Adventure Kings Premium 250w Solar Panel with MPPT Regulator Questions & Answers
VerifiedI have a Kings 250w solar panel about 3 years old. I'm upgrading my camping battery to Lithium. Can I get a solar controller suitable for Li batteries to replace the original?
Hi Ron, You sure can! Our new premium MPPT regulator is suitable with lithium. Regards, Courtney
Hello I have connected up the MPPT as per spec. The Solar light is solid green, load solid green, temp nil, the battery lights - only 1 light ever comes on, other 2 never go on. Going by your manual - Solar panel voltage is higher than the light control voltage. Can someone please explain this.
Does anyone know what it means when all lights are flashing on the 20amp mppt solar controller. Fridge is still running and the system has been running perfectly up until now
I purchased a Kings 250w solar panel and Anderson style plug extension lead to suit. The extension lead is rated @ 6m @ 2.5mm/sq. After thinking about this I realized that this lead cannot handle the current you are selling it for. Here's why: 250w @ 12vdc is 20.83 amps max. Your 6m lead being only 2.5mm/sq can only sustain that current (20.83a) at a length of only around 1.5 meters long, not 6m. (The Anderson connectors can handle 50a though) To continuously handle 250w (20.83a) @ 12vdc you would need around a 10mm/sq (7 AWG) cable. This product is at https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/solar-extension-lead-6-metre.html Has anyone actually thought of this and its a looming liability for you?
Hi matt - from my experience (and not withstanding im an elec engineer) wont be an issue as the panels i had never put out the rated current. In any case if they did with a short undersized cable the losses and heat would still wear it. Eg look at internal cross section of circuit board conductor thats sits in pwn cibtroller. Those tables you refer to are for longer conductor runs.
this might seem silly, but does the three red lights on the controller mean the battery is flat?
Hi there, The red lights are the battery, each one represents the state of charge so 3 lights on would indicate fully charged. Steady ON is -Normal battery function OFF - Battery is not connected Rapid Flashing - Battery over discharged Your item should have included a user manual, if you did not receive one here is the digital one from our website - https://marketing.4wdsupacentre.com.au/manuals/200731%20AKSR-MPPT_20A_01%20User%20Manual%20Final%20V1.4.pdf Regards, Mia
Hi there,I have purchased the Kings 200w solar blanket with MPPT controller. Can you tell me how the red lights work?Is all lights on charged or other way around.Iplugged in a fully charged battery and had one flashing red light.Another charged battery had all red lights on.
Hi Wayne Here is the manual - https://marketing.4wdsupacentre.com.au/%20manuals/200716%20AKSR-MPPT_20A_01%20User%20Manual%20Final%20V1.3.pdf Page 3 highlights all of the lights and what they mean. Cheers, Mia
Your manual dosnt say anything about the 3 lights !
Hi there, If all lights are on and solid this means that the battery is fully charged. If there is one flashing light on that means it's charging 1-33%. 2 flashing lights on means it's charging and has 33-66% battery. If there are 3 flashing lights it is over 66%, but not fully charged or trickle charging. Hope this helps. Cheers, Courtney
We have the 160W Panel and the green LED is rapidly flashing, is this normal? It is an overcast day too so not sure if that makes a difference. Thanks
Hi Courtney, Do you have the blue or black MPPT? Regards, Mia
I have the same problem as Tmn. Is it still charging when it is not slowly flashing? Do we leave connected and not worry about it? What is the answer?
Hi Leigh, Sorry, I am unsure of what this question means. Is this the MPPT slowly flashing? Can you send me a video of this to social@4wdsupacentre.com.au with a screenshot of your question with some more detail and I can assist further Thanks, Mia
I have only used panel twice. All seems OK and easy to use but I am confused with the lights on the MPPT charger. There were no instructions in the box so found the manual online. The manual says when charging the green solar LED should be slow flashing. On both occasions in full August sun in the middle of the day the green solar LED was solid on. The manual indicates “Solar panel voltage is higher than the light control voltage”. I don’t know what this means. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Is my solar panel and MPPT charger working correctly or malfunctioning or operator error? Help please.
Hi there, The solar panel Voltage into the regulator needs to be over a certain value for it to operate correctly. As per the manual, it is referring to a Value higher than the battery Voltage. If the battery is around 13 Volts, the solar light will illuminate once the solar Voltage into the regulator is over 13 Volts. This particular solar regulator starts working well once the solar Voltage is above 18 Volts. Which is fine, as all our current solar panels will do this in good sunlight. Hope this info clarifies this for you Regards, Mia
Hi Mia, I am also confused with this LED not flashing as the manual says slow flashing = charging. Do you mean it's still charging even the solar voltage is under 18 volts (this not flushing) and we should not be worried? I wonder the regulator only kicks in once the voltage is above 18 volts to protect over-charge and less than 18 volts just sitting there.
Just make it clear, we have Kings 200w solar blanket with MPPT, used several times under full sunlight for all day - LED steady on never flashing...
Hi, I am currently following up with our product team to give you the best answer. Once I have a response, you will be advised. Thankyou for your patience and cooperation. Regards, Talia
No words over 2 months from customer service. Kings provide me replacement product - still LED never flash with good sunlight all day. It seems the product is faulty as King's can't tell how to fix it. I have another solar panel from different maker and it's working fine.
Tmm, same as my Kings MPPT, blue light never flashes, it's always solid. The manual is confusing and Kings have NO information elsewhere re operation and light functions. It's a guessing game IMO, if this MPPT cooks my $400.00 battery I will be seeking compensation from Kings 100% guaranteed. Good luck Tmn
