpening jobs on both my chainsaws and I can’t speak highly enough of his work. Dropped in at Dural and had no issue with the man or his work. Hope he sets up shop again soon.

So Kingi is basically the only master sharpener in the Hills District. From what I gather when listening to him, he spent perhaps 4 years in a faraway place like Switzerland learning about the properties of metals, how they respond to heat and friction, and therefore, how to best sharpen them. Then he purchased very slow-moving wet sharpening… Read more

stone machines that optimise these properties to provide specific sharpening angles, speeds, and times specific to the knife, blade or flail you want sharpened. Apparently the machines are upwards of $100,000 each and a flail can spend a couple of hours occupying time on of these machines, hence a sharpening fee of, say, $130 per pair. But when they are done, he wraps them in cardboard because, even though they are very large and heavy pieces of metal, you can shave the hair off the back of your arm with them. And once mounted back into the chipper, they turn branches into wood chips you'd pay for. If you don't have an understanding of this whole process, and you ask him to match Mr Minit's price, stand back and wait for language that would make a sailor blush. Equally, don't say things like "Would you like me to show you how my mother sharpens her knife?" or "Do you need me to help?" or "Can I pay by credit card?" or "This costs how much?" or "The guy down the road only charges me $30." And if you pay late, forget to pick up your goods, want to haggle, or you come from a culture that enjoys a bit of retail to and fro, he can be a bit old school and tell the remaining customers that you don't appreciate his craftsmanship after you've gone, albeit with a few colourful words peppered in-between. This isn't racism, this is stereotyping. Additionally, if you return the following day with the same skin colour but this time express high appreciation for his craft, don't haggle and pay promptly, he is very welcoming, kind and attentive. And your knives or flails will be the sharpest in Sydney. Just be kind to people because you don't know what their life is like and where the fountain of their mouth pumps from.
